What You Will Do:

Our Pratt & Whitney Middletown, CT facility has several exciting opportunities for a Production Machinist available on 1st shift.

1st shift hours are Monday through Friday from approximately 6:30 am to 3:30 pm.

In this role, you will setup and operate one machine tool or process equipment type and operate more than one unrelated machine tool or process equipment types within an assigned area to produce precision turbine engine parts. You will perform work where methods, procedures and processes are well developed and the required tooling, gaging and fixturing are provided.

  • Under the direction of leader/supervisor, work from verbal and written instructions, operation sheets, drawings and other pertinent information. Following established methods and procedures, use manual or numerically controlled machine tools such as milling, boring, grinding, turning, broaching and shaping machines to achieve the required dimensional specifications. Recognize indications of dull or damaged cutting tools and replace as needed.

  • Perform bench, assembly and surface finishing operations such as deburring, blending, trimming and fitting, using a variety of hand and power tools. Follow prescribed methods and procedures to perform drilling, riveting and bonding operations to assemble various details in producing a finished part. Operate part-marking equipment.

  • Use a variety of media, dry or liquid, to perform cleaning or part preparation and finishing operations. Operate tumbling, grit blast, shot peen, buffing and polishing equipment, wash machines and dip tanks for part surface conditioning. Apply masking as required. Perform applications of anti-gall and polymite coatings utilizing dry bake ovens to cure.

  • Utilize a variety of fixed or variable measuring instruments to check dimensions and part features. Operate OpCert and other computer–based systems to retrieve and store information and records.

  • Perform routine servicing throughout assigned area following specified procedures and written instructions, such as operators’ checklist, for upkeep and to assure equipment operates properly.

  • May be required to train for, obtain and maintain licenses, operator permits and certifications within assigned area.

Qualifications You Must Have:

  • High School Diploma or GED equivalent with 6 months of machining experience

As an Inspector for Integral Fuel Cells, you will be crucial in maintaining the integrity and safety of our aircraft operations. This position requires working in confined spaces within the wing fuel cells, where employees must crawl through an opening of 9.5” x 17.7" to access the fuel cell. Your expertise will be vital in inspecting the cleaning, sealing, and coating processes, as well as conducting thorough leak checks to identify and resolve any issues. Collaborating closely with Engineering, Quality, and Manufacturing teams, you will implement improvements in build processes and drive initiatives for defect reduction. Certification for visual acuity and color perception may also be required. Your ability to use precision measuring instruments and interpret technical documentation will ensure that all components meet stringent specifications, allowing you to make a significant impact on our operations.

Position Responsibilities:

  • Inspect preparatory cleaning, application of sealant, protective coatings, and leak detection coatings of integral fuel cells.

  • Perform and witness leak checks, determining the source of leaks and evaluating the extent of repairs required.

  • Inspect final assemblies, subassemblies, and installations of parts and systems for workmanship, fit, alignment, and conformance with applicable drawings and specifications.

  • Collaborate with Engineering, Quality, and Manufacturing to evaluate and coordinate improvements in build processes and defect reduction initiatives.

  • Initiate and document any nonconforming materials or assemblies according to specifications and procedures.

  • Conduct audits and surveillance of manufacturing and quality assurance processes to ensure compliance.

  • Use precision measuring instruments and shop mathematics to verify that all parts and assemblies meet quality requirements.

  • Review manufacturing plans and other documentation for completeness and compliance, identifying any discrepancies.

  • Perform in-process inspections, including checks for torque, sealant applications, and electrical bonding.

  • Document any discrepancies and report them to the appropriate personnel for resolution.

  • Verify that parts and assemblies have been properly cleaned and that sealants, primers, and finishes are applied per specifications.

  • Witness and document functional tests of aircraft components and systems to detect leaks.

  • Perform shakedown inspections on completed assemblies prior to customer acceptance, documenting any discrepancies.

  • Maintain personal and tool certifications, ensuring compliance with operational standards.

  • Assist and train other employees on inspection methods and procedures, providing guidance as needed.

Physical Demands and Potential Hazards:

  • Perform physical tasks that include lifting weights ranging from 10-15 lbs. to 15-35 lbs.

  • Engage in various movements such as reaching, handling, turning, twisting, lifting, lowering, climbing, balancing, bending, kneeling, crouching, and squatting. Work in environments that may involve contact with metals, solvents, and coolants.

  • Operate in proximity to moving parts and tools, sharp cutters, and potential slipping hazards.

  • Adapt to varying noise levels and atmospheric conditions.

  • Utilize personal safety gear to protect face/eyes, hands/arms, and feet while performing job duties.

This position is expected to be 100% onsite. The selected candidate will be required to work onsite at one of the listed location options.

2nd Shift: Monday - Friday 3PM - 11PM

What You Will Do

  • Receive job assignments, piece quantity, and special instructions from the supervisor.

  • Read standard operating procedures and operating sheets.

  • Clean, wipe, and sand parts as necessary.

  • Set torque wrenches and assemble brakes and their components.

  • Test brakes, rework brakes with leaks, and replace lee plugs as needed.

  • Stamp information on tags or pads and notify the supervisor of stock needs or machine problems.

  • Record transactions and quality data; report machine or process issues to the supervisor.

  • Check parts against the pick list and set up riveters as required.

  • Torque all applications as required.

  • Retrieve parts from the warehouse and store/retrieve brake components, maintaining current inventory records.

  • Prepare brakes and brake components for shipment, including packaging, counting, weighing, labeling, and completing paperwork.

  • Move materials between workstations and cells using hand trucks, hoists, or robot assistance.

  • Set aside discrepant parts.

  • Clean and maintain work areas, machines, auxiliary equipment, and common areas to ensure a clean, safe, and orderly environment.

  • Check and maintain operating levels of fluids and required machine materials.

  • Mask and plug parts as needed and touch up paint as required.

  • Attend training classes and cell meetings, and perform miscellaneous operations as assigned in support of Brake Assembly.

Our Collins Aerospace York, NE site is a manufacturer of highly engineered precision components supporting both commercial and military customers. Manufactured components are used primarily in generators and Ram Air Turbines (RAT) used for aircraft emergency power generation. Our Ram Air Turbines save lives, over 2,600 lives.

Collins York is seeking a skilled CNC Machinist to join our team. As a CNC Machinist, you will operate CNC lathes, mills, grinders, and other specialized equipment to convert raw materials into precision semi-finished goods. You will also perform finish work and marking on piece parts at various stages of production.  All work is done in a clean, climate controlled facility where we put safety and quality first in everything we do.

What You Will Do:

• You will operate CNC lathes, mills, grinders and other specialized CNC and manual equipment and/or perform finish work and marking of piece parts in various stages of production.

• You will be expected to set-up and run machines on a wide variety of operations involving multiple machines that convert raw materials to precision semi-finished goods within print tolerance specification.

• You will be required to obtain inspection certification through on-the-job training & testing.

3rd Shift: Sunday - Thursday, 11:00 pm – 7:00 AM

Training Schedule: Monday – Friday, 7:00 am – 3:00 pm for ~90 days.

What You Will Learn:

• Gained experience with CNC machines.

• Cross-functional collaboration through various types of manufacturing and processes.

• Gain experience with inspection equipment.

Qualifications You Must Have:

• Typically requires HS diploma (or equivalent, e.g. G.E.D in the US) or vocational/ technical education in related discipline with a minimum of 2 years of relevant experience

Qualifications We Prefer:

• Experience with measurement equipment, i.e. gauges, calipers, etc.

• Experience with basic hand tools.

• Identify and determine parts required for repair of disassembled truck and trailer units • Identify warrantable repairs and document on repair order • Maintain work area appearance and safety • Road test vehicles when necessary • Perform duties with little or no supervision and in a timely and efficient manner • Other projects and tasks as assigned by supervisor Qualifications: • 6 years practical experience (or an equivalent combination of related education and experience) • High School Diploma or equivalent required • Vocational/technical school preferred • Specialized training and experience in the repair/refinish of all series of truck and trailer required • Proficiency in the use of all tools of trade (including welding equipment, paint equipment, shop machines, and power tools) required • Valid driver’s license required • Basic computer skills required • The associate will be required to understand and comply with specific instructions, guidelines, rules, regulations, or other information established by Penske management • The associate must be able to perform all work adhering to DOT, OSHA, and all Penske safety and maintenance policies; including but not limited to the correct selection and use of appropriate tools, PPE, machine guarding, and established best safety practice.

• Regular, predictable, full attendance is an essential function of the job • As this position requires driving Penske and customer vehicles, it is regulated by the DOT and requires a current driver qualification file to be maintained as required by the role.

The driver qualification file includes: an annual motor vehicle records (MVR) check, a successfully completed DOT Physical, and Safety Performance History records request from prior employers in the last 3 years.

Additionally, CDL holders will have a DOT Drug Screening within 30 days of start and subject to a FMCSA Clearinghouse review.

• Willingness to travel as necessary, work the required schedule, work at the specific location required, complete Penske employment application, submit to a background investigation (to include past employment, education, and criminal history) and drug screening are required.

This position is regulated by the Department of Transportation or designated as safety sensitive by the company, and the ability to work in a constant state of alertness and in a safe manner is required.

This position also requires the ability to push/pull truck tires on a regular basis that exceed 100 pounds.
