Neuro Step-Down (1 th Floor
The Neuro Step-Down Unit at Barnes Jewish Hospital is a specialized care area designed to provide intermediate-level care to patients with neurological conditions who require close monitoring but are stable enough to transition from the Intensive Care Unit (ICU). This unit caters to patients recovering from strokes, brain injuries, neurosurgical procedures, seizures, and other complex neurological conditions. Nurses in the Neuro Step-Down Unit are trained in advanced neurological assessments, monitoring of neuro-specific symptoms, and the use of specialized equipment, such as intracranial pressure monitors and continuous EEG. With a focus on early rehabilitation and recovery, the nursing staff works closely with a multidisciplinary team, including neurologists, neurosurgeons, physical therapists, and speech therapists, to provide comprehensive care that supports patients in regaining function and transitioning to less intensive care settings.

Role Purpose
Assess, monitor, initiate, and modify medication use according to patient condition and age specific criteria. Serves as a liaison between the pharmacy department and other health care practitioners in matters related to specialized area of pharmacy practice. Supervises and directs supportive personnel.
