At Houston Methodist, the Physical Therapist II (PT II) position is responsible position is responsible for evaluating and developing the therapy plan of care for a broad range of diagnoses and acuities. This position may specialize in care for certain complex patient types, through advanced training and education. As an experienced therapist, this position provides education to patients, patient's family members, and/or caregivers, and collaborates with other interprofessional team members, as needed, for problem resolution and/or achievement of identified patient specific goals. As a member of the interprofessional care team, the PT II position provides patient care directly and delivers exceptional patient care with adherence to safety standards and guidelines to ensure optimal patient safety, customer service, and optimum patient outcomes. This position serves as preceptor, mentor, and resource to less experienced staff, including other Therapists, and technicians and may act as a clinical resource to students, and clinical fellows. The PT II position assists with collection of quality metrics and analytics, with development of best practices and process improvement initiatives, as designated.

How you support the community.
- Deliver high quality pre hospital and emergency patient care, ensuring a safe and therapeutic environment for patients and families.
- Perform advanced clinical procedures including wound care, splinting/casting, gastric/urethral tube insertion/removal, IV line placement, phlebotomy, and bedside diagnostics (ECG, oximetry, glucose testing, urinalysis).
- Assist with surgical preparation and provider directed procedures such as scrubbing and suturing within documented competencies.
- Administer medications in accordance with Emergency Department protocols and state scope of practice.
- Monitor patient status and maintain accurate electronic medical records, documenting assessments, interventions, and changes in condition.
- Communicate patient updates to nurses, charge staff, providers, and receiving teams; support admissions, transfers, and discharges.
- Maintain emergency equipment and supplies, ensuring readiness and reporting malfunctions promptly.
- Observe and document cardiac rhythms, reporting significant dysrhythmias and coordinating appropriate interventions.
- Support EMS communications and dispatch functions by processing emergent/non emergent calls, coordinating ambulance crew deployment, and maintaining dispatch records.
- Arrange interfacility transfers and direct EMS crews to appropriate ED locations for patient handoff.
- Collaborate effectively with EMS partners and internal teams to support seamless patient care and operational efficiency.

Responsibilities:
- Participates in the provision of patient care based on setting and acuity of patient care needs. Ensures a safe, comfortable, therapeutic environment for patients and families. Organizes care in a manner that contributes to the overall quality of the team.

- May observe patient cardiac monitors and maintains records. Documents and reports any pertinent rate or rhythm changes, especially life threatening dysrhythmias. Informs of any drug treatments as appropriate. Notifies the Nurse immediately of any death producing arrhythmias and documents findings.
- May receive emergent and non-emergent medical telephone calls from internal and external contacts. Ensures equal distribution of arriving patients by team in the ED. Maintains accurate, legible dispatch records for the department.
- Makes transfer arrangements with appropriate EMS transport agency for ED patients needing to be transferred. Directs responding ambulance crews to the appropriate area of the ED for patient transfer.
- Maintains positive communications and collaboration with EMS service line, as well as other internal and external stakeholders.
Qualifications:
Previous EMS Dispatch experience preferred. 2 years ED patient care experience including triage experience preferred. Current NM Paramedic licensure required. National EMD licensure preferred.
Current CPR and ACLS is required. Ability to type 20 wpm preferred. Ability to read, write and follow verbal and written instructions is required.
Detailed Responsibilities for Paramedics in the ED setting: Performs care to ED patients as identified in the Paramedic Scope of Practice policy.
Current license issued by the State of New Mexico Emergency Medical Service Bureau, as a Paramedic, is required. What will you do in this role:
- Assess patient condition during admission and during each shift as scheduled, identifying and reporting any changes in patient status.
- Perform procedures, monitoring, or other functions as ordered by the medical provider(s). Document the administration of care in the patient medical record in a timely and thorough manner.
- Perform the administration of prescribed medications. Monitor patient for therapeutic response. Notify provider and intervene as appropriate in the event of an unintended response to medication.
- Perform exceptional care by responding promptly to patient requests. Strive to anticipate patient needs and resolve them proactively.
- Teach patients, families and caregivers about patient medical condition, patient status, treatment plan, medications and possible side effects, and follow-up measures. Translates complex medical terminology to ensure complete understanding.
What qualifications you will need:
- Basic Cardiac Life Support (BLS) obtained within 30 days of employment
- Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) obtained within 1 year of employment
