Job Description

Foreclosure Attorney (Maryland)

Location: Rockville, MD

Schedule: Full-time | Hybrid (on-site presence required several days each week; some work may be performed remotely)

Practice Areas: Foreclosure (primary), Real Estate Title/Litigation, Bankruptcy (as experience/interests allow), Transactional/Default (as needed)

Travel: Local court appearances (MD/DC) with a mix of virtual and in-person proceedings

About the Role

Our client is growing their Mid‑Atlantic creditors’ rights practice and seeking a Foreclosure Attorney admitted in Maryland to join their Rockville office. This is a new headcount created by practice expansion; the team recently integrated a Mid‑Atlantic foreclosure group, increasing attorney staffing across their Richmond and Maryland offices and broadening their client base.

This role is litigation‑oriented within the Maryland foreclosure practice, with opportunities, depending on experience and training, to contribute to bankruptcy matters and/or collaborate with our transactional “Docket” team (which focuses on filings and non‑appearance work). They offer a hybrid model and a paperless operation with client-driven timelines, so success requires exceptional writing, technology fluency, and disciplined time management.

What You’ll Do

  • Own a foreclosure litigation caseload in line with firm, client, and court timelines; manage matters end‑to‑end with accountability and urgency.
  • Prepare, review, and file foreclosure pleadings and supporting papers, including complaints, motions (e.g., motions for judgment, motions for summary judgment), responsive pleadings, briefs, and affidavits—ensuring legal sufficiency and compliance with client directives and state/federal law.
  • Research and analyze statutes, codes, and case law related to foreclosure, real estate title, and mortgage servicing; translate research into clear, well‑supported drafts.
  • Appear in court to argue motions, attend hearings/mediations, and—depending on experience and training—handle depositions and participate in trials in state and, when applicable, federal courts.
  • Review title and real estate issues; handle substantive real estate and title litigation matters as needed.
  • Draft and support bankruptcy filings (e.g., motions for relief from stay) where appropriate based on background and practice needs.
  • Execute quality control over documents and staff work; ensure precise, timely updates to client platforms and the firm’s case management system.
  • Collaborate cross‑functionally with litigation and transactional/default (Docket) teams to meet client SLAs—some tasks may require swift turnaround (as short as 24 hours for certain clients).
  • Maintain strong professional judgment around client conflicts and servicing‑side sensitivities.

You’ll Be Great Here If You…

  • Are MD‑barred and in good standing (DC admission strongly preferred or willingness/ability to obtain promptly).
  • Bring excellent legal writing—clear, persuasive, precise. Drafting quality is paramount to success in this role.
  • Thrive in a paperless, technology‑forward environment and are highly tech‑savvy with client platforms and case management systems.
  • Are organized, detail‑oriented, and can work independently while collaborating effectively with attorneys and staff.
  • Are energized by aggressive deadlines, rapid reprioritization, and client service expectations.
  • (Preferred) Have experience with mortgage servicing, foreclosure, title, bankruptcy, or real estate litigation, including representing banks or mortgage servicers.
  • (Open to) Recently licensed attorneys with meaningful internships/clinics/clerkships in real estate or litigation who demonstrate strong writing and a genuine interest in the space.
