Overview

The Director, Design and Supply leads the development of accurate estimates and innovative design solutions for Thermon's heating trace solutions in the Western Hemisphere region. This role ensures that proposals are competitive, technically sound, and aligned with customer requirements while maintaining profitability and compliance with Thermon standards. Responsibilities include recruiting and managing estimating, design teams, setting performance targets, creating enablement programs, and collaborating with internal teams like sales. The role requires strong leadership, strategic planning, data analysis, and relationship-building skills to maximize partner success and achieve revenue goals.

This role reports to the Vice President, Western Hemisphere. You will need to be able and available to work onsite no less than 3 days per week (Typically between Monday-Thursday), at our office located at 8880 Telephone Rd. Houston, TX 77061. Travel availability at least 30% of time, locations (US, Canada, Mexico).

Key Responsibilities and Accountabilities include

  • Leadership & Strategy: Develop and implement estimating and design strategies to support Thermon's growth objectives. Lead and mentor a team of estimators and design engineers, fostering a culture of accuracy, innovation, and collaboration. Establish KPIs for estimating accuracy, design quality, and turnaround times.
  • Estimating Management: Oversee preparation of detailed cost estimates, including materials, labor, and subcontracting. Ensure estimates reflect Thermon's pricing strategies and margin targets. Collaborate with sales and project management teams to support bid proposals and customer presentations.
  • Design Oversight: Direct the design of heat tracing systems, control panels, and related solutions to meet client specifications and industry standards. Ensure compliance with engineering codes, safety regulations, and Thermon quality standards. Drive continuous improvement in design processes and tools (e.g., CAD, modeling software).
  • Cross-Functional Collaboration: Partner with finance, operations, procurement, and manufacturing teams to validate feasibility and optimize cost structures. Support customer engagement during technical reviews and project planning.
  • Risk & Compliance: Identify and mitigate risks in estimates and designs to prevent cost overruns or technical issues. Maintain adherence to Thermon's safety, environmental, and quality policies.

Skills and Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in engineering, Construction Management, or related field; MBA preferred.
  • 10+ years of experience in industrial estimating and design, with at least 5 years in a leadership role.
  • Strong knowledge of heat tracing systems, industrial process heating, and related technologies.
  • Strategic thinking and analytical skills.
  • Excellent leadership and team development abilities.
  • Strong communication and negotiation skills.
  • Detail-oriented with a focus on accuracy and efficiency.
