Job Description
We are seeking an experienced and detail-oriented R&D Technician with a strong background in formulating dry blend food products within a private label or contract manufacturing environment. This role will focus primarily on managing R&D projects and developing custom dry blend formulations to meet customer specifications.
The R&D Technician will support product development from concept through commercialization, working closely with cross-functional teams including Quality, Purchasing, Operations, and Sales. The ideal candidate will have hands-on experience with dry ingredient functionality, formula development, plant trials, and customer-driven project timelines.
About the Role: This position involves managing R&D projects and developing custom dry blend formulations to meet customer specifications.
Responsibilities:
- Product Development & Formulation: Develop and reformulate dry blend food products to meet customer specifications, cost targets, and regulatory requirements. Understand ingredient functionality and interactions within dry systems.
- Project Management: Manage multiple private label projects simultaneously from concept through commercialization. Track timelines, communicate updates, and ensure project milestones are met.
- Bench & Plant Trials: Conduct bench-top testing and support production-scale trials. Assist with troubleshooting during scale-up and provide on-site support as needed.
- Documentation & Data Management: Maintain accurate formulas, specifications, batch sheets, and project documentation. Ensure all records are organized and up to date.
- Cross-Functional Collaboration: Work closely with Quality Assurance, Operations, and Purchasing to source ingredients, address production challenges, and ensure smooth commercialization.
- Regulatory & Compliance Support: Ensure formulations meet labeling requirements, food safety standards, and customer documentation needs.
- Continuous Improvement: Identify opportunities for cost savings, process efficiencies, and formula optimization.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s Degree in Food Science, Food Technology, Nutrition, or science-related field.
- 2–3 years of experience in food product development, preferably in private label or contract manufacturing.
- Demonstrated experience formulating dry blend food products.
- Strong understanding of dry ingredient functionality and interactions.
- Ability to manage multiple projects in a fast-paced environment.
- Strong attention to detail and organizational skills.
- Excellent communication skills and ability to work cross-functionally.
- Familiarity of Genesis Nutritional Software program for nutritional information output.
