This is a full-time inpatient pediatrician role, focusing on providing care to newborns and pediatric patients admitted to the hospital. The provider will manage a range of inpatient responsibilities, primarily related to newborn care with some pediatric admissions. The role is critical to maintaining comprehensive care for pediatric patients in a hospital setting.
SCHEDULE:
* 8 hours in-house per day (8:30 AM - 4:30 PM)
* 24/7 coverage with 16 hours of on-call responsibilities
* Typical census: 8-15 newborns per day and 0-2 pediatric patients per day
* Call responsibilities include: Nurse phone consultations, potential admissions from the ED, and attending high-risk deliveries or stabilizing sick newborns (calls come from nurses and/or ER doctors NOT from parents)
SUPPORT & RESOURCES:
* APRN support is provided Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday mornings, especially when census is highest.
* CRNA is available 24/7 for epidurals and urgent/emergent C-sections.
* The nursery, labor & delivery, postpartum unit, and pediatrics are located conveniently on the same floor.
SCOPE OF PRACTICE:
* Typical Census: 8-15 newborns per day / 0-2 pediatric patients per day.
* 90% of inpatient duties involve managing newborns, including nursery coverage.
* 10% of duties involve managing straightforward pediatric admissions such as basic ENT cases.
* No complex subspecialty care or PICU-level cases.
* Procedures Include: Circumcisions, emergency CPAP management, frenotomies, and excision of simple polydactyly. Rare emergency procedures such as intubation, needle decompression of pneumothorax, and UVC placement.
LEVEL OF CARE & TRANSFERS:
* Providers will work in a Level 2 nursery and must attend deliveries as early as 32 weeks gestation.
* High-risk deliveries or newborns needing advanced care, such as mechanical ventilation or neonatal surgery, will be transferred to McLeod (Level 3 NICU) or MUSC (Level 4 NICU).
* McLeod is accessible by ground transport within 2 hours.
* MUSC is reachable via helicopter within 45 minutes.
ADDITIONAL INFORMATION:
* Approximately 1,600 deliveries annually, expected to grow to 1,800-2,000 due to the expansion of the Women s Health department and transfers from Grand Strand Medical Center.
* Cerner EMR.
* 1 full time hospitalist.
* 1 part time hospitalist that helps cover weekends, holidays, and PTO. Also provides additional support on high census days if needed.

POSITION OVERVIEW: Outpatient role with some inpatient responsibilities Standard office hours (Mon-Fri / 8am-5pm) Protected administrative time (8 hours per week) Practice Call Schedule: Shared call schedule, 1:4 rotation for patient care needs through telephone calls also supported by after-hours nurse triage.
Support Staff: The physician will have a team consisting of their own clinic support staff, an APP, and a robust specialized oncology nursing team.
4 Physicians and 3 APPs Cerner EMR with Dragon dictation + Ambient AI for charting Visit types: Initial cancer diagnosis, treatment planning, chemotherapy follow-ups, and management of hematologic conditions like anemia and clotting disorders.
Adult patient population with a broad range of cancers and hematologic disorders Procedures: Bone marrow biopsies, port insertions, etc.
Approximate case mix of 40 percent oncology and 60 percent hematology, with flexibility based on physician experience and interests FACILITIES & SUPPORT: Clinic/Facility: 10-chair infusion center, onsite lab and pharmacy, two additional infusion centers on campus (1 general/1 rheumatology) Imaging/Diagnostics: PET scanning, 64-slice CT, 3-D mammography, breast MRI, high-definition endoscopy/bronchoscopy Tumor Boards: Bi-weekly for breast, PCC, GI, and ENT Surgical Referrals: Includes breast, colorectal, and vascular; Bone marrow transplants referred to Charleston (MUSC or Roper St Francis) ACGME Accredited: Medical students, Family Medicine Residency, transitional year, Sports Medicine Fellowship program Research & Trials: Currently no active clinical trials; aligned with Duke for access to approximately 450 protocols Currently undergoing submission to become accredited by The American College of Surgeons Commission on Cancer.

Job Description/Summary: The Respiratory Therapist at MUSC Midlands provides advanced respiratory care to patients with a variety of respiratory conditions. This role involves performing diagnostic tests, administering treatments, and working closely with physicians and other healthcare professionals to develop and implement patient care plans. The Respiratory Therapist ensures the delivery of high-quality, evidence-based care to patients of all ages.
Key Responsibilities
Patient Assessment and Care
Conduct thorough assessments of patients' respiratory conditions through physical examinations and diagnostic tests.
Develop and implement individualized treatment plans based on patient assessments and physician directives.
Administer respiratory therapies, including oxygen therapy, nebulizer treatments, chest physiotherapy, and mechanical ventilation.
Monitor and adjust ventilator settings and other respiratory support devices as needed.
Diagnostic Testing
Perform pulmonary function tests to assess lung capacity and efficiency.
Conduct arterial blood gas (ABG) analysis to evaluate oxygenation and acid-base balance.
Utilize advanced diagnostic equipment to identify and monitor respiratory disorders.
Emergency and Critical Care
Provide respiratory support in emergency situations, including cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) and advanced airway management.
Participate in the care of critically ill patients in the intensive care unit (ICU), ensuring optimal respiratory function and support.
Assist in the transport of critically ill patients, maintaining stability during transfers.
Education and Training
Educate patients and their families on respiratory care techniques, equipment usage, and disease management.
Provide training and support to nursing staff and other healthcare professionals on respiratory care practices and procedures.
Stay current with the latest advancements in respiratory care through continuing education and professional development.
Compliance and Safety
Adhere to all MUSC Midlands policies and procedures, as well as state and federal regulations related to respiratory care.
Follow infection control protocols to maintain a safe and hygienic environment for patients and staff.
Ensure proper maintenance and calibration of respiratory equipment.

Multi-modality technologist provides quality imaging and patient care within two or more imaging modalities. Technologists must be able to effectively explain the procedures to the patient and be sure they are competent in the procedure being performed. Technologists must produce images for the interpretation, and or request of, a licensed practitioner.Graduate from an accredited school of radiologic technology and two year of radiologic experience in two or more modalities. Must be registered with the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT), and licensed by the South Carolina Radiation Quality Standards Association in both Radiography & CT. Must be able to produce very high-quality special imaging with little supervision. Must be able to function effectively in a team-oriented environment. Must be familiar with age specific criteria.Current Basic Life Support (BLS) required, either a certification from an American Heart Association (AHA) BLS for Healthcare Providers (or AHA recognized equivalent) or an American Red Cross CPR/AED for Professional Rescuer and Healthcare Provider.
