Effector RF Design Department is responsible for designing RF and Microwave hardware, including transmitters, receivers, and exciters.  This includes design and test activities that span preliminary design to integration.  Products we develop support radar and datalink applications on a variety of tactical missile programs.  Critical to this role is designing for challenging mechanical constraints and extreme environments.

This position is an onsite role, located in Tucson, AZ.

What You Will Do

  • Design and development of transmitters, receivers or exciters
  • Design of circuit card assemblies (CCAs) with RF or mixed signals
  • Work in a lab to accomplish component characterization as well as module verification and integration
  • Test and handle sensitive RF Hardware
  • Schematic capture and RF routing
  • Partner with interdisciplinary teams - power, digital, mechanical, etc.

Qualifications You Must Have

  • Typically requires a Bachelor’s in Science, Technology, Engineering, or Mathematics (STEM) and a minimum of eight years of prior relevant experience to include any combination of the following:
    • Experience with RF design and fabrication
    • Experience with RF testing and troubleshooting
    • Experience with the simulation of RF products
    • Experience with any of the following tools:
      • Mentor DX Designer or equivalent
      • High Frequency Structure Simulator (HFSS) or equivalent
      • SystemVue/Genesys or equivalent
      • Advanced Design System (ADS) or equivalent

Qualifications We Prefer

  • Mentorship or apprenticeship experience 
  • Technical oversight responsibilities for less-senior engineers
  • Working across domains on complex projects
  • Architecting and requirements definition for complex RF products

Job Summary:

The Test Equipment and Environments Center (TE&EC) is within the Test Equipment Engineering Directorate at Raytheon. The Test Equipment and Environments Center (TE&EC) includes all the engineering disciplines responsible for systems design & test on all Raytheon products. Our engineers are responsible for all elements of the development lifecycle for test including test requirements, test system design, flight simulations, hardware-in-the-loop, computer-in-the-loop, advanced engineering prototyping technology, flight operations for manned and unmanned vehicles, environmental testing, environmental characterization, and engineering laboratory management.  We are hands-on, designing with the latest technology and tools, and integrate state of the art test solutions with the most advanced engineering systems in the world.

The Engineering Prototyping & Fabrication department is seeking Electrical Prototyping Inspection Technicians to work in an engineering environment to co-develop engineering hardware in accordance with customer and internal requirements, as well as industry standards. Candidates will collaborate with multi-disciplined design teams across multiple projects to bring design concepts to fruition, providing rapid engineering, fabrication, and prototyping solutions throughout the entire product lifecycle.   

Responsibilities of a Lead Technician:

  • Test and inspect complex prototype electrical assemblies and verify compliance to workmanship standards.
  • Rely on moderate to extensive experience to interpret drawings, schematics, 3D models, written notes, and specifications.
  • Adapt methods and procedures to test, inspect, and troubleshoot new hardware.
  • Apply advanced skills to test and inspect complex prototype electrical assemblies.
  • Assist in electrical/mechanical engineering drawing peer reviews to validate engineering design specifications in development of producible prototypes.
  • Assess complex designs to ensure producibility, maintainability, safety, and reliability.
  • Document and communicate test and inspection discrepancies and concerns to customers and collaborate on design improvements.
  • Perform other task related duties as required.

 Qualifications You Must Have:

  • High school, secondary school, or equivalent with a minimum of eight (8) years of experience in an engineering environment inspecting electrical assemblies in three or more of the following areas: cables or wire harnesses, breakout boxes, chassis, circuit card modifications, and racked electronic equipment.
  • Previous work experience reading and interpreting electrical and mechanical drawings and schematics.

What You Will Do:

  • Utilizing strong mechanical hardware design experience and knowledge with ruggedized structures, interconnects, cooling, and electronics integration

  • Supporting all phases of programs from capture and concept development through production

  • Developing technical solutions to a wide range of complex problems related to the entire product life cycle including proposal, design, manufacture, integration and test of electronics for multiple military programs

  • Supervising the definitions of mechanical outline and construction details, component selection and specification, mechanical and assembly drawings, electrical/RF layout, and delivering the final technical data package

  • Employing transition-to-production practices with the ability to lead a design release into production

  • Tracking, reporting, and meeting cost, schedule, quality, and performance requirements for the finished product, including Earned Value (EV) management and Estimate at Complete (EAC) inputs

  • Preparing proposal inputs on behalf of the product area

  • Providing technical conscience, challenged with making sure the product and process meet appropriate standards and requirements while helping to remove roadblocks

  • Working with minimal direction or supervision, while exercising considerable latitude in determining the technical objectives of the assignment while meeting cost, schedule, quality, and performance requirements for the finished product.

The Effector Digital Products (EDP) department develops electronics for our weapon system products. We are responsible for the architecture, design, and documentation of deliverable FPGA embedded processing. We engage at the outset of the weapon system development and follow our designs through deployment. As a Principal FPGA Design Engineer you will develop FPGA designs for all major vendors and device families including: Xilinx, Altera, and Microsemi. Designs are implemented using VHDL for the following applications: gigabit serial interfaces, Radio Frequency (RF) and Electro-Optical (EO) DSP, controls, data links, embedded processing and processor interfaces.

Designers work with circuit card designers and systems engineers to develop requirements, architect new parts, collaborative modeling of algorithms, partition and perform code development, simulation, and place and route. Designs are verified against requirements using both directed test and constrained random methodologies. Design support is expected from requirements definition through integration and test. Design documentation and configuration management are required.

The Test Solutions (TS) organization within RTX drives business success by providing a variety of critical engineering services across product lines and functions.

We have an exciting opportunity for a full-time position of Senior Principal Test Systems Integrated Product Manager (IPM) located onsite in Tucson, Arizona. This position requires leading a team of sub-IPMs and multi-discipline engineers, providing technical and execution oversight, and managing multiple contracts and projects for a program.  If you enjoy project management, partnership with other functional organizations, and establish strong relationship with the program office and customer, this is the job for you! What You Will Do:

  • Direct all phases of programs from inception through completion, act as an IPM of multi-disciplinary sub-IPMs on projects in technical manufacturing and administrative areas.
  • Manage a cross functional test team including project management, electrical, software, mechanical, etc.
  • Oversee and coordinates the administrative and operational aspects of ongoing projects within program guidelines.
  • Coordinate with program leadership, finance, planning, and sub-IPMs to execute Earned Value Management (EVM).
  • Analyze data gathered and develop solutions or alternative methods of proceeding to optimize performance and increase efficiency of work.
  • Facilitate project tasks with the various functional organizations to ensure alignment with overall project objectives.
  • Coordinate the preparation of proposals, business plans, proposal work statements and specifications, operating budgets, and financial terms/conditions of contract.
  • Effectively communicate the Test Systems performance results to executive and/or functional leadership, program leadership, and customers.

Qualifications You Must Have: 

  • Typically requires a Bachelor's Degree in Science, Technology, Engineering, or Mathematics (STEM) and a minimum of ten (10) years’ prior relevant experience
  • Experience with Earned Value Management System (EVMS) and Program management.
  • Experience with Test Systems Engineering or equivalent Engineering experience for both hardware and test software development, integration, verification, validation, and maintenance activities within production, manufacturing, product qualification environments.
  • IPM or Program Management (PM) experience with program office, cross-functional teams, and internal/external customers.
  • Experience with program management tools such as Earned Value Management System (EVMS), Integrated Master Plan (IMP), Integrated Master Schedule (IMS), and Risk and Opportunity Management.
  • Experience with budget, schedule, Estimate at Complete (EAC) process, and financial performance report generation with Test Systems Engineering or equivalent Engineering programs.

Qualifications We Prefer: 

  • Experience in managing multi-disciplinary team of sub-IPMs and engineers.
  • EVMS certification, Program Management certification, or equivalent to Raytheon PM Level 5 certification.
  • Strong influential communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to present analytic and performance results from program to executive and/or functional leadership.
  • Experience in large program execution.
  • Demonstrate understanding of Research/Development, Capital, engineering development, transition to production, production, and maintenance.
  • Experience with proposal capture and contract processes from receipt of Requests for Proposal (RFP), preparing Basis of Estimates (BOE), proposal submittal, preparing Statements of Work (SOW), contract startup and contract close-out.
  • Experience with all the functionalities of Automation Test Equipment/Unit Under Test (ATE/UUT).
  • Agile Methodologies understanding.

The PCAS department is seeking an embedded firmware engineer for algorithm development and implementation in a variety of electromechanical control assemblies. 

What You Will Do

  • You will help design, implement and verify motor control embedded firmware designs for current and future Control Actuation Systems.

  • You will implement digital control algorithms in C/C++ in conjunction with the Controls and Algorithms team.

  • Additionally, you will interact with mechanical and electrical design engineers and vendors to optimize hardware designs.

What You Will Learn

  • You will have the opportunity to perform hands-on hardware and firmware integration and verification testing in a laboratory environment.

Qualifications We Value

  • Experience of developing firmware or software for safety significant environments including requirements development and traceability, design decomposition and documentation, static code analysis, design to safety critical coding standards such as MISRA-C, test case development, code coverage including modified decision/code coverage (MC/DC), code coverage analysis and formal qualification testing.

  • A working understanding of configurable logic (FPGA firmware) and VHDL.

  • Experience implementing digital control algorithms in hardware including embedded microcontrollers, digital signal processors, FPGAs and a working understanding of serial communication interfaces, analog to digital converters, and PWM generators.

  • Experience working with and integrating hardware.

  • Basic understanding of modeling and controls of electric motors and solid background in PMSM motor fundamentals

  • Digital and analog signal electronics design, development and verification.

  • Use of software/firmware configuration management tools such as GIT, Subversion or similar tools

  • Strong verbal and written communication and ability to work hands-on in teams.

  • Basic proficiency with model development and data analysis in MATLAB/Simulink
