Ride Control Hardware Engineers work within Walt Disney Imagineering’s Ride Studio in a highly collaborative environment on diverse teams.  Engineering activities cover all aspects of control system design and implementation, from concept to commissioning, for a wide variety of innovative ride platforms.

The Ride Control Hardware Engineer will report to the Ride Control Systems Engineering Executive.

This is a full time role.

What You Will Do:

• Support programmable, electrical, and electronic hardware scope to design and deliver control systems for complex, innovative ride systems
• Perform engineering design and analysis for ride systems, focusing on electrical control systems
• Develop control system and network architectures
• Design, model, and analyze electrical supply systems
• Research new products, technologies, and methodologies
• Lead a team of ride control engineers and collaborate with other professionals to develop ride control systems
• Develop control equipment requirements and specifications
• Develop and implement proof-of-concept mock-ups and prototypes

Required Qualifications & Skills

• 10+ Years experience in the Engineering field as related to controlling electromechanical systems
• Experienced in fail-safe and safety-related control system design
• Extensive knowledge of control processors, components, and communication networks
• Highly proficient in industrial control system installation, integration, and commissioning
• Solid understanding of communication protocols: TCP/IP, CAN, serial, ProfiNET, Ethernet/IP, EtherCAT
• Extensive knowledge of electrical design standards and codes, including UL508a and NEC
• Familiarity with amusement and automation industry standards, including ASTM F2291
• Expertise in motor and motion control methods and components
• Ability to travel domestically and internationally for 1-week to 3-year durations.

  The hiring range for this position in California is $151,900 to $246,700 per year. The base pay actually offered will take into account internal equity and also may vary

Responsibilities

In your role as a Radar Design Engineer, you will be responsible for designing digital and analog circuits for our next-generation Radar system. You will be involved in all phases of development, from conception to production, tracing system-level requirements through to circuit-level design. You will drive the design and layout of a multi-processor with an FPGA on chip using DDR 4 memory, as well as designing switching and linear power supplies. The high-speed digital design is complemented by high-frequency analog and RF design up to 12GHz. You will own the schematic, layout, artwork generation and bring-up of hardware. You will be responsible for the certification of your design to DO-160, DO-254 design assurance and FCC certification. • 5+ years of professional hands-on experience with high-speed digital circuits, linear and switching power regulator circuits, PLL's, VGA, mixers etc.

• Ability to use Circuit simulators, Altium schematic capture and layout, and SPICE simulation software

• Ability to troubleshoot, find root cause, and resolve issues

• Experienced in using oscilloscopes, logic analyzers, spectrum analyzers and Vector Network Analyzers

2. Lab Management and Testbed Operations

• Oversee daily operations of the Center for Wireless Intelligence research lab, including equipment procurement, spectrum tools, RF instrumentation, compute clusters, and software environments.
• Manage, maintain, and expand the outdoor wireless testbed (campus-scale or city-scale): radios, remote nodes, edge compute, backhaul, deployment logistics, calibration, and field testing.
• Ensure safety, compliance, documentation, inventory management, and continuous uptime of lab and testbed assets.
• Build automated pipelines for experiments, data collection, benchmarking, and reproducibility.

3. Affiliate Engagement, Business Development, and Partnerships

• Engage, onboard, and close new affiliate companies into the CWI affiliate program.
• Serve as technical liaison for affiliate members across telecom, semiconductor, cloud, defense, and AI domains.
• Define joint research thrusts, scoping documents, deliverables, and IP paths with partner organizations.
• Coordinate demos, campus visits, on-site reviews, and technical deep-dives for affiliates.

4. Project Management and PhD Mentorship

• Mentor PhD students, postdocs, and research engineers working on 6G, wireless intelligence, agentic systems, and related topics.
• Manage multi-PI, multi-institution, and affiliate-funded projects, ensuring timely execution, deliverables, reporting, and stakeholder satisfaction.
• Provide technical direction, experiment planning, scheduling, milestones, and results dissemination.

5. Proposal Development and Funding Acquisition

• Lead and contribute to major proposals for federal, state, and institute-level funding, including NSF, DARPA, IARPA, NIST, NIH, DoD, DOE, and industry research labs.
• Manage full proposal lifecycle: concept development, whitepapers, teaming, budget coordination, compliance, and final submission.
