Responsibilities

Surface Warfare Officers (SWOs) are involved in virtually every aspect of Navy missions. As a SWO, you may be in charge of any number of shipboard operations and activities while at sea, working with or within any of these specialized forces:

Aircraft Carrier Forces: Provide and coordinate air, submarine and surface ship defense for aircraft carriers.

Cruiser-Destroyer Forces: Provide ship attack and defensive measures with a wide array of missile and fire power capabilities, providing anti-air, -submarine and -surface warfare support.

Amphibious Forces: Embark and transport vehicles, equipment and personnel for amphibious assault operations.

Combat-Logistics Forces: Provide combatant ships with fuel, ammunition, food and supplies, and provide repair, maintenance and rescue capabilities through Fleet Support Ships.

Mine Warfare Forces: Detect, identify and neutralize threats from hostile use of maritime mines.

Work Environment

As a Surface Warfare Officer, you will work at sea and on shore, in a variety of environments. Sea duty could place you aboard ships within the fleet. Shore duty may involve a tour of duty at the Pentagon, a student assignment at the Naval Postgraduate School in Monterey, CA, or command and management positions at shore bases and stations around the world.

Training & Advancement

Those pursuing an Information Professional Officer position are required to attend Officer Candidate School (OCS) in Newport, RI.

Unless they have already been commissioned through the Naval Academy or ROTC, those pursuing a Surface Warfare Officer position are required to attend Officer Candidate School. Newly commissioned SWOs can expect an advanced training process that includes comprehensive training at sea and ashore.

Newly commissioned Surface Warfare Officers will be assigned to a surface ship, leading a team of Sailors responsible for a component of the ship - anything from electronics to weapons to engineering systems. In this setting, Officers are working toward full Surface Warfare qualification.

After completing these initial sea tours, Surface Warfare Officers may be selected to serve on high-level staffs, commands or strategic projects or they may be selected to work in recruitment. The ultimate goal for many: to one day command their own ship.

Promotion opportunities are regularly available but competitive and based on performance.

Qualifications & Requirements

A degree from a four-year college or university is a minimum educational requirement to become a Commissioned Officer.

There are different ways to become a SWO. If you're a high school student or an undergraduate, you can enter through the Naval Reserve Officers Training Corps (NROTC) or through the U.S. Naval Academy. Those already having a degree attend Officer Candidate School (OCS), a 12-week Navy school in Newport, RI.

All candidates must also be U.S. Citizens.

General qualifications may vary depending upon whether you're currently serving, whether you've served before or whether you've never served before.

Part-Time Opportunities

There are part-time opportunities available as a Surface Warfare Officer.

Serving part-time as a Navy Reserve Sailor, your duties will be carried out during your scheduled drilling and training periods. During monthly drilling, Surface Warfare Officers in the Navy Reserve typically work at a location close to their homes.

For annual training, Surface Warfare Officers may serve anywhere in the world, whether on a ship at sea or at bases and installations on shore.

Most of what you do in the Navy Reserve is considered training. The basic Navy Reserve commitment involves training a minimum of one weekend a month (referred to as drilling) and two weeks a year (referred to as Annual Training) - or the equivalent of that.

Surface Warfare Officers in the Navy Reserve serve in an Officer role. Before receiving the ongoing professional training that comes with this job, initial training requirements must first be met.

For current or former Navy Officers (NAVET): Prior experience satisfies the initial leadership training requirement - so you will not need to go through Officer Training again.

Officers who previously held a commission in another United States Military Service, National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration, Public Health Service, or United States Coast Guard are exempt from attending ODS or LDO/CWO Academy.

AVIATION RESCUE SWIMMER: CAREER DETAILS & REQUIREMENTS

Responsibilities

Aviation Rescue Swimmers are tasked with entering treacherous conditions to assist with rescue missions, humanitarian assistance, and operational support. One day you may be evacuating families on the other side of the globe amidst a catastrophic storm, and the next day rescuing the crew of a ship off the Pacific coast or saving a mountain climber hanging from an inaccessible cliff.

Depending on your role, duties may include:

• Coordinating with pilots as an Aircrewman aboard helicopters
• Saving the crew of downed aircraft, people aboard stranded or capsized vessels at sea, or hikers and mountain climbers in danger
• Rescuing civilians during natural disasters in collaboration with other forces such as the Coast Guard

Work Environment

As an AIRR, you will operate in almost every type of extreme environment and may be assigned to Helicopter Sea Combat (HSC) or Helicopter Maritime Strike Squadrons (HSM) sea or shore duty in any part of the world. You could be assigned to squadrons at Naval Air Stations and may deploy aboard aircraft carriers, surface combat ships and support ships.

Training & Advancement

Aviation Rescue Swimmers must be prepared to operate in any challenging environment. It's why two years of training in advanced swimming and lifesaving techniques, helicopter mission equipment and helicopter weapons systems are required before you report to your first squadron. Throughout training, candidates are continually tested mentally and physically as they advance to more rigorous and challenging scenarios.

Upon completion of initial training at Recruit Training Command Great Lakes (known as Boot Camp), those pursuing an Aircrewman role undergo the following training pipeline:

Aviation Rescue Swimmer School Prep Course (2 weeks) in Pensacola, FL.

Aircrew Candidate School (4 weeks) in Pensacola, FL, to learn Naval Aviation fundamentals, intermediate water survival, aviation physiology and advanced water survival.

Rescue Swimmer School (6 weeks) in Pensacola, FL, to learn search and rescue techniques.

Class "A" Technical School (8-14 weeks) in Pensacola, FL, learning one of the Aircrew Ratings (AWF, AWO, AWS, AWR, AWV).

SERE School (2 weeks) in North Island, CA, or Portsmouth, NH, to train in Survival, Evasion, Resistance and Escape (SERE) techniques.

Fleet Replacement Squadrons (28-52 weeks) location dependent on aircrew rating in one of five locations (Jacksonville, FL, Norfolk, VA, San Diego, CA, Oklahoma City, OK, Ft Worth, TX) for basic flight and aircraft weapons systems training.

After graduation, an AIRR may be assigned to a helicopter command at sea or on shore duty in various locations throughout the world, Japan, Guam, Spain, or the continental US including San Diego, CA, Norfolk, VA, Jacksonville, FL, Fallon, NV, Whidbey Island, WA, Key West, FL and many others.

Advanced Education & Training

Based on performance and the needs of the Navy, you could potentially be eligible to receive additional training in:

• Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) training

Members of the Naval Special Warfare community have any number of unique opportunities to advance their knowledge. Navy training provides skills and knowledge in everything from military tactics and small arms use to survival and a number of other tactical military procedures.

Beyond offering access to professional credentials and certifications, Navy training in this field can translate to credit hours toward a bachelor's or associate degree through the American Council on Education.

You may also continue your education through undergraduate degree opportunities like the Navy College Program and Tuition Assistance and the Post-9/11 GI Bill.

Qualifications & Requirements

No college degree is required to become an AIRR, but a high degree of difficulty comes standard with nearly everything you'll do. Training is tough and ongoing. You should be in excellent physical condition and a strong swimmer.

To qualify for Rescue Swimmer Training, both men and women must:

• Meet specific eyesight requirements: uncorrected vision no worse than 20/100; correctable to 20/20 in both eyes with normal depth and color perception
• Meet the minimum Armed Services Vocational Aptitude Battery (ASVAB) score: VE+AR+MK+MC=210 or VE+AR+MK+AS=210
• Pass a PST in DEP/Boot Camp
• Pass Class 1 Flight Physical
• Be 30 years of age or younger
• Must be a U.S. citizen and eligible for security clearance

Position title:
Instructor (Non-Senate, Non-Tenure Track)

Salary range:
The compensation model varies depending upon the course delivery format. For a synchronous Live Online course, a reasonable estimate for this position is $3,000 -$4,000 total per course. For an asynchronous Start Anytime Online course, this position is paid $165 per final student course grade submitted each month; a reasonable estimate ranges from $660 - $21,285 total per course; and monthly payments typically begin within 6 months after the course start date. Instructor compensation is determined by course length, number of units, enrollment, budgetary considerations, and other factors.

Percent time:
Part-time by agreement on a course-by-course basis.

General Duties

This role will cover a significant amount of travel coordination, logistics, and calendar management for the team they are supporting. This position will pay 85-95K base, depending on level and relevant experience.
Responsibilities

• Manage complex calendars for senior professionals, including scheduling meetings and coordinating logistics (conference rooms, security, and catering)
• Prepare for meetings by gathering and distributing materials
• Coordinate travel arrangements, including transportation and hotel bookings
• Process expense reports and maintain accurate records
• Maintain and update CRM/database information
• Monitor and manage email communications as needed
• Provide administrative support on team and departmental projects

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree required
• 2–4 years of administrative or executive support experience
• Strong interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills
• Highly organized with strong attention to detail
• Proactive, reliable, and service-oriented with a positive attitude
• Proficiency in Microsoft Outlook, Excel, and Word

Position Overview – Events Manager (Contractor/Remote)

The Contractor shall provide event management support for Mplify’s Global NaaS Events Series, a year-round member engagement platform which includes two Summits (EMEA, Americas) virtual events/webinars and regional workshops. This position works in close collaboration with the Director Global Events. The scope of services includes the following responsibilities:

Responsibilities

Project Management

•       Support the Director Global Events with end-to-end planning, coordination, and execution of two Mplify Summits (EMEA and Americas), virtual events and regional workshops, ensuring all components are delivered on schedule and in alignment with event objectives

•       Maintain and manage detailed event project plans via web-based tool Teams Planner

•       Provide event costs for approval against budget (F&B, AV, hotel, travel,vendors) to ensure we stay within budget and events are profitable.

•       Assist with cost oversight and potential reduction mechanisms to ensure the event meets financial goals

•       Track all milestones, deadlines, and action items across workstreams to ensure timely delivery

Sponsor Management

•       Serve as liaison to Series sponsors, providing timely communication on sponsor package inclusions, milestone deadlines, co-marketing kits, logistics. 15-20 sponsors

•       Maintain tracker excel document with contact information and sponsor level inclusions

•       Coordinate sponsor logistics such as merchandise, meeting room/table assignments, signage needs, and shipments on-site

Program Management

•       Own and manage all aspects of program agenda development and maintenance for the two Summits, virtual events and regional workshops. This includes working closely with the Mplify team and sponsors for session input. Maintains programs and ensures tracking session changes, speakers, and program elements are accurately reflected and updated in real-time across all event platforms

•       Coordinate and schedule executive-level speaker calls to confirm participation, session objectives. Prepare call agendas in advance, capture detailed notes, document action items, and ensure timely follow-up on all commitments and deliverables.

•       Maintain and continuously update the speaker tracking docs and ensure information is accurate

•       Collect, review and manage all speaker assets (headshots, bios, presentation titles) for the website and updated in Cvent event app

Vendor Management

•       Hotel

•       Cvent Registration and App platform

•       Digital signage suppliers

•       Entertainment providers (DJ, awards dinner emcee, other)

Hotel Management

•       Manage hotel master room block, monitor & produce registration reports.

•       Oversee implementation of contractual concessions.

•       Create F&B menus, BEO’s in alignment with the approved budget and cost-savings objectives

•       Coordinate on-site logistics including meeting room set-ups, F&B services, opening party, happy hours, leadership dinner, awards gala dinner, on-site registration set-up

Internal Collaboration

•       Work closely with the Director Global Events and marketing team on event-related activities and communications.

•       Communicate key project deadlines to internal stakeholders to ensure timely execution

•       Participate in and contribute to weekly planning calls and other team meetings as needed
