Pay: $30.00 – $35.00/hour (DOE)
About the Role
SRG is partnering with a leading advanced manufacturing and technology organization to hire a Senior Thermal Test Technician for a development facility in Hillsboro, Oregon.
This role is centered on thermal testing and data analysis for complex heated assemblies used in advanced process systems. You will operate in a prototype and development environment, executing thermal uniformity and burn-in testing, consolidating and interpreting data, and collaborating closely with engineering to drive product and process improvements.
We are seeking a hands-on technician who can independently set up and execute tests, troubleshoot systems, and deliver clear, data-driven insights. This position requires adaptability, strong attention to detail, and comfort working in a fast-paced, technically complex, and evolving environment.
Key Responsibilities
Thermal Testing & Lab Execution
- Perform thermal uniformity and burn-in testing on complex heated assemblies
- Independently set up, instrument, and execute lab tests, including:
- Installing thermocouples and sensors
- Routing wiring and cabling
- Configuring test stands and instrumentation
- Take ownership of the thermal test station, including setup, operation, data quality, and continuous improvement
- Follow and promote electrical and lab safety practices when working with energized heaters, wiring, and instrumentation
Data Analysis & Reporting
- Collect, analyze, and document test data; generate clear, detailed test reports
- Interpret results and partner with engineering to recommend design and process improvements—not just report pass/fail outcomes
Troubleshooting & Failure Analysis
- Perform failure analysis on development, production, and field-returned components
- Support resolution of manufacturability and process-related issues within a prototype/development environment
Process Development & Documentation
- Develop and maintain test procedures, work instructions, and documentation
- Support creation and maintenance of product-related data within internal systems
Collaboration & Cross-Functional Support
- Coordinate, as needed, with suppliers on components and samples in partnership with engineering and operations
- Participate in occasional on-site customer visits at the Hillsboro facility related to testing, performance, and product readiness (no regular customer site travel)
Training & Leadership
- Train lab and production personnel on equipment, processes, and procedures
- Provide mentorship and technical guidance to junior team members
Required Qualifications
Education & Experience
- Associate degree in a technical field (e.g., electrical, electronics, mechatronics)
- or equivalent hands-on experience (typically 5+ years in a lab/test or troubleshooting role)
Technical Skills
- Strong understanding of basic electrical theory and safe work practices around energized systems
- Experience troubleshooting mechanical and/or electrical systems
- Hands-on experience in lab/test environments, including:
- Complex test setup and configuration
- Instrumentation and data acquisition/data logging tools
- Ability to work independently and manage multiple priorities with minimal supervision
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office, especially Excel for data analysis and reporting
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with data acquisition systems (DAQ), data loggers, or similar tools
- Background in high-precision or tight-tolerance environments
- Experience with product data systems (e.g., PDM, PLM, or ERP-related modules)
- Prior experience with thermal testing, environmental testing, or similar advanced test setups
What We’re Looking For
- Strong attention to detail and organizational skills
- Analytical mindset with proven problem-solving ability
- Demonstrated ownership of test processes, including proactive improvement recommendations
- Comfortable working in a development/prototype environment where processes evolve
- Adaptable and responsive in a technically demanding, fast-changing setting
- Self-motivated with a desire to learn new tools and technologies
- Clear communicator able to collaborate across engineering, operations, and technical teams
- Strong commitment to product and test quality, even under tight timelines and shifting priorities
Schedule, Travel & Work Environment
- Schedule: Monday–Friday, day shift (approximately 7:00 AM–4:00 PM or 8:00 AM–5:00 PM)
- Overtime: Occasional, based on testing demand, with emphasis on maintaining a sustainable workload
- Travel (Initial): Approximately 3–4 weeks total during the first 3–4 months for training at U.S. and Mexico facilities (e.g., San Jose, CA and Querétaro, Mexico)
- Ongoing Travel: Minimal; role is primarily based at the Hillsboro, OR facility
- Physical Requirements: Standing for extended periods, lifting up to 50 lbs, working around heated equipment.
Compensation & Conversion
- Pay Rate: $30–$35/hour, depending on experience
- Type: Contract-to-hire with a typical evaluation period of approximately 90 days
