Annual Base Salary for newly appointed CBPOs varies as follows:
GS-9: $61,111 - $124,443 per year

Note: A fully trained CBPO is eligible for up to $45,000 in overtime pay in addition to the starting salary.

Officers are eligible to select from an array of federal employment benefits that include health, dental and other insurance plans, generous annual and sick leave, and participation in the Thrift Savings Plan.

LOCATION INCENTIVES: If you accept one of the duty locations listed below, you may be eligible to receive an additional 15%-25% of your salary each year for the first three (3) years of employment in addition to any overtime pay. Some locations may offer 25% for four (4) years.

Qualifications:

You qualify for the GS-9 grade level in one of the following ways: experience, education, or a combination of both.

Experience: A minimum of one (1) year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade level that includes:

  • Detaining suspected violators of federal, state, or local laws and/or arresting violators using the proper law enforcement methods.
  • Enforcing laws and regulations relating to importing, exporting, and/or international shipping.
  • Utilizing intelligence techniques and behavior analysis to identify potential threats.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities • Documentation of the Development Lifecycle o Analysis o Design o Development o Implementation o Evaluation o Maintenance • Produce high‑quality documentation for AI/ML systems, including API references, model usage guides, SDK documentation, architecture overviews, and integration tutorials • Designing and developing technical documentation for software and non-software systems • Create diagrams, flowcharts, and conceptual visuals to explain model architecture, data flows, and system interactions • Building interactive eLearning courses and storylines • Using eLearning software and authoring tools (e.g., Adobe Captivate, Advanced PowerPoint, Articulate, etc.) • Defining objectives and curriculum outlines • Document AI lifecycle processes such as data preparation, feature engineering, model training, evaluation, deployment, monitoring, and retraining • Developing technical documentation for technical writing for technical and non-technical users.

• Reviewing pertinent documentation (e.g., user stories, requirements, specifications, etc.) concerning the subject and topics to be documented • Analyzing documented requirements, developing supporting documentation and eliciting feedback from the subject matter experts, and the target audience from which the documentation is written (Developing specifications) • Analyzing and interpreting specifications from which technical documentation will be written • Developing technical procedures to support operational processing activities.

• Create or modify plans and procedures to create technical documentation, taking into consideration the requirements, intended use of the system, facility constraints and equipment, and need to involve system users.

• Developing and modifying procedural manuals.

Required (Minimum Necessary) Qualifications • Excellent written communication skills with the ability to simplify complex technical topics • Proficiency in MS product to include, but not limited to, MS Office, MS Project, and MS Visio • Strong understanding of machine learning fundamentals, including model types, training workflows, evaluation metrics, and deployment patterns • Ability to organize and facilitate planning and demonstrations • Able to write in explanatory and procedural styles for multiple audiences • Skilled at prioritization and multi-tasking Knowledge, Skills, Abilities, and Other Characteristics • Author, Plan, develop, organize, write, and edit complex IT network surveys, migration, design and implementation procedures, plans, and manuals • Research, develop and document technical design specifications and test scripts • Produce electronic documentation in addition to hard copies • Maintain a comprehensive library of technical terminology and documentation • Analyze documents to maintain continuity of style of content • Manage updates and revisions to technical literature • Maintain schedules of multiple deployed networking teams • Manage suspense system for all deliverables and ancillary documentation needs • Interview and collaborate with stakeholders to capture, develop, and write technical documentation, migration/integration/implementation plans, flowcharts, processes, technical orders, SOPs, and more ensuring accuracy, readability, and ease of use • Develop and write standardized technical tactics, techniques, and procedures • Establish standards and document review checklists • Understanding of project task-linked dependencies Preferred • N/A Supervisory Responsibilities • This position will not have supervisory responsibilities.
