The North Carolina Neuroscience & Spine Center provides specialized care for individuals with spine-related conditions and back pain , tailoring treatment solutions to suit each patient's unique needs. Our pain management physicians work as integral members of our multidisciplinary spine care team , utilizing interventional procedures and conservative treatments to address chronic back pain, radiculopathy, spinal stenosis, and other spine-related pain conditions .
While our primary focus is spine and back pain management, our pain physicians also treat a full spectrum of pain-related conditions affecting other body regions. We are committed to exploring all available treatment modalities, collaborating closely with neurosurgeons, physical therapists, and other specialists to devise comprehensive, patient-centered care strategies that deliver optimal outcomes and improve quality of life.
The position is mostly outpatient but does have some inpatient consults. Inpatient consults average around 5-7 per week.
Job Responsibilities
• Discuss medical history with patients to acquire knowledge of healthcare practices.
• Conduct comprehensive patient assessments to diagnose pain conditions.
• Create and discuss a pain management treatment plan with patients.
• Treat patients by employing interventional techniques such as injections and/or other devices.

UPMC Hamot , located in Erie, Pennsylvania , is seeking a skilled and compassionate Board-Certified or Board-Eligible Pain Management Physician to join its growing interventional pain medicine team. This role offers the chance to make a meaningful impact on patient lives while practicing within a high?quality academic health system affiliated with the University of Pittsburgh. Our specialists work closely with UPMC Hamot's primary care network to institute a sustainable approach to pain management. The physician will work in a multispecialty clinical office.
Balanced Role: Responsible for evaluating, diagnosing, and managing a wide range of chronic pain syndromes.
Work Schedule: Responsibilities include providing outpatient office visits and performing procedures at the surgery center, with required travel to nearby regional clinics.
Procedures: Multidisciplinary environment offering a full spectrum of pain treatments, including: caudal nerve blocks, epidurals (cervical, thoracic, and lumbar), facet joint injections, genicular nerve block and ablation, intercostal nerve blocks, medial branch blocks, multimodal pain medicine management, occipital nerve blocks, platelet rich plasma (PRP), prolotherapy, radiofrequency ablation, regenerative injection therapy, shoulder, knee, and hip injections, sympathetic blocks, trigeminal nerve blocks and trigger point injections.
Qualifications:
- MD/DO from an accredited medical school
- Candidate must be Board Eligible or Board Certified and have completed an ACGME Accredited Pain Medicine Fellowship
- Ability to obtain an unrestricted Pennsylvania Medical License and ability to obtain necessary credentials
- DEA certification
- A commitment to patient-centered care and excellent interpersonal skills are essential, as we prioritize delivering the highest quality care in a compassionate, professional environment

Board Eligibility or Certification in Anesthesiology is required for this position. (Regional Anesthesia and Acute Pain Management Faculty should feel comfortable performing and supervising all commonly utilized peripheral and neuraxial nerve block techniques, including superficial and deep cervical plexus, interscalene, supraclavicular, infraclavicular, axillary, elbow, wrist, femoral nerve, adductor canal, fascia iliaca, sub gluteal sciatic nerve, lateral popliteal sciatic nerve, IPACK, TAP, rectus sheath, PEC1, PEC2, ESP, and stellate ganglion blocks, if indicated with catheter placement.
Regional Anesthesia and Acute Pain Management Faculty should feel comfortable managing acute pain patients and acute-on chronic pain patients in an inpatient setting.
Applicants should be comfortable supervising residents, and fellows.
Applicants should be able to participate in the academic activities of the department including teaching and mentoring trainees and participating in departmental conferences and faculty meetings.
