Job Summary and QualificationsWe are seeking a Registered Nurse to join our Nursing Float Pool team. You will provide clinical expertise to ensure all patients receive high quality, efficient care in a high acuity environment. - Previous experience in an acute care setting strongly preferred.
- Current BLS (Basic Life Support) certification required.
- Current ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support) and PALS (Pediatric Advanced Life Support) certifications preferred, required within 6 months of hire/transfer.
- Current PALS (Pediatric Advanced Life Support) and/or ENPC (Emergency Nurse Pediatric Course) certifications preferred, required within 6 months of hire/transfer.
- Current NIHSS (National Institute of Health Stroke Scale) certification preferred, required within 6 months of hire/transfer.
- Trauma Care After Resuscitation, or Trauma Nursing Core Course must be obtained within 1 year of employment start date
- Current CCRN (Critical Care Registered Nurse) or CEN (Certified Emergency Nurse) certification preferred.

Your Impact as an Emergency Veterinarian
As an Emergency Veterinarian, you will be the calm in the storm for pet owners facing their most difficult moments. You will provide critical medical and surgical care to patients in acute distress, utilizing advanced diagnostic and procedural skills to save lives. Working within a collaborative, AAHA-accredited environment, you will have the resources and support needed to practice medicine at the highest level while guiding families through urgent decisions with empathy and clarity.
Your Impact Will Include:- Diagnostic Excellence: You will diagnose and treat complex cases using our full suite of tools, including ultrasound, digital radiography, and in-house labs, ensuring timely and accurate treatment plans.
- Critical Care Management: You will manage hospitalized and critical patients utilizing advanced support systems like Snyder oxygen cages and blood product transfusions.
- Surgical Expertise: You will perform emergency surgical procedures (e.g., GDV, splenectomy, C-section, laceration repair) and advanced soft tissue surgeries using our CO2 laser. Comfort with surgery or a willingness to learn is essential.
- Team Collaboration: You will work closely with a highly skilled medical support team (maintaining a 3:1 support ratio) to direct nursing care and mentor technicians and assistants.
- Balanced Scheduling: You will work a rotating schedule of day, swing, and overnight shifts, averaging 10-14 shifts per month, designed to support a sustainable work-life balance.
- Doctor of Veterinary Medicine (DVM/VMD) degree from an accredited university.
- 1-3 years of veterinary experience is required.
- Active Oregon Veterinary License in good standing.
- Strong surgical and emergency skills are essential.
- Ability to lead by example, maintain composure in high-stress situations, and collaborate effectively.
- Interest and experience in both General Practice and Emergency medicine is a plus.

Christian Hospital is a full-service acute care community hospital located on 28 acres in north St. Louis County. Christian Hospital is noted for its excellence in heart services and lifesaving cardiothoracic surgery, emergency medicine, breast health services, orthopedic/spine surgery, hyperbaric wound care, pain management, vascular surgery, endocrinology, gastrointestinal care, stroke care, nephrology, therapy, radiology, urology, pulmonary care and treating sleep disorders.
Northwest HealthCare, located six miles west of Christian Hospital, provides the community 24-hour emergency care, with Washington University Physicians and St. Louis Children's Hospital providing pediatric services. Northwest HealthCare is also home to the Sleep Disorders Center and a variety of full-service outpatient diagnostic and imaging services in a convenient setting.

Role Purpose
The Graduate Nurse provides direct patient care activities including assessment, diagnosis, planning implementation, and evaluation within the guidelines of the standards of nursing care after completing a nursing program and before licensure. Will be required to obtain licensure within 90 days of graduation from an accredited school of nursing to remain employed in a HSO in the state of Missouri.
Responsibilities
- Educates patients and their families on how to manage their illness or injury, including post treatment home care needs and medication administration.
- Uses critical thinking skills to assess and evaluate patient's physical, psychosocial and emotional needs.
- Develops and implements individual plans of care in collaboration with other members of the healthcare team in accordance with the established guidelines and standards of nursing care. Promotes patient and family centered care in a healing environment.
- Evaluates patient's response and modifies plan of care accordingly throughout the patient's stay.
- Participates in activities that promote patient safety, quality and regulatory compliance. Participates in professional development.
