Clinical Apprentice-MRI Tech-Post Primary Pathway- Part Time

General Description of the Job Class

Under the direct supervision of a certified technologist, perform a variety of specialized tasks involved in the performance of medical imaging exams and procedures. This role supports individuals who have passed their primary ARRT certification and are pursuing post-primary certification.

Duties and Responsibilities of this Level

  • Perform specialized tasks associated with the operation of imaging equipment and related devices in accordance with prescribed safety procedures.
  • Position patients for imaging exams using appropriate positioning devices and protective equipment.
  • Conduct exams accurately per established protocols, policy, and patient safety standards.
  • Assist certified technologists and radiologists with imaging exams procedures, including patient preparationand contrast administration.
  • Evaluate images for technical quality, collate processed images in sequence of exposure, and appropriately label and transmit to the Image Archival System.
  • Schedule patients for exams and procedures; assist with clerical functions.Charge exams, procedures, and supplies in the EHR.
  • Dispense and/or order contrast for imaging exams, if applicable.
  • Maintain accurate patient records.
  • Provide care for the psychological and physical needs of patients and their families during imagingprocedures.
  • Demonstrate proficiency in IV placement for contrast administration, if applicable.
  • Perform other related duties incidental to the work therein.

Required Qualifications at this Level

Education:

Graduate of an ARRT or NMTCB-approved program in radiography, radiation therapy, or nuclear medicine.

Experience:

Level I: Candidates are required to have completed primary ARRT certification and be currently enrolled in an approved structured education program.

Level II- Candidates must be actively enrolled in a structured educational program and have completed at least 750 clinical hours or one-half of the

required competencies or clinical hours required for certification; whichever is greater.

Level III Candidates must be actively enrolled in a structured educational program and have completed at

least 2,000 clinical hours or three-quarters of the required competencies or clinical hours for certification, whichever is greater.

Degrees, Licensure, and/or Certification:

Certification in one of the following required-Radiography (R), Radiation Therapy (T), Nuclear Medicine Technology (N), CNMT. BLS certification required.

Pre-requisite Coursework- Acceptance into an MRI Program.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

Demonstrated ability to perform imaging procedures under supervision, effective communication and organizational skills, and commitment to patient safety and care.

Completion of Nurse Aide course preferred.

General Description of the Job Class

Coordinate and participate in a variety of technical tasks, tests and determinations involving the utilization of radioactive materials and measurement instrumentation.

Duties and Responsibilities of this Level

  • Coordinate and participate in a variety of technical procedures to include in vivo and in vitro studies; operate radiation detection and measurement instrumentation including stationary imaging devices, scintillation gamma and apparatus for in vitro counting.
  • Calibrate and draw up radiopharmaceutical materials for administration to patients; formulate radiopharmaceutical materials from pre-prepared kits. Calibrate instruments and review calibration data to detect trends indicating instrument malfunction. Calculate data to include results of patient studies and radioactive decay.
  • Evaluate recorded images for technical quality.
  • Process computerized image data to include function curves and reconstructed SPECT images.
  • Assume care for physical and psychological needs of patient of all ages during an examination, initiates life support measures for patient, if necessary.
  • Maintain inventory of supplies in assigned area; prepare and maintain records concerning radiopharmaceutical receiving, dispensing and disposal activities. Maintain records of order, including brachytherapy procedures, receipt and disposal of all radioactive material in the department.
  • Provide instruction and technical guidance to radiologic technology students or other advanced imaging techs; assist in training new employees.
  • Monitor Nuclear Medicine Department with portable survey meter for possible contamination.
  • Performs EKG prep, tracing
  • Perform other related duties incidental to the work described herein.

General Description of the Job Class

Apply ionizing radiation to the patient (inclusive of pediatric, adult, and geriatric populations) in accordance with the prescription and instructions of the Radiation Oncologist and under the general supervision of the Chief Therapist.

Duties and Responsibilities of this Level

  • Deliver accurately the prescribed planned course of radiation therapy with minimal supervision.
  • Check prescription, diagnosis, chart and patient identification.
  • Explain procedure to patient, means of communication during treatment and procedure to follow if emergency arises during treatment. *Reinforce Radiation Oncologist's advice to patient regarding reactions to treatment and their care.

The opportunity includes a partnership option based on schedule .

Opportunity Highlights Overnight needs for 10PM-7AM reading for several premiere hospital systems in the DFW area.

7 nightson 14 nightsoff 14 nights on 14 nights off 7 nights on 7 nights off Never solo and typically 10 plus Radiologist signed on nightly.
