The Scientific Computing and Data group at the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai partners with scientists to accelerate scientific discovery. To achieve these aims, we support a cutting-edge high-performance computing and data ecosystem along with MD/PhD-level support for researchers. The group is composed of a high-performance computing team, the research clinical data warehouse team and a research data services team.


The Senior HPC Administrator, High Performance Computational and Data Ecosystem, is responsible for a computational and data science ecosystem for researchers at Mount Sinai. This ecosystem includes high-performance computing (HPC) systems, clinical research databases, and a software development infrastructure for local and national projects. To meet Sinai’s scientific and clinical goals, the Senior Administrator has a good technical understanding for computational, data and software development systems along with a strong focus on customer service for researchers. The HPC Senior Administrator is an expert troubleshooter and productive team member and leads projects to effective and efficient completion independently under little to no supervision. This position reports to the Director for Computational & Data Ecosystem in Scientific Computing. Specific responsibilities are listed below.

  • Design, deploy and maintain Scientific Computing’s computational and data science ecosystem including ~30,000 cores with high bandwidth, low latency interconnects, GPUs, large shared memory nodes, databases, scientific workflows and 30+ petabytes of storage in production, clinical data warehouse and software development environment.
  • Lead the troubleshooting, isolation and resolution of all technical issues including application, system, hardware, software, and network). Actively monitors the systems.
  • Maintains, tunes and manages computational, data, cloud technologies and workflow systems for ISMMS researchers, scientists and their external collaborators. Defines and deploys a comprehensive computational and data vision. Identifies and communicates system advantages/disadvantages and tradeoffs.
  • Designs, develops, implements system administration tasks, including hardware and software configuration, configuration management, system monitoring (including the development and maintenance of regression tests), usage reporting, system performance (file systems, scheduler, interconnect, high availability, etc.), security, networking and metrics, etc.
  • Collaborates effectively with research and hospital system IT, compliance, HIPAA, security and other departments to ensure compliance with all regulations and Sinai policies.
  • Participates in the integration of HPC resources with laboratory equipment such as sequencers, clinical and research data resources and systems, etc. Incorporate and link data and compute resources.
  • Researches, deploys and optimizes resource management and scheduling software and policies and actively monitoring. Designs, tunes, manages and upgrades parallel file systems, storage and data-oriented resources.
  • Researches, deploys and manages security infrastructure, including development of policies and procedures.
  • Maintain all necessary aspects of HPC in accordance with best practices. Develops and implements backup policies.
  • Prepares and manages budgets for hardware, software and maintenance. Participates in chargeback/fee recovery analysis and provides suggestions to make operations sustainable.
  • Assists in developing and writing system design for research proposals. Creates and provides clear documentation.

Qualifications:


  • Bachelor's degree in computer science, engineering or another scientific field. Master's or PhD preferred
  • 8+ years (higher preferred) of progressive HPC system administration and operations (preferably in a Redhat/CentOS Linux administration, Batch HPC cluster environment)
  • Must be an expert troubleshooter; Must be a team player and customer focused

The Practice

Adventist Health Lodi Memorial – Lodi, California

  • A 214-bed hospital which supports 10 med/surg ICU beds and six (6) ORs.
  • The group staffs multiple outpatient facilities, all within a short drive of the hospital.
  • In-house OB.
  • The pediatric population is healthy, and the laboring patients are generally low risk.
  • The surgical staff is facile with the two daVinci robots onsite, taking the next step in laparoscopic surgery.
  • Same-day surgery cases for additional positions that dilute the call burden.
  • Case mix includes orthopedics, general surgery, gynecological surgery, urology, ENT, and labor & delivery.
  • No trauma, no cardiac, and no neurosurgery. No pressure to publish. There are no take back hearts or strokes for clot retrieval.
  • Minor trauma (i.e., ground level falls) and while there are emergencies, they tend to be urgent, not emergent.

Position Summary
The Director of Community & Systems Engagement is a senior leadership position responsible for advancing regional
population health outcomes through coordinated systems change, policy alignment, and cross-sector collaboration. The
Director of Community & Systems Engagement plays a critical role in moving communities from fragmented efforts to coordinated action. By aligning data, partners, programs, policy, and messaging, this role helps ensure that regional strategies lead to meaningful, sustainable improvements in population health and equity. Reporting directly to the Deputy Executive Officer, the Director of Community & Systems Engagement leverages health assessments, data, and community-identified priorities to design and steward strategies that strengthen systems, improve equity, and address complex population health needs.
This role functions as a systems integrator and backbone leader, convening and guiding regional working groups, aligning partners around shared goals, and translating assessment findings into actionable strategies, policy recommendations, and sustainable system improvements. The Director also provides strategic leadership and supervision for communications, development, and regional health connector functions to ensure alignment between strategy, messaging, community engagement, and resource development. This Director of Community & Systems Engagement directly supervises the Communications & Development Manager and may supervise others as assigned.

Education and Experience
Required
- Master's degree in public health, public administration, social work, health policy, or a related field (or
equivalent experience)
- 5+ years of progressive experience in population health, health systems, public health, or cross-sector
initiatives
- Demonstrated experience leveraging health assessments and data to inform strategy and systems change
- Proven ability to convene and lead cross-sector working groups or collaboratives
- Experience supervising managers and leading multidisciplinary teams
- Strong understanding of health equity, social determinants of health, and community-based systems
Preferred
- Experience working within or alongside Medicaid, public health agencies, or regional health alliances
- Familiarity with policy development, advocacy, or regulatory environments affecting population health
- Experience integrating communications, development, or public-facing strategies into programmatic work
- Background in rural, frontier, or safety-net health systems

Job Responsibilities
Community Collaboration, Relationship Building, Cross Sector Partnership Networks
- Build and maintain collaborative relationships with cross sector partnerships including county agencies, local
hospitals and emergency departments, primary care practices, criminal justice partners, law enforcement
agencies, first responders, other service providers
- Facilitation and support of regional collaboratives to develop, implement and mobilize strategies geared
towards improved health outcomes
- Leverage cross-sector partnerships to design and deliver high-impact regional convenings that advance
shared population health goals and strengthen system alignment
- Targeted outreach and relationship building with community partners and other resources

Community-Facing Events & Regional Convenings
- Provide strategic leadership and project management for community-facing health events, including
planning, coordination, implementation, and post-event evaluation, in alignment with regional population
health priorities
- Lead the organization and execution of the annual regional conference, serving as the primary internal lead
responsible for overall vision, scope, timelines, partner coordination, and successful delivery
- Coordinate closely with regional partners to co-design event content, identify speakers, align messaging, and
ensure events reflect shared priorities, community voice, and evidence-informed practices
o Collaborate internally with the Deputy Executive Officer (DEO), Program Managers - Addiction
Response & Care Management Teams,(PM-ART), Executive Administrative Assistant (EAA), and
Senior Director of Access & Navigation (SDAN) to align logistics, program content, staffing,
communications, and systems integration
- Oversee event workplans, timelines, and roles across internal teams and external partners to ensure
accountability, clear ownership, and timely execution
- Ensure community-facing events and the annual conference are inclusive, accessible, equity-centered, and
responsive to regional needs, particularly in rural and underserved communities
- Lead post-event debriefs and evaluations to capture lessons learned, measure impact, and inform
continuous improvement for future convenings

Population Health Stategy & Assessment
- Lead the interpretation and application of community health assessments, population health data, and
regional needs assessments to inform strategic priorities
- Translate quantitative and qualitative data into actionable population health strategies and system-level
interventions
- Identify emerging trends, gaps, and opportunities across health, behavioral health, public health, and social
systems
- Ensure population health strategies are grounded in equity, community voice, and lived experience

Regional Systems Change & Policy Advocacy
- Design and lead regional systems change initiatives that address identified population health needs
- Support Deputy Executive Officer in policy identification/tracking, analysis, development, and advocacy
strategies in partnership with internal leadership, board of directors, and external stakeholders
- Align regional strategies with local, state, and federal policy environments, funding streams, and regulatory
requirements
- Support the development of shared frameworks, agreements, and policies that improve coordination,
access, and outcomes across systems

Backbone & Working Group Leadership
- Convene, facilitate, and guide regional working groups and cross-sector collaboratives aligned to priority
population health areas
- Establish clear purpose, governance, decision-making structures, and accountability for regional initiatives
- Support partners in moving from planning to implementation through shared metrics, timelines, and
coordinated action
- Serve as a trusted neutral convener capable of navigating diverse perspectives, priorities, and power
dynamics
Program Oversight & Integration
- Provide strategic oversight and integration of programs that support regional population health goals,
including the Regional Health Connector Program
- Ensure alignment between direct service, navigation, and system-level strategies

Communications, Messaging & Resource Alignment
- Supervise the Communications & Development Manager & Regional Health Connector to ensure internal

Responsibilities

Supervises operations for a health unit coordinator team within a department/division/section/unit in alignment with the institutional mission, vision, and objectives. Serves as a key member of the department/division/section/unit leadership team with a primary focus on planning and implementation of policies, procedures, and processes that facilitate efficient practices in compliance with applicable rules, regulations, and accrediting standards. Able to confidently interact with leadership at various levels in a professional manner. Identifies and analyzes operational/practice improvement opportunities, develops ideas for improvements, and implements changes. Routinely spends approximately half of time leading and/or facilitating department/division/section/unit projects including analysis, problem solving, collaboration, and implementation; may also participate on institutional projects. Responsible for the supervision, coordination, adherence of institutional and departmental policies, procedures, processes, guidelines, best practices, and quality and service expectations; and overall performance of administrative support team. Provides daily leadership, task direction, orientation, education, mentoring, and operational problem solving to staff. Accountable for appropriate staffing to meet the needs of the department/division/section/unit and regulates and adjusts staffing levels in accordance with fluctuating workload and department/division/section/unit priorities. Performs duties independently, uses judgment in handling a variety of supervisory issues, and can effectively use resources to solve problems. Qualifications

Position requires a high school diploma and five years relevant work experience, or an associate with three years of relevant work experience. A bachelors degree is preferred. Requires strong verbal and written communication skills and ability to work collaboratively with multiple disciplines. Demonstrated skills in change management, team building, conflict management, process improvement, human relations, coaching, and mentoring.  

Possess high-level skills in interpersonal relations, customer service, professionalism, and organization, along with the ability to prioritize, frequently and quickly shift tasks, and adapt to a rapidly changing environment. Demonstrate effective and appropriate decision-making, judgment, and confidentiality, attention to detail, and follow-through. Prefer experience in project management and continuous process improvement and work-related experience.
