The Role:

The Assistant Estimator is responsible for assisting with all aspects of estimating including pre-construction, hard bids, negotiated bids, budgets, systems studies and comparisons, value engineering, subcontractor relations and staying abreast of industry developments applicable to estimating.


Responsibilities:

Subcontractor Solicitation & Selection:

  • Follow up with subs regarding bidding and update the subcontractor bid list.
  • Understand a scope of work prepared by an Estimator or Senior Estimator and provide scoping assistance.
  • Write and send out an Invitation to Bid.

Subcontractor Relationships & Feedback:

  • Assist the Estimator in keeping subcontractors up to date with project information and addenda during the bidding process.
  • Send out documents, bid clarifications and addenda to subs.
  • Receive sub RFI's and transmit to Estimators.

Preconstruction, Conceptual and Design Build Estimating:

  • Assist the Estimator with basic quantity take offs.

Hard Bid Estimating:

  • Assist the Estimator with basic quantity take offs.
  • Assist the Estimator and Senior Estimator on bid day
  • Call subcontractors for pricing
  • Check the fax machines and mail boxes for bids and distribute bids to the Estimators.
  • Create transmittals for the printer.
  • Prepare bid packages to be sent to the subs.
  • Prepare trade spread sheets and list scope of work with the project Estimator(s).
  • Log in sub pricing to the bid spread sheets.
  • Participate in sub scope review meetings.
  • Participate in project walkthroughs as required.

Post Bid Activities:

  • Assist the Estimating Coordinator, after the bid goes in, with organizing the bid box and checking to make sure that each sub is entered into the S4 database.

Turn Over Meetings:

  • Assist the Estimator and Senior Estimator in compiling the Turn Over Meeting package

Exhibit B & Scope Sheets:

  • Assist in developing Exhibit Bs
  • Attend weekly staff meetings
  • Report on status of assignments

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree, preferably in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Construction Management, Architecture or related field
  • 2-5 years of experience in MEP Estimating or equivalent; Electrical Estimating experience preferred.
  • Working knowledge of Excel spread sheets, and Word processing programs.
  • Experience with estimating software such as Intellibid, Accubid, Timberline, OST, MC2
  • Knowledge of the contents of each CSI section.
  • Ability to read & interpret blue prints in order to understand the scope of work at SD, DD and CD phases of design.
  • Ability to coordinate construction document plans, details and specifications.
  • Ability to apply CD details to a conceptual set of documents to capture all cost impacts of the details.

Role:

The Director of Estimating is responsible for managing the Mission Critical Estimating team, including identifying bid opportunities, managing the bid process, delivery of bids, staff development, making cost adjustments and assigning estimating personnel and resources.

Responsibilities:

Department and Staff Management:

  • Assign Estimating team members to projects. Balance and manage time of staff.
  • Lead bid strategies.
  • Create estimating templates and tools to increase overall effectiveness of the department.
  • Create monthly estimating reports to track estimating success.
  • Create and track the Mission Critical Estimating budget.
  • Perform strategic and business planning for the department.
  • Attend executive staff meetings.
  • Develop talent on the Mission Critical Estimating team by coaching and providing feedback, and performing annual performance reviews. Create individual development plans for each staff member’s career growth.

Unit Cost Pricing:

  • Prepare detailed take off of materials by clearly understanding the complexity of the scope(s) of work as shown on the construction documents.
  • Prepare detailed labor estimates utilizing production hours, crews and equipment.
  • Organize the material and labor information for pricing.
  • Solicit material prices from suppliers.
  • Obtain current labor rates.
  • Prepare unit prices by "Building the Project in your Head."
  • Verify and compare your unit prices or the price of a system with a subcontractor and previous similar estimates.
  • Review all unit pricing on projects prepared by the Estimator. Make changes as required.
  • Understand the influence of market conditions on pricing.
  • Track all current market conditions.

Bid Activities:

  • Review or compile GC's with the Senior Estimator and review with senior management.
  • Assure on time delivery of bids and estimates, reviewing final plans and specifications with the Estimating team.
  • Review of subcontractor selection and scopes and subcontractor/trade close outs on bid day.
  • Review scope sheets and pricing with Estimating team members, ensuring that trade summary ties into bid form.
  • Close out the subcontractor bid process.
  • Review plans and specs with the lead Estimator.
  • Assist the lead Estimator in directing additional staff assignments on bid day.
  • Manage bid day activities by ensuring completion of bid forms, managing the clock and trying to develop a competitive advantage.
  • Follow up with the client regarding bid results.
  • Make Subcontractor, A/E fees, overhead, and fee recommendations to upper management.
  • Identify pre-construction fees for Suffolk, where applicable

Performs all duties and responsibilities of a Special Procedures Technologist. Ensures the efficient use of resources while maintaining quality imaging procedures. Practices radiation safety and observes universal precautions at all times. Performs related work as required.

Job Functions
  • Perform all Special Procedures in strict accordance with currently approved practices as outlined in department policy and procedure manual and comply with all applicable federal, state, local and other regulatory requirements.
  • Controls the flow of patients within the section, in an efficient and timely fashion.
  • Utilizes supportive protective (i.e., radiation shielding) and immobilization devices as required for patient safety and comfort.
  • Communicate to the patient the nature of the procedure and answer questions clarifying the procedure for the patient.
  • Demonstrates practical application of age-related factors.
  • Assures patient rights and privacy are maintained.
  • Reports any significant problems related to patient, physicians, procedures, housekeeping, maintenance, supplies, or personnel to the Lead Technologist and/or Assistant Director.
  • Properly wear radiation monitoring devices.
  • Demonstrates competency in IV access and IV contrast administration.
  • Cares for patients while they are in Radiology Department by checking IV's, catheters, tubing airways, and patient monitoring equipment.
  • Utilize proper sterile techniques in setting up and performing interventional procedures
  • Performs reconstructions/3-D imaging and post procedure of images per protocol.
  • Maintains continuing education credits for ARRT licensure.
  • Demonstrates competency in operating the power injector in a safe manner per department protocol.
  • Works efficiently and performs all exams within allocated timeframe.
  • Properly enters charges for exams in RIS (Meditech) in a timely manner.
  • Takes call as assigned by Lead Technologist.
Education:
  • Graduate of an AMA approved program.
Experience:
  • Registered with ARRT. BLS certification through American Red Cross (AHA and military certifications accepted) upon hire.
Experience:
  • Ability to perform Special Procedures following accepted standards and protocols.
