The CHRISTUS Spohn South Labor and Delivery, Antepartum and Obstetrical Emergency Departments are all staffed by one group of associates that are crossed trained in all three areas. Registered Nurses, OB Surgical Technicians, Certified Nurse Aides and Unit Secretaries make up our wonderful team of associates. In addition, we have 24-hour CRNA coverage for maternity anesthesia and our OBED is staffed within-house OB Hospitalist to accept transfers, care for patients and handle emergencies 24 hours a day. We average about 220 deliveries per month. We are capable of providing care for our patients in need of Non-stress test, Amniocentesis, Induction of Labor, Management of Postpartum complications such as hemorrhage or elevated blood pressure, and have the capability to begin an emergency section within 30 minutes of decision time and recognized as a Texas Ten Step for Breastfeeding. Our department is a happy environment for the patient and family, and our team provides an exceptional patient experience.

We care for post-cardiac intervention patients (e.g., heart catheterizations, AAA stent repairs, TAVRs, EP ablations, pacemaker/ICD placements) and manage specialized devices like Impellas and IABPs, Artic Sun and Tablo XT. We also treat ventilator-dependent patients and those with conditions like hypertension, diabetes, GI bleeds, peripheral vascular disease and renal disease. The unit handles multiple infusions for blood pressure, cardiac issues, thrombolytics, sedation and paralytics, as well as post-surgical ICU care. Our goal is to deliver exceptional, evidence-based care through teamwork and positive outcomes.

6NTis a36 - private bed unit specializing in cardiac care for patients who have had open heart surgery. We see cardiovascular/thoracic patients that are post-CABG, heart caths, valve replacements, thoracotomies, and many other cardiothoracic surgical procedures. We also see general medical-surgical patients that may have a primary cardiac diagnosis or history with comorbidities that may need telemetry monitoring, as well as those patients needing critical cardiac drips. On 6NT, we train our staff to detect medical issues before they become a problem, so they can respond to those emergent situations quickly and confidently. We have many opportunities for assessments, patient/family teaching, IVs, wound care, lab value analysis and medication administration/ management. We encourage communication and collaboration in an environment that is engaging and rewarding for our health care professionals, as well the patients on our unit.

Education/Skills
Bachelor of Science Degree in Nursing, preferred
Experience
Minimum of 2 years of combined experience required in both the Critical Care setting and one other specialty (e.g. Medsurg, Telemetry, IMC or Emergency)
5 years of experience preferred
Licenses, Registrations, or Certifications
BLS required
ACLS required
RN License in the state of employment or compact required
PALS is required at CHRISTUS Children’s Hospital
