The State Group is seeking a Senior HVAC Estimator to work at our Welch and Rushe company based in Upper Marlboro, Maryland. Welch and Rushe have been operating for more than 50 years as a full-service mechanical contractor specializing in comprehensive HVAC and plumbing construction services. Over the years, they have built a strong reputation for being an honest, reliable, and dependable company.


As a Senior HVAC Estimator, you will take the lead in producing precise, competitive bids that set our projects up for success. You will analyze blueprints, specifications, and proposals to create comprehensive cost estimates covering labor, materials, equipment, and subcontractor work. Your expertise in sourcing and negotiating with trusted suppliers and subcontractors will ensure we secure the best value without compromising quality. You will prepare bid packages, identify cost-saving and value-engineering opportunities, and collaborate closely with project managers, engineers, and clients to ensure every estimate is technically sound, compliant, and profitable.

WHAT YOU WILL DO

  • As a Senior HVAC Estimator, you will play a key role in securing profitable projects and ensuring accurate, competitive bids.
  • Review project plans, specifications, and proposals to prepare detailed and accurate cost estimates for HVAC systems.
  • Perform quantity take-offs, labor calculations, and material pricing based on project scope.
  • Collaborate with engineers, project managers, and subcontractors to clarify requirements and obtain accurate pricing.
  • Develop bid strategies and proposals that align with company goals and client expectations.
  • Identify cost-saving opportunities, potential risks, and value-engineering options.
  • Maintain current knowledge of industry trends, codes, and pricing to ensure competitive and compliant bids.
  • Lead and mentor junior estimators, providing technical guidance and oversight.
  • Participate in pre-bid meetings, site visits, and client presentations as required.
  • Ensure all estimates are documented, organized, and submitted on schedule.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned to achieve company objectives.


WHAT YOU NEED TO JOIN OUR TEAM

  • 10+ years of estimating experience in the HVAC and mechanical areas.
  • Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering or a related field preferred; trade certification or equivalent experience will also be considered.
  • Solid understanding of HVAC and mechanical drawings, and ability to interpret schematics.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel) and knowledgeable in Estimating Software, specifically Quote Soft.
  • Ability to build relationships and work effectively within a team.
  • Strong organizational skills, capable of handling multiple competing priorities and timelines.
