JOB SUMMARY:
The Fleet Maintenance Mechanic Supervisor is responsible for the oversight, direction, troubleshooting, diagnosis, and high-quality repair of trucks and farm equipment in a maintenance shop environment. This hands-on leadership role oversees all rolling equipment utilized across the complex and oversees the on-site equipment maintenance shop to ensure safe, efficient, and reliable operation of assets.
JOB RESPONSIBILTIES:
Strategic and tactical work for which this position is accountable:
Performance & Technical Responsibilities
- Perform basic and advanced mechanical repairs, troubleshooting, and diagnostics on trucks and agricultural equipment in both shop and field environments.
- Diagnose and repair electronic engine systems using advanced diagnostic tools.
- Maintain working knowledge of multiple makes and models of equipment.
- Travel to remote locations as required to perform repairs.
- Ensure compliance with all DOT rules and regulations.
- Coordinate equipment maintenance activities with other departments to support operational needs.
- Review third party invoices to ensure repair quality, accuracy, and cost effectiveness.
- Partner with third party suppliers to monitor repairs and ensure timely turnaround to maximize asset utilization.
- Communicate repair status, equipment needs, and maintenance priorities to operational leadership.
- Maintain accurate maintenance records, including preventative maintenance schedules and inspection documentation.
- Manage routine and preventative maintenance schedules and communicate updates to leadership.
- Perform additional job-related duties as assigned by the supervisor.
Safety Accountabilities
- Promote safety as the highest priority and follow safe work practices at all times.
- Champion and support safety measures and procedures within the maintenance shop.
- Reinforce safe behaviors and actively identify, address, and eliminate at-risk behaviors.
- Identify and correct unsafe conditions; ensure proper use of tools, materials, and equipment.
- Adhere to standard operating procedures and established technical, quality, and safety systems.
- Assess situations promptly and escalate corrective actions as needed to ensure safe and effective resolution.
Leadership Responsibilities
- Provide leadership, guidance, and direction to the fleet maintenance mechanic team.

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES
- Capabilities and traits essential to perform satisfactorily
- Advanced knowledge in the repair and maintenance of diesel and gas-powered trucks and farm equipment.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office required, Fleet Management software preferred.
- Effective oral/written communication and listening skills.
- Ability to meet work goals and deadlines.
- CDL-A driver’s license preferred or ability to obtain required.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
- High school diploma or GED required, Associates or Bachelor’s degree preferred.
- Five years’ experience as an equipment mechanic required.
- Leadership experience required.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS AND WORK ENVIRONMENT
- This position requires the ability to perform physically demanding tasks in an agricultural setting. Employees must be able to:
- Regularly required to sit, talk, see, hear, walk, stand, bend, and climb.
- Vision abilities required including close vision and working at a computer monitor.
- Must be able to lift and carry up to 50 pounds unassisted on occasion.
- Ability to use fine motor skills when working on equipment.
- May need to work in small spaces, climb ladders, or access elevated areas in the course of work.
- Work long hours in a fast-paced environment, which may include weekends and holidays.
Employees will be exposed to:
- All types of weather, including extreme heat, cold, rain, wind, and dust.
- Loud machinery, farm vehicles, and various equipment/tools (PPE may be required).
- Farm and industrial environment – including noise, dust, odors, manure and varying terrain.
- A dynamic work environment with frequently changing tasks based on project demands.
