As a Color Formulator, you will identify the pigmentation of automotive-grade color standards and match them across different refinish paint systems. You will manage a high-volume lab workload, maintain efficient processes, and ensure understanding of paint technologies to deliver color perception across product lines. You will expand your knowledge of color theory, formulation, pigmentations, and application techniques while sharing expertise with peers and supporting overall lab goals.

This is a 2nd shift position (2pm-10:30pm) with 1st shift training the first 6+ months.

• Apply color theory, spectrophotometers, electronic microscopes, color software, and refinish paint technologies to identify pigmentation issues and match automotive color standards.
• Manage multiple paint lines and laboratory workflow to ensure efficient throughput in a high-volume environment.
• React quickly to shifting priorities and complexities while maintaining productivity goals using processes such as Kanban.
• Align different refinish paint systems in color space relative to OE standards and other PPG/Nexa product lines to ensure transparent and consistent color perception.
• Deepen knowledge in color theory, formulation, pigmentations, application techniques, and new paint technologies.
• Develop understanding of business and customer needs as they relate to the color function.
• Share expertise and help grow other formulators and color formulation interns.
• Potentially supervise production color lab activities and personnel.
• Support achievement of 5090 approvals per month and maintain color matching productivity of.35.40, with an expectation of 80%+ color approvals.

• 1+ years of experience in color matching within paint technologies (Refinish experience preferred).
• Perceive color properties and logically adjust formulations to achieve accurate matches.

The salary range for this position is $60,000-$70,000.

• Perform delicate weld operations on very expensive components and assemblies and other difficult details. May necessitate the adaptation of available fixtures.
• Work from specific approved procedures and complex blueprints. Work in close cooperation with weld engineer, weld inspector, and other authorized personnel.
• Reads and strictly complies with weld blueprints, weld procedures, and work instructions.
• Grinding to remove slag inclusions, excessive weld, burrs, or other pre-post steps required to make an acceptable weld.
• Must become certified to all requirements of BWXT contracts pertaining to welding and/or brazing, imposed on BWXT both now and in the future.
• Inspect all work using appropriate measurement instruments.
• Refers all issues/problems to supervisor for disposition.
• Completes and maintains all documentation as directed by work instructions and policies.
• Cleans machine, tooling, and parts.
• Performs machine maintenance, housekeeping, and other duties as assigned by supervision.
• Follows and complies with all operation instructions, work rules, and safety policies.

• High school diploma or its equivalent is required.

• Minimum of two (2) years of experience in manual and automatic gas tungsten arc and/or shield arc welding, completion of an accredited training program will be considered.
• Brazing and soldiering skills, preferred.
• If necessary, be able to demonstrate ability to perform above skills on a test piece.
• Ability to read and interpret complex blueprints, procedures, and work instructions.
• Possess skills necessary to maintain accurate documentation.
• Ability to obtain and maintain all applicable written and operation examinations.

This role partners closely with engineering, quality, and production teams to improve manufacturing processes, support production, and drive continuous improvement across the operation.

Key Responsibilities

• Develop, document, and optimize manufacturing processes for precision optical lens fabrication and assembly

• Develop and maintain metrology processes used to measure optical lens assemblies in production

• Partner with optical design engineers to ensure designs are manufacturable at scale

• Collaborate with cross functional teams to support quality and long term product reliability

• Lead manufacturing improvements including sourcing equipment and establishing new processes

Minimum Requirements
