We are seeking a Transitional Youth Behavioral Health Specialist to join our team. Your role will oversee clients in daily activities while teaching new skills, ensuring safety, and managing behaviors. As a member of the Pathways team, you will work with other team members and report to our Program Manager.



WHAT YOU WILL DO:




  • Responsible for direct supervision and safety of all clients
  • Responsible for proper behavior management of children through the use of behavior management techniques.
  • Build healthy relationships with clients and be a role model of healthy behaviors
  • Have a working knowledge of the child's treatment plan and objectives and structure activities to support that plan.
  • Responsible for creatively structuring activities for groups and conducting psycho-educational groups.
  • May be responsible for medication administration and other medical support.
  • Responsible for the review/writing of all required documentation.
  • Responsible for teaching, guiding, and assisting the client in daily life skills as appropriate for age.


WHAT YOU WILL BRING:



Our ideal candidate will have 2 years of relevant experience working with children and the following:




  • At least 21 years of age and pass background check, physical, and drug screening
  • A valid driver's license, proof of current vehicle insurance, and reliable transportation

QUALIFICATIONS
Required: Master's degree in a mental health-related field, plus a clinical license (Licensed Clinical Social Worker, Professional Clinical Counselor, Marriage and Family Therapist, Psychologist, or Registered Nurse); Knowledge of psychiatric disorders and psychotropic medications; Strong written and verbal communication skills, including proficiency in computer applications and electronic documentation; Culturally competent and the ability to work effectively in a diverse team environment. Group psychotherapy experience and facilitation skills.
Drivers license for at least two years and driving record acceptable to insurance carrier.
Valid California driver's license; auto in safe operating condition; auto liability insurance; good driving record; criminal record clearance; proof of authorization to work in the United States as required by Immigration and Reform Act of 1986. Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
1. Conduct thorough clinical assessments to support treatment planning, monitor progress, and evaluate client needs throughout the course of care.
2. Provide individual, group, and adjunct psychotherapy using evidence-based practices, including but not limited to Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT), and Motivational Interviewing (MI). Listen, respond empathically, and engage in problem-solving. Identify symptoms and assist clients in self-management skills for mental illness and substance abuse.
3. Facilitate therapeutic and psychoeducational groups that provide clients with the opportunity to gain skills and learning in areas of basic living, substance use recovery, and interpersonal relationships/communication through a variety of evidence-based practices.
4. Counsel clients individually to set, track, and achieve rehabilitation and recovery goals.
5. Identify, assess, and respond to crisis situations. Set clear limits and ensure that both clients and the facility are safe.
6. Establish and maintain linkage with other social service, health, and behavioral health agencies, including Interim and Monterey County Behavioral Health (MCBH) psychiatrists and case coordinators.
7. Maintain timely, accurate, and clinically sound documentation in accordance with Medi-Cal, HIPAA, and agency requirements, including treatment plans, progress notes, and assessments.
8. Meet productivity and performance standards established by the program and agency.
9. Ability to remain flexible and adaptable to program needs, including temporary and/or reassignment to the Coordination team in a Behavioral Health Clinician II (BHC II) capacity, as determined by agency leadership.
10. Perform other duties as assigned by the Program Director.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
Ability to: operate a motor vehicle; climb stairs; possess good communication skills; meet the requirements of the classification and have mobility, vision, hearing and dexterity levels appropriate to the duties to be performed. Capable of the following extended activities: standing, sitting, stooping, climbing stairs. The salary range for this role is $60,000 to $76,000 annually based on full-time employment. The overall purpose of the Behavioral Health Care Advocate is to improve the enrollee’s ability to remain stable in the community and out of the hospital. Care Advocates engage people in the treatment process and assist them to access the appropriate community services so they can pursue their treatment goals in the community and avoid institutionalization. - Under the direction of an RN, provide patient observation as designated constant, q 5 minutes, q 10minutes, q15 minutes, q30 minutes.  Assumes assignment for ICA rotation as appropriate.

- Participates in the delivery of patient care for patients 14 years and up under the direction of the RN including, but not limited to toileting, feeding, washing hair, range of motion exercises, mobilizing patients, transfers, and ambulation.

- Performs and records temperature, pulse, respirations, blood pressures and weights for patients 14 years and over.

- Facilitate or assist with group and therapeutic activities as assigned.

- Inventory and assure disposition of patient’s belongings when admitted, discharged, or transferred.

- Obtains urine, stool and sputum specimens for adolescent, adult, and geriatric populations.

- Transports patients, serves and retrieves trays, distributes water pitchers, orders and distributes nourishment.

- Assist with Admission, Discharge and Transfer within the Electronic Medical System.

- Assist in Monitoring Patients during scheduled visitation.

- Assists in the application of restraints according to policy.

Other Duties: 

1) The staff member must be able to assist with the orientation process of new division personnel. The staff member is expected to attend and participate in unit council meetings. The staff member will demonstrate knowledge of and act according to established safety protocols. Consistently utilizes universal precaution techniques for all patient interactions.

This position ensures that each residential site operates with the highest standards of quality, safety, and regulatory compliance, while maintaining fidelity to the organization’s mission and values. The Operations Manager is directly responsible for operational oversight, staff performance, fiscal management, and the consistent delivery of person centered supports. This role demands a strong balance of strategic leadership and hands on management to ensure that individuals served experience safety, dignity, and meaningful community engagement.


Key Responsibilities

Leadership, Oversight, and Accountability

  • Provide strategic and operational leadership to all Community Living programs, ensuring consistent delivery of high-quality, person-centered services.
  • Oversee day-to-day operations including staffing, scheduling, and program management to ensure efficiency, compliance, and fiscal responsibility.
  • Establish and monitor performance metrics to ensure accountability at every level of program operations.
  • Conduct regular program audits, site visits, and documentation reviews to ensure compliance with agency policy, Department of Mental Health (DMH) regulations, and accreditation standards.
  • Manage investigations, grievances, and incident follow-up with professionalism, timeliness, and transparency.


Program Quality and Compliance

  • Ensure all programs meet or exceed internal quality benchmarks and state/federal requirements.
  • Lead the development and implementation of quality improvement plans based on data trends, feedback, and performance metrics.
  • Maintain a strong understanding of regulatory updates and proactively adjust policies and procedures accordingly.
  • Serve as a key liaison during licensing reviews, audits, and external inspections.


Operational Excellence and Resource Management

  • Manage program budgets, monitor expenses, and ensure sound financial stewardship across all sites.
  • Implement standardized operational systems and processes to enhance efficiency and consistency.
  • Identify and mitigate operational risks, ensuring safety, continuity, and responsiveness in all programs.
  • Participate in on-call rotation and provide crisis response leadership when needed.


Collaboration, Advocacy, and Communication

  • Partner with organizational leadership, Human Resources, Clinical Services, and other departments to ensure coordinated and effective service delivery.
  • Engage families, guardians, and external stakeholders to promote transparency, trust, and collaboration.
  • Advocate for the rights, inclusion, and empowerment of individuals served through active participation in community and organizational initiatives.


Working Conditions

  • Work performed primarily within residential and office environments with periodic travel to program sites.
  • May involve exposure to individuals exhibiting challenging behaviors or emotion Education & Experience
  • Master’s degree in Human Services, Psychology, Social Work, Healthcare Administration, or related field; equivalent combination of education and relevant experience may be considered.
  • Minimum of four (4) years of progressive management and supervisory experience.
  • At least two (2) years of experience in quality assurance, compliance, or operations within a residential, healthcare, or human services setting preferred.
  • Experience supporting individuals with developmental disabilities and behavioral health needs strongly preferred.
