4D Cardiac Surg Intermediate:
4D is an intermediate ICU otherwise called a Progressive Care Unit. The unit includes a 28 bed fully monitored unit. We provide high acuity care to critically ill post-operative cardiothoracic, vascular patients, and medical overflow. Common therapies seen on 4D are chest tubes management, lytic therapy, antidysrhythmic, low dose vasopressors, Bipap and high flow oxygen systems, insulin drips, and precedex. 4D works closely with Neuro Trauma PCU and ICUs for opportunities to cross train between departments. We are part of the Critical Care Cluster, which includes all ICUs and PCUs.

3E is the Cardiovascular and Surgical ICU. We care for all cardiothoracic, vascular, general, and head/neck surgery patients requiring ICU admission. Some common patients we care for are:
- CABG and Valve Repair/Replacement
- Vascular Stent and Bypasses

- STEMI/NSTEMI
- Radical Neck Dissection

The Nurse Tech role is designed for current nursing students who have completed Fundamentals of Nursing. As a Nurse Tech, you will have the opportunity to work closely with Mercy nurses to gain real life experience on a hospital unit while still in nursing school!
Job Duties:
- Obtain vital signs and document into the electronic medical records system
- Assist with patient care needs including, meals, bathing, toileting, ambulation, patient mobility, and transport.
- Phlebotomy/blood cultures
- Enteral Feeding
- Wound care
- IV/Foley removal
- Trach care/suctioning
- Culture collection
- Ostomy application and care
- Wound vacs
- NG tube management and removal
Qualifications:
Education: High school diploma or G.E.D. and enrolled in a board-certified nursing
program.
Prior to employment, the Nurse Tech shall provide student transcripts indicating
they have completed Fundamentals of Nursing from an accredited school of nursing
and provide competency skills list from their learning institution.
The Nurse Tech must remain in good standing with their school of nursing while in
this role. This program is for nursing students only, if a student leaves a program for
any reason, they can no longer be a nurse tech.
Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required within one month of hire.
