Role Description

Irwin Fritchie is seeking a Litigation Paralegal to join our New Orleans team. The paralegal candidate will be expected to work as a team player and utilize their experience and judgment to assist with supporting the team’s efforts. Candidates must show initiative, have excellent organizational skills, strong oral and written communication skills, and be proficient with technology - particularly with Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and Adobe, along with other litigation software. On the job training will also be provided. The ideal candidate should have a minimum of three (3) years of paralegal experience. A bachelor's degree or paralegal certificate is preferred. Due to the collaborative nature of this position, in-person attendance at the firm’s office is required.

Ideal Experience/Proficiencies

  • All phases of the litigation process, particularly as it relates to construction cases
  • Drafting basic pleadings and motions such as notices of deposition and subpoenas
  • Preparation of witness/exhibit lists, pre-trial inserts and pre-trial orders
  • Requesting/preparing trial subpoenas (State & Federal Courts)
  • Management of the scheduling order and deadlines therein
  • Scheduling trial testimony of experts & clients
  • Basic legal research skills such as Westlaw, Lexis/Nexis
  • Demonstrating initiative, prioritizing, meeting deadlines, being adaptable to fluctuating priorities and deadlines, and managing multiple projects with minimal supervision
  • Navigating electronic databases and documents for organization, review, and/or summary
  • Being enthusiastic about learning and strong interpersonal skills for interaction with all firm personnel, clients, outside counsel, and vendors
  • Exercising professional judgment, and proactively communicating with team members
  • Being proficient in managing and navigating matters and pleadings in Louisiana state and federal courts
  • Effectively setting priorities, meeting deadlines, and managing multiple projects for several attorneys
  • Search database programs and assisting with organizing, summarizing and/or categorizing documents.
  • Demonstrating strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Being exceptionally well organized and detail oriented, as well as adaptable to changing priorities
  • Managing a case all the way through trial preparation/trial attendance
