Job Title : Medical Assistant/Technician (Hospital Corpsman) Category / Component : Enlisted • Both Overview Hospital Corpsmen assist healthcare professionals and provide medical and dental care to Sailors, Marines, and their families across clinics, hospitals, ships, and field units, gaining broad clinical, technical, and operational experience.
Key Responsibilities Perform emergency medical treatment for Sailors, Marines, and specialized units such as SEALs and Seabees; provide basic and emergency dental care and process dental X rays; serve as operating room technician and assist in surgery; administer preventive care and medications including immunizations and IVs; conduct physical exams and assist in diagnosing and treating diseases and injuries; maintain patient records, perform clinical tests, and support physicians and nurses in a wide range of specialties.
What to Expect Hands on patient care with shift work and possible on call duties; field training and deployments with Marine and expeditionary units and embarked medical departments on ships; continuous certification and recertification in areas such as basic life support, trauma care, and tactical combat casualty care; mix of clinic, ward, and field environments with rapid response in emergent situations and a strong emphasis on teamwork and readiness.
Work Environment Assignments in Navy hospitals and clinics, aboard aircraft carriers and other ships, with Marine units in garrison and field environments, and occasionally on submarines; work in exam rooms, wards, operating rooms, emergency departments, aid stations, and field medical sites; close integration with medical teams, line units, and joint or coalition partners.

Qualifications All Navy jobs require meeting general enlistment or commissioning standards, which typically include: Eligibility to serve in the United States Navy, which may involve United States citizenship or other legal residency and work status, depending on the program and current law and policy A high school diploma or equivalent for enlisted positions, and a bachelor's or qualifying professional degree for officer positions Meeting age limits that vary by program and are set in law and Navy policy.
