The Opportunity:

17A is supporting a large Bay Area county agency on a technology and digital services transformation effort. This is a fully embedded, on-site role — not parachuting in. You'll work inside the agency's innovation team, sitting alongside Deputy-level leadership to help the county deliver on its mission to make government more human, more responsive, and more digital. This position is a contract role with the potential to convert to full-time after a few months.

This agency has taken a distinctive approach to transformation: rather than buying expensive new systems and hoping for the best, it's doing the hard, human-centered work of dismantling bureaucracy, redesigning how services are delivered, and building a digital culture from the inside. What You'll Do

Senior Andrologist (California CLS Required) – Fertility Clinic

Job Summary

The Senior Andrologist is responsible for performing and overseeing advanced andrology and reproductive laboratory procedures within a fertility clinic setting. This role supports male fertility evaluation, endocrine testing, and assisted reproductive technologies (ART) by performing semen analyses, sperm preparation, and hormone testing while ensuring compliance with California laboratory regulations.

The Senior Andrologist also supervises andrology laboratory operations, maintains quality control standards, and collaborates closely with reproductive endocrinologists, embryologists, and clinical staff to support patient care.

Key Responsibilities

Andrology Laboratory Testing

• Perform diagnostic semen analysis according to WHO guidelines and laboratory protocols.
• Conduct advanced sperm function testing including:
• Morphology assessment
• Motility and vitality analysis
• Sperm concentration and total motile count
• DNA fragmentation testing when applicable
• Prepare sperm samples for assisted reproductive technologies (ART) including:
• Intrauterine Insemination (IUI)

• Process surgical sperm retrieval samples including TESA, PESA, and micro-TESE.

Endocrinology & Hormone Testing

• Perform and oversee reproductive endocrinology testing related to fertility diagnostics.
• Operate immunoassay analyzers including Roche Cobas e411 for hormone testing (e.g., FSH, LH, Estradiol, Progesterone, AMH, Testosterone, hCG, Prolactin).
• Perform linearity verification and calibration verification (CALVER) as required by laboratory validation protocols.
• Conduct and document CAP Proficiency Testing (PT) in compliance with CLIA and CDPH regulations.
• Troubleshoot analyzer performance issues and perform corrective actions as needed.
• Perform routine and scheduled instrument maintenance, calibration checks, and functional verification of the analyzer.
• Monitor assay performance and maintain quality documentation for regulatory inspections.

Sperm Banking & Cryopreservation

• Perform sperm cryopreservation and thawing procedures for fertility preservation and donor banking.
• Maintain specimen tracking and chain-of-custody documentation.

Laboratory Operations & Quality Management

Education

MELE is seeking a Program Manager (PM) to support the Mobile Detection Deployment Program (MDDP)/Mobile Detection Deployment Unit (MDDU) program. MDDUs are assets designed to supplement Federal and State partners' and first responders' existing CBRN detection and reporting capabilities in support of national and other special security events. The program is growing into the full spectrum of CBRN detection, however the emphasis of this support is focused on radiological/nuclear detection operations and instrumentation. The nature of the MDDU force will be voluntary and managed on a rotational basis for scheduled events and short notice requested to deploy. The Program Manager is responsible for providing operational and program support. This position will be the lead personnel for their specific location and responsible for successful completion of all tasks. This position will be an asset designed to supplement Federal and State partners' and first responders' existing CBRN detection and reporting capabilities in support of national and other special security events. Deployment without advance notification may be required. This position must have experience with radiological/nuclear detection instrumentation.

Responsibilities: Duties will include but are not limited to the following:

• Supervise regional mobile detection deployment units (MDDU) in delivering critical assistance to chemical, biological, radiological and nuclear (CBRN) detection and interdiction capabilities during domestic law enforcement counterterrorism operations.
• Provide program management, field operations, logistics and inventory, and fleet management support to a national CBRN support capability that assists CWMD's law enforcement and other public safety partners at all levels of government with detecting, reporting, and interdicting WMD threats.
• Develop and deploy to field detection surge deployments to expand operational agencies' threat detection posture and capacity.
• Augment existing capability structures with detection technologies and technical support subject matter experts, and deploy CWMD assets in parallel with existing anti- and counter-terrorism security plans, tactics and procedures.
• Support the management and use of regional screening support teams and equipment trailers to augment partner agency detection and protection efforts that focus on transportation pathways, critical infrastructure, and large-scale events.
• Deploy advanced next generation CBRN detection equipment to enhance existing detection capabilities to meet evolving threats and public safety requirements.
• Supplement public safety agencies at all levels of government with advanced CBRN detection equipment that includes hand-held, man-portable, stationary, mobile, and wide area units for use in diverse deployment tactics and environments.
• Enhance Federal, State, local, tribal and international agencies' (FSLTI) existing CBRN detection capabilities, customize their operation plans and tactics, and enhance their WMD threat detection footprint and posture based on user experience, needs, and requirements for special event, enhanced steady-state, or steady-state detection activities.
• Maintain and provide an extensive suite of CBRN state-of-the-art detection technology and expert training and technical support in equipment operation, deployment tactics, primary and secondary screening, alert/alarm adjudication, and reachback for immediate scientific analysis.
• Strategically locate detection equipment caches and technical support personnel throughout CONUS for immediate short- and long-term support deployments that include national special security events, significant state and local special events, special operations, and multi-agency training and exercise activities.
• Coordinate and integrate with multi-agency operational planning and threat detection activities.

Requirements:

• Experienced in chemical, biological, radiological and nuclear CBRN detection with emphasis on R/N detection.
• 12 years relevant experience in R/N detection training and supporting preventive R/N detection mission operations at special events or during steady state operations where R/N detection is regularly employed.
• Knowledgeable in using the following the equipment: Personal Radiation Detectors PRD Spectroscopic/Non-Spectroscopic; Human Portable Radiation Detection Backpacks; Radiological Isotope Identification Device RIID High-Res/Low-Res; Mobile Radiation Detection Systems. Auxiliary Equipment: Radios, Radioactive Material Sources.
• Able to lift and carry up to 50 pounds of equipment repetitively.
• Excellent verbal and communications skills to include completing daily situation reports, after-action reports, monthly report.

Salary: Salaries are determined based on several factors including external market data, internal equity, and the candidate's related knowledge, skills, and abilities for the position. The expected salary range for this position is $140K-$180K.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead customer strategy, serving as the primary point of contact and building strong cross‑functional relationships while overseeing commercial and technical initiatives.

Job Description: High-Throughput Screening Research Associate II, III (Biodesigner II, III)

Responsibilities:

• Perform massively parallel reporter assays and high-throughput screens across diverse cellular contexts using cellular and molecular readouts.
• Develop and execute molecular biology workflows such as vector design and cloning, DNA/RNA extraction, RT-PCR, qPCR, and next-generation sequencing.
• Support cell culture activities and experiments in multiple cell lines, at small and large scales.
• Design and execute cell-based assays (AAV/lentiviral transduction, transfection, flow cytometry, immunostaining, and other plate reader assays).
• Engineer and characterize cell-based systems using synthetic biology tools and techniques.
• Conduct and troubleshoot experiments, independently and in collaboration with colleagues, to optimize screening throughput, sensitivity, and specificity.
• Proactively troubleshoot technical issues and recommend potential corrective actions based on personal observations and literature searches.
• Prepare summaries of data and present internally to colleagues and management.
• Draft SOPs, follow protocols, diligently document experimental data in lab notebooks, and organize and maintain electronic work records.
• Author scientific reports and data summaries.
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams to meet project goals, bridging early discovery with high-throughput screens to nominate and optimize candidates for further characterization.

Qualifications:

• Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Biology, Biochemistry, Chemical Engineering, Biological Engineering, or a related field.
• At least 2 years of industry wet lab experience.
• Mammalian cell culture experience (culturing, transfecting and transducing cells, and DNA/RNA purification from cells).
• Molecular biology expertise (vector design and cloning, qPCR, primer and probe design, DNA/RNA extraction workflows)
• Critical thinker with excellent communication skills who thrives in a multidisciplinary, fast-paced team environment.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills.
