The Charge Nurse is a professional nurse who manages the daily operations of a department (s) to provide services for patients while meeting quality, legal, organizational and medical staff goals. Responsible for promoting the efficient operations to provide effective nursing care of a designated department (s). Manages the department independently under the guidance of a Nurse Manager/Director.
Job Responsibilities
- Assists with recruiting and training of new hires.
- Prepares assigned reports for nurse managers.
- Assists with Tempo and staff meetings.
- Assists with scheduling to ensure adequate and safe coverage for the unit.
- Assists in the performance of the operational aspects of a designated unit(s) while providing mentoring and leadership support to the unit(s) staff.

- Serves as a resource person on the unit; assists with patient care as needed.
- Interprets to staff the application and implementation of the philosophy, objectives, policies and procedures of the unit, department, and Hospital.
- Identifies appropriate internal controls for department; provides mechanisms to monitor and enforce compliance. Monitors and promotes positive employee relations practices while providing leadership, support, and patient care when required.
- Adheres to internal controls established for department; adheres to all policies and procedures of SFH, including Target 100. Performs related duties as required
Required Education/Training/Experience
Education: Graduate of an accredited School of Nursing,

Unit Description: The Cardiovascular Unit provides professional nursing care to out-patients for planned procedures in the Cardiac Catheterization Lab, Electrophysiology Lab, Non-Invasive Cardiology, Interventional Radiology Lab, and a variety of Radiology procedures. This dynamic 15 bay unit provides Pre- and Post-Procedural care. You will be part of a collaborative, interdisciplinary team dedicated to patient & family-centered care with responsibility for treating a diverse patient population. We are a Level I Tertiary care hospital, providing care with state-of-the-art technology. You will be part of a collaborative, interdisciplinary team dedicated to patient & family-centered care. We also support the professional development of our nurses, providing opportunities for education through conferences and Board Certification. Our nurses also have the opportunity to advance through the Clinical Advancement and Recognition Program (CARP). Our unit is open Monday-Friday, 6:00 a.m. to 6:30 p.m.
On-call: There are occasional On Call shifts from 6:30 p.m.- 9:30 p.m depending on the FTE. The 0.6 FTE position requires one On Call shift/week.

Job Title: Cath Lab Registered Nurse
Responsible for performing assessments, developing a plan of care, implementing and evaluating the care. The RN administers medications and treatments as ordered by physicians and in keeping with the current clinical nursing practice. The RN is responsible for directing, monitoring and evaluating the care delegated to non-licensed personnel. As a member of the interdisciplinary care team, the RN works collaboratively with the other members to assure the safe and accurate delivery of care. In addition, the RN performs a range of technical services in a cross-functional mode to comprehensively serve patient needs. Assumes, under the direction of the Laboratory, responsibility for patient specimen testing, quality control, quality improvement, and equipment maintenance.

* Documents findings and communicates all pertinent information to interdisciplinary team members as appropriate.

* Provides competent direct care and ensures the provision of a safe and comforting environment resulting in a high level of patient satisfaction.

Overview
Opened in 2007, Progress West Hospital is BJC HealthCareโs newest hospital in St. Charles County, featuring modern private rooms. It offers 24-hour emergency services and has partnered with St. Louis Childrenโs Hospital to provide world-class pediatric emergency care.
Progress West Hospital also provides surgical services, endoscopy services, a cardiac catheterization lab, medical/surgical inpatient services, diagnostic imaging, lab services, and the Advanced Wound Center, a specialty wound treatment facility with state-of-the-art equipment. Progress West Hospital recently completed an expansion of its Childbirth Center to include enhanced services for at-risk mothers and babies, with a newborn ICU that provides care for babies born as early as 32 weeks.
Progress West Hospital is a Certified Level II Stroke Center. The hospitalโs medical office building houses offices for specialists in primary care, cardiology, obstetrics, pediatrics, and orthopedics.
The Cardiac Cath Lab opened in the Summer of 2011 focusing on diagnostic testing. Interventional services will added late Summer, early Fall of 2011. This department, along with all departments within the hospital, supports the guiding principles of the hospital in providing care that is customized and reflects the patient's needs, values, and choices.

Role Purpose
The Advanced Modality Special Procedures Technologist - CCL/IR/Neuro performs a variety of complex, specialized tasks in all cardiac, vascular, neuroradiology angiographic and interventional procedures for the purpose of diagnosis and/or treatment of anatomic and physiologic disorders.
Responsibilities
- Demonstrate subject matter expertise for the operation, maintenance, quality assurance and troubleshooting of all radiographic equipment used in the cardiac, vascular, neuroradiology and interventional procedures.
- Scrubs and surgically assists physician during, cardiac, vascular, neuroradiology angiographic and interventional procedures to include: maintaining sterile field, handling of instruments and supplies, participates in placement/implantation of catheters, guide wires and medical devices (ie stents, intra-aortic balloon pump, pacemakers, lead revisions, etc.) operating and monitoring equipment and bi-plane table, and alerts physician to changes in patient condition.
- Performs specialized radiographic imaging examinations to make special study radiographs of designated body portions in accordance with radiation safety procedures.
- Prepare and position patients and select anatomic and technical parameters accurately to ensure most optimal patient outcome.
- BJC has determined this is a safety-sensitive position. The ability to work in a constant state of alertness and in a safe manner is an essential function of this job.

POSITION SUMMARY
A Medical Technologist is responsible for conducting laboratory tests which provide information to physicians for the diagnosis, prevention or treatment of diseases in patients.
Essential Functions:

โข Positively identifies patients, labels specimens and enters results using two unique identifiers. Maintains working knowledge of laboratory policies and procedures.
โข Maintains current knowledge and adheres to hospital policies and state, federal and other regulatory requirements
โข Responds appropriately to tests with a priority of STAT, call results or timed specimens
โข Responsible for training new employees and students as assigned.

Formal Education / Training:

Assesses and interprets patient data to identify ageโspecific needs and provide appropriate care for Neonate, Pediatric, Adolescent, Adult, and Geriatric patient groups.
Independently circulates, scrubs, and records Adult Diagnostic/Interventional procedures and at least three of the following five service areas: Electrophysiology, Pediatrics, Neuro Intervention, Structural Heart, and Vascular.
Holds responsibility for an assigned area or program (Electrophysiology, Cardiac Devices, Pediatrics, Neuro Intervention, Structural Heart, and/or Vascular) that supports the operation of the Cardiovascular Laboratory (CVL).
Qualifications:
Associate's degree in Invasive Cardiovascular/Cardiopulmonary Technologist program, radiology, Respiratory therapy, paramedic; Surgical Tech (Certificate must be 1 yr. min program). 3 years of additional experience can be substituted in lieu of degree.
Additionally, 1 year of adult Cath lab diagnostic and interventional procedure in performing scrubbing, circulating and monitoring and recording duties.
RCIS or RCES or must be signed up for RCIS test within 18 months of employment and obtained within 2 years of employment. RCES for EP must be signed up for test within 30 months of employment and obtained within 3 years of employment.
ACLS (PALS is only required at Presbyterian Downtown) is required within the first 6 months.
Requires detailed knowledge of cardiovascular anatomy, physiology, disease processes and principles of cardiovascular diagnostic and interventional technology.
