As the Production Supervisor, you will lead and direct the operational activities of a production team on a 12 hr shift, 24 hr/day, 7 day per week, rotating operating schedule. You will be responsible for creating a safe and positive work environment, ensuring compliance with all internal and external guidelines for product quality, employee safety, environmental compliance, and process equipment optimization. You will also implement standards, procedures, and policies to support the continuous improvement of product quality and process efficiency in order to meet manufacturing goals and objectives.

Primary area of Influence includes but not limited to:

  • Tons Produced and Operating Efficiency.
  • Quality and Customer complaints for all Products Produced.
  • Safety of Operating Equipment and Personnel.
  • Environmental monitoring.


KEY TASKS AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Serve a leader and role model with respect to Safety.
  • Maintain a safe and healthy working environment according to Mining Safety and Health Administration (MSHA) and EPA regulations.
  • Monitor Quality Control process as it applies to the direct manufacture and packaging of diatomaceous earth.
  • Accurate computerized data entry including production reports, time entry and quality control management.
  • Direct the work of Laborers, Operators, Maintenance.
  • Provide training and support to all Operators.
  • Monitor all equipment operating parameters to ensure that all Productivity, and Quality parameters are being met (i.e.… tons produced, reject quantities, and quality parameters).
  • Prepare and lead daily Safety meeting discussions with the crew at the start of shift.
  • Prepare and complete lab sample analysis.
  • Must complete workplace inspections for the assigned area of responsibility and direct the employees to do the same.
  • Direct the timely correction of items reported on all workplace inspections submitted by the work team.
  • Immediate communication of any and all accidents, incidents, near misses, and significant safety concerns which occur in the assigned area of responsibility.
  • Ensure that all employees in the assigned area of responsibility are fully trained and are following safe work practices.
  • Observe and address unsafe behaviour of all employees and contractors in the assigned areas of responsibility in a timely manner.
  • Responsible for ensuring that the production plan is followed and production rates are maintained.
  • Prioritize work for direct reports, and follow packaging priorities.
  • Document and report shift performance in all functional areas of assigned areas of responsibility on a timely basis.
  • Ensure that interruptions to production are quickly and efficiently overcome in order to maintain productivity as per Plant Goals.
  • Efficiently utilize the available resources to maintain targeted productivity.
  • Identify and resolve roadblocks to productivity in a timely manner.
  • Respond in a timely manner to all concerns brought by employees in the assigned area of responsibility.
  • Escalate issues if roadblocks can not be overcome, and if productivity targets will not or can not be met.
  • Direct shift maintenance personnel to make repairs and follow up with the day shift Maintenance Manager on longer term repairs.
  • Monitor Quality Control process as it applies to the direct manufacture and perlite fines production
  • Track and trend the performance of the assigned work crew and provide performance feedback as necessary to meet the overall objectives of the department and Plant.


Education:

  • Minimum high school diploma or equivalent.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering (Chemical or Mechanical) strongly preferred.


Experience:

  • Minimum three (3) years related experience, including supervision.


Compensation Range: 70,000 - $95,000 Depending on education and experience. Employees may be eligible for a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Based at our flagship manufacturing in Lompoc, CA, the Site Manager is responsible for the day-to-day operations of a large plant site which includes mining, production, maintenance, quality lab, warehousing, and shipping. As the site leader, you will operate and maintain an efficient, productive and safe workplace, implementing IMERYS policies and best practices.

The Site Manager has direct supervision responsibilities over employees working in mining, production, maintenance, quality lab, and warehousing. Site manager ensures adherence to local, state and federal governance required as well as assurance of a safe and productive work environment for all site employees.


JOB SCOPE/DIMENSIONS

The Lompoc site is nearly 5000 square acres; it has a surface mine and 4 distinct processes. Over 1500 sku’s exist for the wide range of products produced. The annual sales budget is in excess of $80M.

  • Responsible for preparing the Site budget, forecast and close management of.
  • Direct supervisory responsibility of 8 employees with a site average headcount over a 24 hr period of 160. More than 50% of time is spent supervising others.
  • Requires interaction with customers, vendors, regulatory personnel, and corporate personnel.
  • Review and approval of timecards, expense reports and purchase orders.
  • Recommends and supports management of capital projects.
  • Insures compliance with CGMP, FCC and Pharmacopeia guidelines
  • Minimal domestic travel required (2-3 times/year) and typically no international travel required.


KEY TASKS AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Coordination of mining, production, warehousing and maintenance.
  • Supervise all employees at plant
  • Review financials, prepare forecast and budgets to assure that plant remains profitable
  • Ensure maintenance of a safe and clean work environment for employees through direct supervision and guidance through corporate policies and standards
  • Communicate with customers to ensure that they are getting the best quality service and products
  • Define priorities and prepare plans for site wide process and efficiency improvements
  • Participates in cross-functional teams to support overall company goals


EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:

  • Bachelor of Science or Engineering Degree required.
  • Minimum 10 years heavy industrial and leadership experience required.
  • Experience in Mining industry
  • Maintenance and Reliability experience in a heavy industrial environment
  • Union experience would be helpful.
