Be the Pharmacy Director You've Always Strived to Be
- Convey the mission of the hospital and organization to pharmacy staff, holding them accountable for performance, while motivating them to enhance and develop their capabilities.
- Oversee the pharmacy department's operations, including scheduling, continuous assessment, and the implementation of process improvements to optimize department performance.
- Provide direct patient and pharmaceutical care.
- Demonstrate and maintain competence in clinical health system pharmacy practices, including antimicrobial stewardship, non-sterile and sterile drug preparation, controlled substances, hospital pharmacy accreditation, anticoagulation drug therapy management, and medication safety.
- Educate staff on pharmaceutical care and medication management, ensuring the pharmacy consistently complies with local, state, and national regulations.
- Stay current with new medications, indications, and evidence-based medicine. Collaborate with the Controller to prepare and manage departmental budgets for staffing, drugs, and supplies.
- Actively serve and lead various hospital committees, including Quality Assurance, Formulary, Pharmacy and Therapeutics, MEC, and Safety, as needed.

Qualifications
- Licensed in good standing by the State Pharmacy Board for the state where the hospital is located.
- Successful completion of a degree from an accredited pharmacy program or one recognized as substantially equivalent to a U.S. accredited program by an appropriate certifying agency.
- A minimum of 2 years of supervisory experience.
- May be required to work weekdays and/or weekends, evenings and or night shifts.
- May be required to work on religious and/or legal holidays on scheduled days/shifts.
Education and/or years experience required:
•Graduate of a college of pharmacy accredited by the American Council on Pharmaceutical Education (BS or PharmD degree required)
•ASHP-Accredited Hospital Residency, or three or more years of hospital pharmacy experience preferred.
Certification/Licensure Required:
- Licensed as a Registered Pharmacist by the Board of Pharmacy of the state in which they will be working
- Pharmacists in the SMPHM Union, are required to be licensed in both Minnesota and Wisconsin, regardless of their primary worksite

Position Details: The clinical specialist will join an on-site faculty member to provide direct patient care in the Parkview Women’s and Children’s Hospital.

Summary:

- Responsible for the preparation of non-sterile compounding and packaging:
- Ability to accurately draw up oral syringes, compound oral suspensions and other duties as assigned.
- Recognizes the regulations for repackaging medications and complies with all required labeling and documentation procedures for non-sterile compounding and packaging.
- Responsible for answering phones, assisting caller with missing medication requests and any other technical duties as assigned.
- Responsible for utilization of Epic for technical requests (i.e.: missing mediations, ADC out of stock and responding to in-basket messages)
- Responsible for inventory, storage and supply maintenance of assigned areas.
- Responsible for training and compliance with USP , USP , USP , and aseptic technique practices when preparing sterile and non-sterile products:
- Recognizes incompatible, unstable and/or expired compounded products.
- Maintains all required documentation of compounded products and production areas for sterile and non-sterile products.
- Recognizes investigational drug orders and documentation requirements for preparation and use.
- Responsible for exchanging emergency carts and completion of required documentation..
- Responsible for knowing the laws and regulations related to controlled substances.
- Maintain cleanliness of all equipment and work areas.
- Knowledge of departmental and Medical Center safety practices.
- Awareness of departmental quality assurance processes.
- Actively participates in various departmental committees and educational activities as assigned.
- Assists supervisor and pharmacist working in the area in the execution of related assignments involving technical support for the department
- Responsible for participation in the review, revision, and preparation of related policies and procedures for the Department of Pharmacy Policy and Procedure manual.
- Provides departmental support and leadership in fulfilling departmental staffing needs as required during short staffing situations.

Summary:
The Pharmacy Technician 2 Certified performs duties such as prescription data entry, labeling, preparing and filling of medication orders for patients of the retail pharmacy. Such medication orders are prepared up to the point of final checking and dispensing by registered pharmacists. - High School Diploma/GED required.
- Current State of Illinois Pharmacy Technician licensure required.
- Current PTCB Pharmacy Technician Certification (CPhT) required and/or EXCPT
- Individuals licensed BEFORE January 1, 2008 are grandfathered; they are not required to become nationally certified or hold the "Certified" designation to continue working as a registered pharmacy technician in Illinois.

Responsibilities:
- Recognizes and identifies various classes of drugs and their generic and trade names.
- Assists pharmacists in coordinating and scheduling preparation of sterile admixtures.
- Performs pharmaceutical math with understanding and accuracy, including: fundamental math functions, common apothecary and metric conversions, pharmaceutical dose calculations, and parenteral dose calculations.
- Familiar with abbreviation symbols and equivalents used in pharmacy communications.
- Understands various drugs' storage requirements, dosage forms and compounding techniques. Demonstrates understanding and proficiency of extemporaneous compounding skills.
- Possesses proficient data entry skills. Demonstrates essential computer skills such as order entry, label generation, drug pricing, and third party billing. Prioritizes workload to maintain an efficient workflow.
- Recognizes various billing plan codes and which drugs are covered under these different plans.
- Assists in looking up information to answer general information questions. Refers questions regarding drug information or patient specific questions to a pharmacist.
- Ensures the I.V. preparation room and related equipment are cleaned, calibrated and maintained per organizational policy and procedure.
- Updates/revises patient inventory usage numbers in the computer based on actual usage, change in orders, and communication with other team members.
- Remains alert to customer needs and provides prompt, courteous customer service.
- Responds to and resolves patient/customer problems in an appropriate and timely fashion using proper channels.
- Maintains work area in an organized and orderly fashion, including facing of shelves and returning medications to shelves.
- Checks and maintains adequate supply of stock necessary to fill prescriptions. Orders stock well in advance of running out. Follows up with stock back orders and processes balance-due prescriptions.
- Maintains CE hours required to retain CPhT certification.

Operations
* Under the supervision by the pharmacist, assist in the practice of pharmacy, in accordance with state, federal, and company policy. Reviews and complies with the Walgreen Co. Pharmacy Code of Conduct.
* Performs duties as assigned by Pharmacy Manager, Staff Pharmacist and Store Manager including utilizing pharmacy systems to enter patient and drug information, ensuring information is entered correctly, filling prescriptions by retrieving, counting and pouring pharmaceutical drugs, verifying medicine is correct, and checking for possible interactions. Assists pharmacists in scheduling and maintaining work flow.
* Reports, immediately, prescription errors to pharmacist on duty and adheres to Company policies and procedures in relation to pharmacy errors and the Quality Improvement Program.
* Strictly adheres to the Walgreen Co. policy regarding Good Faith Dispensing during all applicable prescription dispensing activities.
* Responsible and accountable for registering all related sales on assigned cash register, collects and handles cash as required. Takes customer to OTC aisle when possible to assist in locating products.
* Handles telephone calls that do not require personal attention of the pharmacist, including those to physicians.
* Processes (corrects and resubmits) manual claims for third party program prescription services in a timely and efficient manner, and performs other clerical duties, as assigned by the Pharmacy Manager.
* Assists and supports Pharmacy Department on inventory management activities, such as, ordering, unpacking, checking and storing shipment of pharmaceuticals. Maintains knowledge of Company asset protection techniques, and files claims for warehouse overages (merchandise received, but not billed), shortages (merchandise billed, but not received), order errors or damaged goods involving Rx drugs.
* May assist pharmacist in administering clinical services including the collection and proper labeling of blood/urine samples from patients and other clinical services as required; assists pharmacy staff in coordination of clinical services, Walgreens healthcare clinics and external providers.
* Assists Pharmacy Manager and Staff Pharmacist in developing and maintaining good relationships with the local medical community, including physicians, nurses, and other health care providers, by medical provider detailing and outreach to health groups, retirement homes, nursing homes, and other forums for enhancing growth opportunities.
* Assists with exterior and interior maintenance by ensuring the Pharmacy Department is stocked with adequate supplies, clean, neat and orderly in condition and appearance.
* Complies with all company policies and procedures; maintains respectful relationships with coworkers.
* Completes special assignments and other tasks as assigned.
Training & Personal Development
* Earns and maintains PTCB certification through the designated PTCB training program and/or state required certification/registration. Otherwise, earns PTCB certification as condition of promotion to senior technician.
* Attends training and completes PPLs requested by Manager and acquires continuing education credits. Maintains knowledge and skill in healthcare and pharmacy, including latest news and developments.
Basic Qualifications
* Must be fluent in reading, writing, and speaking English. (Except in Puerto Rico)
* Requires willingness to work flexible schedule, including evening and weekend hours.
Preferred Qualifications
* Prefer six months of experience in a retail environment.
* Prefer to have prior work experience with Walgreens.
* Prefer good math skills so they can fill prescriptions accurately, including counting, measuring and weighing medications.
* Prefer good computer skills.
* Prefer the knowledge of store inventory control.
* Prefer PTCB certification.
