Production Lead - 2nd Shift

We are seeking a detail-oriented and proactive Production Lead Second Shift to support and oversee evening production operations at our facility. This role is responsible for leading the second shift production team, ensuring production goals are met while maintaining Fernways quality, compliance, and operational standards.
The second shift hours are M-F 2-10PM.

Second shift leadership requires a high level of autonomy, accountability, and initiative, as this role often operates with less direct management presence. The ideal candidate is a confident decision-maker, strong communicator, and hands-on leader capable of maintaining productivity and team alignment during evening operations.

Production Oversight and Leadership

• 
  
• Support the coordination and supervision of the second shift production team, ensuring tasks are completed efficiently, correctly, and on schedule.
  
• Act as a working lead by actively participating in production tasks while providing on-the-floor leadership, guidance, and mentorship.
  
• Collaborate with the Production Manager to assign duties and monitor team performance.
  
• Maintain clear communication between first shift leadership and second shift staff to ensure continuity of operations.
  
• Coach employees on proper techniques and provide corrective guidance when necessary.
  
• Foster a positive, safe, and respectful team environment that encourages accountability and collaboration.
  
• Escalate personnel or operational issues when necessary while taking initiative to resolve routine problems independently.
  
• Operate vape cartridge equipment with a high degree of accuracy and consistency.
  
• Formulate oil batches for First Shift production.
  

Second Shift Leadership & Autonomy

• 
  
• Operate with a high degree of independence and decision-making authority during evening production hours.
  
• Ensure all production tasks and facility expectations are met without constant supervision.
  
• Take ownership of second shift performance, workflow organization, and team productivity.
  
• Serve as the primary operational leader on shift, maintaining momentum and accountability throughout the evening.
  

Process Optimization

• Continuously assess production workflows and recommend improvements to increase efficiency, accuracy, and output while maintaining safety and quality.

Compliance and Quality Control

• 
  
• Ensure production activities comply with all state cannabis regulations and internal SOPs.
  
• Participate in the creation and application of compliance labels.
  
• Monitor product quality throughout production to ensure Fernway standards are consistently met.
  

Data Management and Reporting

• 
  
• Accurately record production data in internal systems, including production volumes, material usage, downtime incidents, and equipment maintenance logs.
  
• Identify operational issues and recommend solutions to prevent recurrence.
  
• Support execution of daily and weekly production schedules.
  

Training and Development

• 
  
• Maintain expertise in all production equipment and processes.
  
• Act as a trainer and mentor for new hires and production staff.
  
• Assist in creating and updating SOPs and work instructions.
  • Maintain a calm and solutions-oriented presence on the production floor.
  
  
  

Safety and Cleanliness

• 
  
• Promote safe work practices in accordance with OSHA and company policies.
  
• Ensure the production area remains organized, clean, and inspection-ready.

• 21+ years old
  
• 1+ years cannabis experience
  
• State-issued Drivers License
  
• Ability to pass Cannabis regulatory background check
  
• Ability to perform repetitive manual work
  
• Ability to work evening shifts and occasional overtime
  
• Proven ability to meet production goals within deadlines
  
• Knowledge of Metrc, Acumatica, or other tracking systems
  
• Strong leadership and production experience
  
• Excellent communication skills
  
• Ability to work independently with minimal supervision
  
• High attention to detail and commitment to product quality
  
• Dependable, professional, and confident
  
• Strong problem-solving ability and initiative
  
• Ability to lift up to 50 lbs.
  
• Ability to reliably commute to Northampton, Mass., and work on-site
