The Staff Scientist will prepare grant applications and other scientific communication materials on a wide range of genomic research topics. This role is deeply immersed in the science of NYGC and supports our research team in building and expanding a successful, independently-funded research base. They collaborate with diverse teams of students, postdoctoral fellows, and principal investigators, and relates scientific and strategic goals to individual grant opportunities and other research communications vehicles. Typical grants include individual investigator, multi-PI and research center grants.
Key Responsibilities
- Takes a lead role in preparation and project management of individual and multi-investigator proposals;
- Provides advice on grantsmanship, editorial support and standardized language for administrative sections;
- Identifies opportunities for funding
- Manages the scientific writing process, including proposal management, team-building and coordination; establishing timelines and deliverables;
- Provides draft preparation, review and revision of grants and scientific writing.
- Coordinates with and supports Sponsored Research staff to ensure timely, accurate application submission.
- Edits manuscripts, fellowship applications, research progress reports, clinical research protocols and other research communications materials.
- Interacts with lab members to independently develop new grant proposals.
- Organizes small group meetings with lab members to review project progress, plan experiments, and integrate team data.
- Assists in the design and planning of functional genomics and genetic perturbation experiments; and,
- Assists in analysis and figure preparation of diverse types of data, including high-throughput sequencing, microscopy images, gel images, and schematic diagrams.
Key Responsibilities include (but are not limited to):
- PhD in genetics, genomics, cancer biology, neuroscience or related discipline required;
- 5+ years research experience, including contributing to grant writing, required. NIH experience strongly desirable;
- Exceptional written communication skills required to prepare and edit competitive grant applications, publications, administrative materials, and other research communications;
- Ability to grasp complicated technical subjects, synthesize diverse lines of evidence and apply these abilities to technical writing required;
- Experience handling the scientific writing and project management process for multi-investigator and institutional grant applications strongly preferred;
- Experience with standard grant development concepts, practices, and procedures in a research environment preferred;
- Applied statistics background required, to perform power calculations and develop quantitative metrics for genomic assays;
- Ability to collaborate with diverse teams of investigators and administrative personnel required; and,
- Strong project management skills and experience required.

Salary

About the New York Genome Center
The New York Genome Center (NYGC) is an independent, nonprofit, academic research organization dedicated to advancing genomic research. NYGC scientists and staff are furthering new approaches to diagnosing and treating neurological diseases and cancer through their unique capabilities in whole genome sequencing, RNA sequencing, state-of-the art analytics, and the development of genomic tools. From your PASSION to ours
The Associate Grants Manager works directly with the Director, Government and Industry Affairs and with the Senior Funding Advisor on initiatives aimed at securing public funding for priority projects across the Lactalis USA footprint. The position is responsible for sourcing and understanding technical information provided by Manufacturing, Human Resources, Engineering, Finance and other business units and then translating that information into language suitable for a grant application. The position requires strong verbal and written communication skills as well as the ability to adapt to various internal and external audience needs. Typical interactions will include grant administrators or state and municipal agencies - for example, when clarifications are needed regarding eligible expenses, program timelines, etc.
In addition to helping identify funding opportunities that match Lactalis USA's long-term funding priorities and managing applications/interactions, this role will manage reporting and compliance processes for successful applications along with internal project tracking reports.
The successful candidate will report to the Director of Government and Industry Affairs and be based in our downtown Chicago office.
From your STORY to ours
- SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES Holds a critical cross-functional role at Lactalis USA - across all brands, offices and manufacturing sites - responsible for both the strategic and financial dimensions of grant acquisition and management.
- Under the leadership of the Director, Government and Industry Affairs, this position conducts grant writing, proposal development and coordination with program teams, while also drafting grant budgets, preparing financial documentation, and ensuring compliance with grantor and internal financial standards.
- Gathers internal financial and technical project data for planned investments for new U.S. capital projects, production lines, expansion of existing activities, innovation, efficiency/optimization of resources, automation, staff training, transition to green energy sources or other ESG-related initiatives and assess if the projects contemplated may qualify for government incentives (i.e. 'right fit' between business drivers behind a project and funding program themes, objectives and requirements).
- Manages relationships with grant administrators, federal, state and local agencies. Identifies new opportunities for relationship-building.
- Compiles, tracks, updates and memorializes current U.S. funding programs and opportunities administered by Lactalis USA divisions.
- Communicates with external program administrators to gather program information (eligible applicants, eligible projects and activities, eligible expenditures, assessment criteria, etc.).
- Supports the development, execution and monitoring of funding application engagement plans (orienting the right projects towards the right programs to maximize opportunities).
- Identifies, pursues and tracks new funding opportunities.
- Enters data and qualitative information in internal tools (e.g. Excel, Qlik or other databases) to track funding applications and compliance/reporting for approved funding. Prepares reports, tables, diagrams, or other types of figures that will improve the effectiveness of internal and external communication products.
- Builds cross-departmental collaboration around funding opportunities and performance reporting.
- Develops and refines standard operating procedures (SOPs), templates, and internal workflows to strengthen grants management capacity. Provide training and technical assistance to staff on grant proposal development and compliance with best practices.
- Supports the Director, Government and Industry Affairs, and the Vice President of Communications and Government Affairs, on other regulatory, government relations or industry relations matters, administrative management, budget management and other divisional and company priorities.
Requirements
From your EXPERTISE to ours
- University degree or College diploma in Engineering, Food Science, Finance, Business administration, Agricultural economics, or other related discipline.
Experience:
- Minimum two (2) years of grants management or grants administration experience.
- General knowledge of federal, state and local grant and funding incentive environments.
- Prior experience in securing private or public funding for large capex projects or in the consumer-packed goods industry is a plus.
Competencies
- Strong detail and process orientation, with experience creating, organizing and editing technical documentation as well as distilling complex manufacturing and engineering concepts into simple language.

What will you do?
- Paint, hang, and repair drywall as needed, and install shelves, hooks, and closet rods
- Change light bulbs, replace fixtures, open clogged drains, and repair leaks

- Ensure tools and equipment are in working order, and keep the maintenance room in neat condition
- Assist with loading or unloading trucks of maintenance parts and supplies
- Operate company vehicles for transportation across the property as needed

- Previous experience with fire and boiler heat systems preferred

Maintain accurate records of all grants to ensure timely billing, invoicing, and draw requests.

Collaborate with the CEO and leadership team to identify new funding opportunities and partnerships that advance program impact and sustainability.
Compliance & Reporting Oversee compliance with all grant, programmatic, and contractual requirements across departments.

Qualifications Bachelor's degree in Social Work, Public Administration, Nonprofit Management, or related field (Master's preferred).
Minimum of five years of progressively responsible leadership experience in nonprofit program management, grant writing, and regulatory compliance.
Demonstrated success securing, managing, and stewarding federal, state, and private foundation grants, including reporting and reimbursement processes.
Strong financial acumen with experience overseeing multi-program budgets, grant billing, and fund tracking in collaboration with finance teams.
Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel and experience utilizing data management systems to track outcomes, analyze performance, and ensure data integrity.
Working knowledge of QuickBooks accounting software, including budget monitoring, billing support, and financial reporting functions.

Job Description Summary:
This position ensures organizational excellence related to customer service and quality of care while promoting excellence in the cultural experience at assigned hospital. This position is responsible for providing services to patients, families and significant others including, as appropriate, completion of biopsychosocial assessments, psychiatric diagnoses, formulation of treatment plans and treatment interventions, therapy sessions (individual, couple, families or group), implementation of treatment plans and discharge planning in order to support and/or enhance biopsychosocial functioning.Β This role will receive referrals for individuals from at-risk populations from interdisciplinary team members (including physicians, Case Managers, staff nurses and other members of the care team).This position includes both in office and potential remote work. The position works alongside the RN Care Mangers and Community Health Worker and would support multiple Graduate Medical Education offices.
Must be able to demonstrate knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to the patient served.Β Must demonstrate knowledge of the principles of growth and development as it relates to the different life cycles.Β Specific age groups that are served by this position are circled.Β This position requires ability to act quickly and work in high stress situations.
Responsibilities And Duties:
30% Clinical AssessmentConducts patient/family/significant other interviews, chart reviews, and professional collaboration to obtain and interpret information pertaining to patient/client biopsychosocial functioning. Assessment to include, but not be limited to: developmental and age-specific needs; ability to care for self; ability to care for dependents; ability to meet basic custodial and financial needs; ability to engage in meaningful social and emotional relationships; and ability to comprehend and comply with treatment recommendations. Develops care plan, including discharge plan, incorporating medical plan of care. Participates in identification of cases of abuse, neglect or exploitation and refers such cases to the legally mandated authorities when applicable.Β Provides crisis intervention, information and referral and linkage to community resources as needed.
30% Intervention Management
Develops a plan of intervention based upon assessment to resolve identified problems and/or to support and enhance biopsychosocial functioning.Β Through individual, family, or group modalities, employs clinical intervention skills including, but not limited to, treatment planning; continuum of care planning (including discharge planning); supportive counseling; crisis intervention; specialized problem oriented planning and intervention; and educational counseling.
25% Population Management
Staff is accountable for coordinating clinical and financial outcomes of an assigned population.Β Works collaboratively with interdisciplinary staff and external organizations to achieve timely, cost effective management of patient care.Β Monitors for quality and type of services delivered to patients, ensuring management within established parameters. Functions as a liaison to the payer to manage the post-discharge financial resources and ensure expected treatment process, progress and discharge plan. Monitors and ensures completeness of all assigned patients in areas of treatment plan and timely reports.Β
10% Documentation and Regulatory Compliance
Thoroughly documents assessments and interventions in patientβs medical record and information systems in accordance with department standards. Complies with internal and external documentation requirements as related to specific patient/system needs and regulatory requirements.

Maintains awareness of current hospital, community services and appropriate care options that can assist patient/clinical biopsychosocial functioning. Provides information as well as facilitates successful linkages between those services and the patient/client.Β Performs additional functions as may be appropriate to the position.
Minimum Qualifications:
Master's Degree: Social Work (Required)DL-HC - Driver's License only if in a Home Care department - Department of Motor Vehicles, LSW - Licensed Social Worker - Social Work Certification and Licensure BoardAdditional Job Description:
Masters degree in Social Work or a related field and LSW license in the State of Ohio.Β
1-2 yearsβ experience as an LSW, preferably in a patient-centric setting and knowledge of medical terminology and computer skills.
Licensed Social Workers with Bachelors of Social Work hired prior to 01/10/2019 are grandfathered into this job. Associates hired after 01/10/2019 will need to meet current qualifications.
