Job Description

Thompson Hine LLP, an AmLaw 200 firm consistently recognized for our Innovation, Inclusion, and collaborative culture, is seeking an experienced Financial Systems Analyst to join our team in the following locations: Atlanta, Chicago, Cincinnati, Cleveland, Columbus, Dayton, and Minneapolis. The primary purpose of the position will be the administration of the time and billing system and other financial systems.


The Financial Systems Analyst is responsible for the day-to-day administration and the support, analysis and continuous improvement efforts for the suite of financial systems used by the Finance Department. The Financial Systems Analyst ensures the administration of the system is handled efficiently and effectively by taking timely action to resolve service desk requests; manage routine systems configuration and maintenance; respond to business questions and perform root cause analysis of any issues.


This position is in IS and works closely with Finance, Accounting and Risk Teams.


ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES


  • Responsible for administration of financial systems including billing, expenses, user security, template design, report development, report books, screen design
  • Lead system implementations, upgrades, integrations (e.g., with Intapp, NetDocuments), and process automation initiatives, table changes, changes to parameters and configuration settings.
  • Ensure data integrity and balance financial systems. Minimize system downtime.
  • Plan, design, manage, and implement projects relating to the budget system and other financial systems.
  • Build and maintain SQL queries, stored procedures, and database views to support reporting and automation needs.
  • Manage relationships with various software vendors.
  • Develop and design financial statements and reports.
  • Work on department or firm-level projects where necessary.
  • Research available competitive information and use to identify areas for improvement; develop recommendations based upon findings.
  • Other duties as assigned.


QUALIFICATIONS

Education, Training and/or Experience

  • High School diploma or equivalent required.
  • BA/BS in Finance or Computer Science preferred.
  • At least five years relative experience.
  • A background in law firms is required particularly with experience using the Aderant software suite.


Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

Individuals must possess the following knowledge, skills and abilities, or be able to explain and demonstrate that the individual can perform the essential functions of the job, with or without reasonable accommodations through some other combination of skills and abilities.


  • Proven expertise with Aderant (Expert or Sierra), BillBlast, Expert Image, and Intapp.
  • Experience with docketing applications such as CompuLaw, Milana, Pattsy or CPI helpful but not required.
  • Strong knowledge of the legal billing system including prebills, templates, workflows, and electronic billing
  • Comprehension of system administration, business processes, user security, user support, project management, balancing, and the concept of database table structures.
  • The individual should have knowledge of databases or other reporting and analytical software (SSRS, PowerBI, Xcelerate).
  • The individual will have an advanced understanding of a) data types and functions, specifically including text and lookup functions and b) data structures, including the concept of tables, queries, reports, views, etc.; knowledge of SQL required.
  • This person will act as part of a team and help out whenever possible recognizing the priority is for the team to deliver information timely and accurately.
  • Manage vendor relationships such as ticket escalation, review of version notes and advise the group on upgrades.
  • Experience with Expert Administration, Design Studio and Aderant database tools.
  • Ability to work extra hours as needed.
  • Regular attendance and punctuality are essential functions of this job.
  • Excellent customer service skills and telephone etiquette are mandatory.
  • Possesses interpersonal skills necessary in order to communicate effectively with a diverse group of employees.
  • Ability to handle tasks under pressure.
  • Ability to adjust work schedule to work other hours, as required.


Compensation is determined upon the market in which the position is located, the responsibilities of the position, the experience and skills of the applicant, and other job-related factors. The estimated salary ranges for Cleveland are $88,000 to $110,000 and Chicago are $93,000 to $117,000.
