Success Profile
The Sweater Designer supports the creation and execution of a competitive, fashion-forward sweater assortment for DKNY Sportswear. This role balances brand-right, emotionally driven design with commercial relevance to drive business growth in alignment with DKNY’s strategic and financial objectives. The Designer works collaboratively across teams to bring innovative, high-quality product from concept through production in a fast-paced, high-volume environment.
Key Responsibilities
Design & Development
• Create original sweater designs through hand sketches and Adobe Illustrator flats.
• Develop and maintain complete design packages, including sketches, tech packs, line sheets, and CAD presentations.
• Research and source innovative yarns, stitches, trims, and fabrics each season.
• Prepare and maintain tech packs from initial concept through bulk production.
• Organize and manage all aspects of design development, including artwork, trims, fabric worksheets, line lists, and finalized tech packs.
• Attend garment fittings and collaborate closely with Technical Design to ensure design intent and fit accuracy.
• Revise and update tech packs as needed, clearly communicating changes to factories.
• Review and approve artwork, strike-offs, wash panels, lab dips, and related development submissions.
• Create CAD presentations for internal reviews and external meetings with speed and accuracy.
Production & Overseas Communication
• Create and maintain tracking charts for overseas sample requests and development timelines.
• Communicate daily with overseas factories to support ongoing product development.
• Coordinate sample preparation for internal meetings, line reviews, and market presentations.
• Enter and maintain PLM data, including Bills of Materials (BOMs), for production readiness.
• Partner cross-functionally to coordinate all domestic and overseas sweater development.
Qualifications
Education & Experience
• Minimum of 5 years of professional apparel design experience, with a focus on sweaters preferred.
• Bachelor’s degree in Fashion Design (w/ textiles & knitwear preferred) or a related field, or equivalent professional experience.
• Experience working in a high-SKU, fast-paced fashion environment.
• Strong understanding of apparel construction, sweater techniques, and garment components.
• Familiarity with apparel development timelines, calendars, and production processes.
Technical Skills
• Proficiency in Adobe Illustrator and Photoshop.
• Strong working knowledge of PLM systems.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and Microsoft Office Suite.

Compensation
Pay Range: $85,000 – $100,000 per year
This compensation range represents a good-faith estimate and is provided in accordance with the New York City Salary Transparency Law. Final compensation will be determined based on experience, qualifications, and internal equity.

Position Summary:
MUST HAVE SWEATER DESIGN/PD EXPERIENCE.
We are seeking a highly skilled Senior Designer to support our Karl Lagerfeld Paris team, with a strong specialization in sweater design and yarn sourcing and development. This role will research trends, create cohesive collections, develop innovative knitwear concepts, communicate design intent to factories, and support production and merchandising teams throughout the development process. The ideal candidate has deep expertise in knit construction, yarn development, and sweater commercialization, and is detail-oriented, organized, and able to translate creative concepts into commercially viable garments.
Key Responsibilities:
- Research current trends and forecast evolution within brand identity
- Lead the design and development of sweater and knit categories, including silhouette development, stitch innovation, gauge selection, and construction techniques
- Partner with sourcing teams and mills to develop and source yarns aligned with seasonal concepts, cost targets, and performance requirements
- Apply findings from trend research (blogs, magazines, stores, street-style, vintage exploration) to create cohesive, seasonally relevant collections
- Communicate seasonal concept and knitwear design intent to factories and request preliminary treatments, stitch layouts, and mock-ups
- Generate tech-packs with detailed knit specifications including stitch construction, gauge, yarn composition, trims, and finishing details for overseas factories
- Evaluate knit prototypes, provide detailed fit and construction feedback, and communicate adjustments through photographs, spec notes, and diagram sketches
- Collaborate with overseas vendors on yarn development, wash techniques, hand-feel, and costing to achieve design and margin goals
- Refabricate and sketch to support seasonal objectives within line plan and SKU count
- Amplify visual cues to reinforce concept and translate garments to runway program with stylist
- Support the collection through production, ensuring correct development, yarn allocation, and color execution for each garment

About the Job:
To manage the fit and construction process for quality garments leading to on time delivery.
A day in the life, what you’ll be doing:
- Manage and supervise assigned Technical Designer/s
- Lead/direct fit session on live model with cross-functional teams (Design/Merchants/Product Development) to evaluate garment fit, constructions, and styling details
- Ability to articulate the fit issues and present solutions during the fit session to cross functional teams
- Accountable to resolve fit issues and to clearly communicate to vendors via PLM system, illustrator and/or pattern corrections w/in a 24-72 hour turn time
- Accurately apply grade rules and make pattern corrections
- Take ownership to maintain accuracy of PLM tech pack specs and construction pages
- Establish and maintain library of patterns of basic blocks

General Paving & Site Duties
- Follow instructions given by the foreman and production leadership
- Place hot mix asphalt using shovels, lutes, and other hand tools
- Shovel, rake, sweep, and level asphalt, gravel, and dirt
- Assist with loading and unloading materials
- Maintain a clean and organized jobsite throughout the day
- Set up and maintain traffic control as required
- Assist with layout, measurements, and grade control as directed
Equipment Operation (Training Provided)
- Operate commercial paving equipment such as:
- Rollers
- Skid-steers with various attachments (broom, miller, bucket, etc.)
- Sweepers and other small equipment
- Perform basic equipment checks and cleaning

Site Preparation & Repair
