About the Role
We are seeking an EHS Consultant with strong expertise in biosafety and chemical hygiene to support laboratory operations within a life sciences environment. This role is responsible for ensuring safe handling of biological and chemical hazards while driving regulatory compliance and proactive risk management.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead and support biosafety programs, including BSL-2 environments and Institutional Biosafety Committee (IBC) coordination
- Serve as a subject matter expert for chemical hygiene, including development and management of Chemical Hygiene Plans
- Conduct laboratory risk assessments,hazard evaluations, and safety inspections
- Oversee chemical inventory, approvals, storage, and hazard communication compliance
- Ensure compliance with OSHA (HazCom) and applicable EPA regulations
- Lead incident investigations and implement corrective and preventive actions (CAPA)
- Deliver lab safety and biosafety training to scientific staff
- Support spill response, exposure assessment, and regulatory reporting as needed
- Partner with lab teams and leadership to promote a proactive safety culture
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in a scientific or EHS-related field
- 5+ years of experience in EHS within laboratory or life sciences settings
- Direct experience with biosafety programs (BSL-2 or higher)
- Strong experience managing Chemical Hygiene Plans and chemical safety programs
- Knowledge of OSHA Hazard Communication Standard
- Experience conducting risk assessments and incident investigations
Preferred
- Experience with IBC processes
- Industrial hygiene exposure (monitoring, sampling)
- Experience in biopharma or research labs
- Relevant certifications (CIH, CSP, etc.)
