Job Summary

The Patient Care Tech, under the direction of a Registered Nurse (RN) or Licensed Practicing Nurse (LPN) and, according to established procedures, performs patient care tasks and patient care procedures necessary to provide for the care, comfort and safety of patients. Demonstrates the knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to the age(s) of the patients served on the assigned unit.

Responsibilities and Essential Functions

Patient & Visitor Interactions /Customer Service/Hourly Rounding: In this role, the PCT will interact with patients and visitors, answering patient call lights, answering phones, assisting visitors within the facility. Performs purposeful hourly rounding on all assigned patients.

Patient Safe Handling/Ambulation/Repositioning: In this role, the PCT will learn patient safe handling skills to allow the PCT to assist in the ambulation of patents and to be able to assist the nursing staff in the transferring, lifting and /or repositioning of patient utilizing Safe Patient Handling equipment.

Basic Nursing Care- ADLs: In this role, the PCT will provide basic care by assisting patients with personal care needs including bathing, grooming, oral care, eating, feeding, use of bedpan or urinal, positioning, answering and responding to patient call lights, bed making, etc. under the supervision of a RN/LPN. Follows policies and procedures related to patient and staff safety.

Admission/Discharge/Transfers: In this role, the PCT will assist with room set up, welcoming of new patients/ room orientation, discharging and/or transfer of patients. Provides patient/family orientation to room and hospital according to hospital practice. Transports/escorts patient to area of destination ensuring safety; regularly updates patients.

Procedures and Treatments: In this role, the PCT will accurately complete and document patient care activities including: ADL, vital signs, weights, (actual weight on admission or as ordered), intake & output, and calorie counts according to policy and procedure. Effectively explain and perform procedures (e.g., urinary catheter removal, ECGs, wound care and dressing changes under the direction of the nurse). Notifies appropriate personnel of response and questions. Collects non-sterile specimens such as routine urinalysis and stool specimens. Accurately performs point of care patient blood sugar testing under the direction of the nurse. Promotes and maintains skin integrity by reporting patient problems as they occur, to the appropriate team member.

Care Companion/Sitter/Observer: In this role, the PCT may be asked by the RN or LPN to remain with a patient as a means to keep the patient safe.

Department Specific Tasks: In this role, the PCT will support the nursing team by indirect patient care activities such as restocking equipment/linens, cleaning equipment etc. Performs unit support duties including answering and relaying telephone calls, filing and maintaining records, retrieving and delivering supplies, specimens, instruments, test results and so forth. These indirect patient care activities are identified in each nursing department.

A Brief Overview:
The Simulation Specialist with planning, developing, implementing, and evaluating education programs that incorporate simulation techniques for all levels of personnel. The purpose of this job is to assist in providing an educational environment for Physicians, Residents, Medical Students, Nursing and pre-hospital personnel. Will provide logistical support to any ancillary department who wish to use the simulators or simulation center.

What you will do:

- Serves as a role model and resource to network staff for competency-based education.
- Develops and /or revises instruction written materials, web-based materials and audiovisual aids to augment educational programs.
- Collaborates with Directors, Nursing Education and Professional Development, medical specialties regarding centralized simulation.
- Serves as a resource to staff for various teaching/learning strategies.
- Solicit instructor and student feedback following simulation experience to analyze the impact of simulation on the learning process.
- Contribute to the development and implementation of policies, procedures, and practices for the Simulation Center
- Assist with development of learning opportunities using simulations and simulators.
- Coordinate with community as needed.
- Serve as liaison between the simulation center and the community, and other simulation centers.
- Assist individual departments with "Skills Days" as needed.
- Assist faculty with abstracts, Power Point presentations, conference workshops, manuscripts for publication.
- Identify extramural grants/partnerships funding opportunities (governmental, professional foundations, industry) for education.
- Identify extramural grants/partnerships funding opportunities for patient safety research.
- Initiation and implementation of research studies
- Coordinate simulation research data collection, management and analysis
- Maintain data confidentiality and security.
- Initiation and implementation of research studies
- Maintenance and repair of simulator and clinical equipment
- Recommend and implement cost saving measures and identify key initiatives to target improvement of delivery of services.
- Orchestration of acquisition, maintenance, cleaning and repair of simulator and support equipment
- Ability to independently troubleshoot faulty equipment and software.
- Audiovisual operations for capture of simulated scenarios
- Contact with external simulation experts and centers for activity and research coordination.
- Tours and orientation of the center as needed.

What you will need:

- Education: Bachelors Degree Nursing Required
- Experience:3 Years of clinical experience in a critical care settings.
And Simulation experience preferred. And
- License: Registered Nurse (RN) - Illinois Department of Financial and Professional Regulation (IDFPR) Current RN license in the state of Illinois Required And
- CPR or BLS - American Heart Association (AHA) BLS Required Or
- Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) - American Heart Association (AHA) ACLS Preferred And
- Advanced Life Support (ALS) - American Heart Association (AHA) ALS certification Preferred And
