Unit Description: The Cardiovascular Unit provides professional nursing care to out-patients for planned procedures in the Cardiac Catheterization Lab, Electrophysiology Lab, Non-Invasive Cardiology, Interventional Radiology Lab, and a variety of Radiology procedures. This dynamic 15 bay unit provides Pre- and Post-Procedural care. You will be part of a collaborative, interdisciplinary team dedicated to patient & family-centered care with responsibility for treating a diverse patient population. We are a Level I Tertiary care hospital, providing care with state-of-the-art technology. You will be part of a collaborative, interdisciplinary team dedicated to patient & family-centered care. Is able to carry out an appropriate plan of care based off assessment, clinical recommendations and requirements in a team- oriented environment for cardiac procedures.

Has the ability to perform medication administration in the safe and compliant manner with standards of nursing practice and monitoring the patient who has received sedation within the procedural care area.

Is able to perform correct documentation in compliance with hospital and nursing standards on appropriate charting systems. Cerner documentation hospital-wide and McKesson or "Change" documentation within the procedural area. Experience preferred but not required.

Continuously evaluates patient condition and has the ability to work and make decisions independently and able to provide education appropriately based off patient circumstances, condition, cultural and spiritual needs.

Ability with training to monitor, identify and appropriately handle pacing protocols with assistance from EP physician on Abbott Workmate.

With training the EP RN will be able to remove and manage site from arterial and venous sheaths

The EP Lab nurse will work closely in a sterile environment with the interdisciplinary team to perform the following procedures:

Permanent Pacemaker Implantation, BivICD, BiV pacemakers and Micra pacemaker

Ablations- Atrial fibrillation/Flutter and Cryo-Ablations

SVT, Ventricular tachycardia

Loop Recorder Watchmen Implantation

• Accurately performs patient assessments and identifies patient needs
• Identifies and initiates appropriate nursing interventions
• Provides care appropriate to condition and age of the patient
• Performs timely and appropriate documentation relating to medical necessity in the medical record
• Responsible for completion and revision of the Interdisciplinary Care Plan for each patient
• Performs timely and accurate QI assessments

Responsibilities:

• Functions as a Scrub Technologist for Adult Cardiac Catheterization, Vascular Catheterization, Cardiac Devices, Pediatric Cardiac Catheterization, Electrophysiology, Neuro Intervention, and/or Structural Heart procedures.

• After obtaining RCIS certification within one year of hire, functions as a Circulator with medication and IV responsibilities for Adult Cardiac Catheterization, Cardiac Devices, Vascular Catheterization, Pediatric Cardiac Catheterization, Electrophysiology, Neuro Intervention, and/or Structural Heart procedures.

• Functions as a Monitoring/Recording Technologist for Adult Cardiac Catheterization, Vascular Catheterization, Cardiac Devices, Pediatric Cardiac Catheterization, Electrophysiology, Neuro Intervention, and/or Structural Heart procedures.

• Supports team cohesiveness and fosters positive customer relationships.

• Responds to and provides emergent care as needed.

• Performs administrative tasks, including ordering supplies, maintaining inventory, coordinating equipment maintenance, and ensuring cleanliness of the laboratory.

• Ensures procedure rooms are prepared and compliant with PHS, local, and federal regulations.

• Adheres to safety standards, including infection control, radiation safety, and environmental practices, and maintains required continuing education.

• Possesses detailed knowledge of cardiovascular anatomy, physiology, disease processes, cardiovascular diagnostic and interventional technologies, human resource considerations, operational budgeting, quality control/assurance, and financial resources. Demonstrates superior troubleshooting skills due to the technical and mechanical nature of the environment and serves as a resource or educator for other cardiovascular practitioners.

• Assesses and interprets patient data to identify age‑specific needs and provide appropriate care for Neonate, Pediatric, Adolescent, Adult, and Geriatric patient groups.

• Independently circulates, scrubs, and records Adult Diagnostic/Interventional procedures and at least three of the following five service areas: Electrophysiology, Pediatrics, Neuro Intervention, Structural Heart, and Vascular.

• Holds responsibility for an assigned area or program (Electrophysiology, Cardiac Devices, Pediatrics, Neuro Intervention, Structural Heart, and/or Vascular) that supports the operation of the Cardiovascular Laboratory (CVL).

Qualifications:

• Associate's degree in Invasive Cardiovascular/Cardiopulmonary Technologist program, radiology, Respiratory therapy, paramedic; Surgical Tech (Certificate must be 1 yr. min program). 3 years of additional experience can be substituted in lieu of degree.

• Additionally, 1 year of adult Cath lab diagnostic and interventional procedure in performing scrubbing, circulating and monitoring and recording duties.

• RCIS or RCES or must be signed up for RCIS test within 18 months of employment and obtained within 2 years of employment. RCES for EP must be signed up for test within 30 months of employment and obtained within 3 years of employment.

• ACLS (PALS is only required at Presbyterian Downtown) is required within the first 6 months.

• Requires detailed knowledge of cardiovascular anatomy, physiology, disease processes and principles of cardiovascular diagnostic and interventional technology.

Scheduler is responsible for providing support services for invasive/noninvasive cardiology services.

• Determines priority on patient care and completes work within appropriate time frame.

What qualifications you will need:

• Advanced Cardiac Life Spt must be obtained within 30 days of employment start date
• Basic Cardiac Life Support must be obtained within 30 days of employment start date
• (RN) Registered Nurse of Texas or compact licensure required 
• Bachelors Degree, or Associate Degree required 
• Cath Lab experience required 
• On Call and must reside within 30 mins from the facility required
