Role Description

The Human Resources Associate supports the day-to-day operations of the Human Resources function and helps ensure that company policies, procedures, and employment practices are administered effectively and in compliance with applicable laws and regulations.

This role is responsible for assisting with employee onboarding, HR administration, compliance, benefits coordination, and maintaining accurate employee records. The Human Resources Associate will also help foster a positive workplace culture by supporting employee engagement initiatives and serving as a resource for team members regarding HR policies and procedures.

This position is ideal for an early-career HR professional looking to gain broad experience across multiple HR disciplines within a fast-growing organization.

Key Responsibilities

• Coordinate new hire onboarding and offboarding, including paperwork, system access, and orientation
• Maintain employee records and HR systems (HRIS, personnel files, compliance documentation)
• Assist with benefits administration, enrollments, and employee questions
• Serve as a first point of contact for basic HR questions and escalate more complex issues as needed
• Assist with job posts and recruiting coordination (interview scheduling, candidate communication, offer letter support)
• Support HR programs such as performance reviews, trainings, and engagement initiatives
• Ensure compliance with required employment documentation (I-9s, posters, acknowledgments, etc.)
• Assist leadership with policy implementation and updates (handbooks, SOPs)
• Support documentation related to employee relations matters under guidance
• Help track compliance items (leaves, accommodations, required trainings)
• Coordinate with external HR consultants, legal counsel, or PEOs as needed
• Manage day-to-day office operations, supplies, and vendor relationships
• Coordinate office schedules, meetings, and company-wide events
• Serve as a point of contact for facilities, IT setup coordination, and workplace needs
• Help maintain a welcoming, organized, and efficient office environment
• Support leadership with ad hoc administrative and operational tasks as business needs fluctuate
• Maintain and manage the company’s LinkedIn page, ensuring content is current, professional, and aligned with company initiatives
• Post updates related to hiring, company announcements, team highlights, and workplace culture
• Support employer branding initiatives to help attract qualified candidates and strengthen the company’s professional presence
• Coordinate with marketing or leadership when appropriate to share company milestones, events, and recruitment updates

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or a related field preferred
• 2–3 years of HR, administrative, or operations experience
• Strong organizational and administrative skills
• High attention to detail and accuracy
• Ability to handle confidential information with discretion
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills
• Strong interpersonal skills and ability to work with employees at all levels
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office and HRIS systems preferred
• Experience with HRIS or payroll systems (ADP, Gusto, etc.)
• Familiarity with California employment laws
• Interest in growing within the HR field

Compensation & Work Hours

• Salary range: $45,000 – $60,000 annually, depending on experience.
• Full time (40 hours per week)
• In-person position at our office in Long Beach, CA
• Remote work on Wednesdays

Position Overview

Reporting to the Board of Directors, the Executive Director will provide strategic, operational, and intellectual leadership, ensuring that EHHI continues to produce high-quality research, translate science into policy, and effectively communicate findings to decision-makers and the public.

The Executive Director will oversee all aspects of the organization, including fundraising, program development, external relations, and organizational management, while serving as EHHI’s primary public representative.

Key Responsibilities

Strategic Leadership and Vision

• Work closely with the Board to strengthen governance, planning, and to drive organizational growth and impact.
• Lead the development and implementation of EHHI’s strategic priorities in research, policy advocacy, and public engagement.
• Identify emerging environmental health issues and provide expert advice on how human health risks may be reduced or avoided.
• Engage with the Board to craft significant policy recommendations.

Fundraising

• Build long-term partnerships with new major donors, understanding their values and interests and matching them with EHHI initiatives.
• Introduce best practices in cultivation and stewardship for the current circle of individual donors
• Manage existing relationships with foundations funders; research new foundations that focus on various aspects of our work and write compelling proposals.

Financial Stewardship

• Oversee organizational operations, budgeting, and compliance in alignment with nonprofit best practices.

External Relations and Communications

• Serve as EHHI’s primary spokesperson with policymakers, funders, media, and partner organizations.
• Strengthen EHHI’s visibility and influence through public speaking, op-eds, testimony, and stakeholder engagement.
• Cultivate strategic partnerships with academic institutions, advocacy organizations, and public agencies.

Research and Policy Leadership

• The board will oversee research agenda, ensuring scientific rigor, credibility, and policy relevance.
• Translate complex scientific findings into clear, compelling, accessible policy recommendations and public communications.
• Represent EHHI in legislative, regulatory, academic, and coalition settings at the state and national levels.

Qualifications and Experience

• 7+ years of nonprofit leadership experience, including demonstrated success in major gifts and institutional giving.
• Graduate degree in public health, environmental science, or a related field preferred; candidates from law, government, or business with relevant experience will be considered.
• Strong understanding of budget creation and management.
• Exceptional written and oral communication skills, with the ability to engage diverse stakeholders including researchers, public officials, donors, and impacted communities.

Electro-Mechanical Assembly Technician

JOB DESCRIPTION

• Physically build deliverable sensor systems: assemble mechanical components, solder electronic components, apply coatings to printed circuit boards, install printed circuit boards into sensor housings, precisely cut and strip wiring, mount fasteners, fasten and/or seal electro-mechanical assemblies by applying various bonding and/or sealing agents
• Perform final machining, cutting, or bonding operations on components such as sensor housing, sense elements, fine wires, etc.
• Assemble wiring harnesses and terminate connectors
• Assemble circuit boards, connectors, ribbon cables, jumpers, and other electronic components into custom-built enclosures
• Test sensors and printed circuit boards using a combination of electrical test equipment and LabVIEW-based software scripts
• Participate actively in inventory management and quarterly inventory checks
• Conduct final assembly of sensor systems onto customer driveshafts, including application of sealant, ensuring integrity of the full assembly, and certifying system fitness for homologation
• Participate in failure analyses by dissecting and analyzing hardware returned from the field, conducting diagnostic and validation testing, and comparing with original results.
• Assist in writing and issuing detailed reports outlining findings

Skill Requirements

• At least 2 years of full-time work experience in a related role
• Attention to detail and good craftsmanship, and a strong concern for quality
• Strong electrical and mechanical assembly skills
• Familiarity with wiring harness assembly protocols using AWG 20-gauge harnesses or smaller
• Familiarity with processing adhesives, soldering, and general machine shop skills
• Proficiency with LabVIEW or equivalent software
• Ability to read and interpret mechanical drawings and electrical schematics
• Understanding and knowledge of sensor or instrumentation calibration protocols
