The Design Engineer I supports the development of custom display and user-interface assemblies from concept through production release. This role operates in a low-volume, high-mix environment and must manage multiple active programs in parallel while maintaining documentation accuracy, revision discipline, and manufacturability alignment.
This is a hands-on engineering role requiring technical rigor, structured change control behavior, and the ability to move efficiently between projects without loss of detail or ownership.
· Develop mechanical or electrical design solutions for custom assemblies and sub-systems.
· Translate customer and internal requirements into production-ready drawings, BOMs, and controlled engineering documentation.
· Manage multiple design efforts concurrently in a high-mix environment, maintaining schedule discipline and design integrity across programs.
· Generate and maintain detailed component drawings, assembly drawings, BOMs, and test specifications within PLM and ERP systems.
· Execute and process Engineering Change Orders (ECOs) with strict revision control discipline.
· Support prototype builds, hands-on development, testing, troubleshooting, and validation activities.
· Perform tolerance analysis, material selection, component integration, and system-level problem solving.
· Collaborate with Manufacturing Engineering to ensure Design for Manufacturability (DFM) and smooth transition to production.
· Participate in structured design reviews, risk assessments, and root cause investigations.
· Support technical clarification during quoting and customer design discussions when required.
· Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives focused on yield, documentation clarity, and cost control.
· Ensure compliance with AS9100 / ISO9001 quality systems and ITAR program requirements.
· Ownership & Accountability – Takes responsibility for design quality, documentation accuracy, and follow-through.
· Process Discipline – Organized, structured, and comfortable working within controlled revision and PLM systems.
· Parallel Execution Capability – Able to manage multiple active projects without losing detail, responsiveness, or urgency.
· Technical Initiative – Hands-on, proactive in testing and troubleshooting, and motivated to solve problems beyond assigned tasks.
· Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or related discipline.
· 3+ years of design engineering experience in a manufacturing environment.
· Experience generating production-level drawings and managing controlled revisions.
· Experience operating within ERP and/or PLM systems.
· Ability to work on-site in a regulated environment.
· Must be eligible to support ITAR-controlled programs.
· Aerospace, defense, industrial, or medical device manufacturing.
· Experience in low-volume, high-mix production environments.
· DFM/DFA principles.
· Injection molding, sheet metal, PCB integration, or electro-mechanical assemblies.
· Structured root cause methodologies (8D, Fishbone, etc.).
