Construction Project Engineer
Job Description
Overview
An established Data Center developer is seeking a Construction Project Engineer to support the delivery of mission-critical projects across Southern California.
This role will work closely with senior construction leadership and be based primarily on-site, supporting day-to-day coordination and execution of active developments.
Key Responsibilities
- Support delivery of complex construction projects from preconstruction through close-out
- Coordinate across general contractors, design consultants, commissioning teams, utilities, and internal stakeholders
- Review contractor reports, schedules, budgets, and change events to identify risks and drive resolution
- Develop a strong understanding of drawings, specifications, and contract documents to support effective project execution
- Assist with procurement processes, including bid review and scope alignment
- Support constructability reviews, logistics planning, and early works coordination
- Assist with permitting processes and Authority Having Jurisdiction (AHJ) coordination
- Track approvals and milestones impacting construction start and energization
- Support budgeting, cost tracking, and monthly reporting
- Review pay applications and change orders for accuracy and scope alignment
- Maintain project logs (RFIs, submittals, long-lead items, and key milestones)
- Coordinate with utility providers (power, water, telecom) and track utility-driven deliverables
- Identify and flag risks related to utilities, schedule, or scope
- Support design coordination and review of RFIs and submittals
- Gain exposure to mission-critical systems, including electrical, backup power, and cooling infrastructure
- Assist with punch list management, commissioning coordination, and close-out documentation
- Support handover documentation, including as-builts and O&M manuals
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Construction Management, Engineering, or related discipline
- 3–5 years of experience in construction, project engineering, or owner’s representation
- Experience on industrial, large commercial, or mission-critical projects preferred
- Strong understanding of construction documentation and project coordination processes
- Proficiency in Excel and construction management tools (e.g., Procore, Bluebeam)
- Exposure to data center or mission-critical environments is advantageous
- Familiarity with permitting and utility coordination (or willingness to learn)
- Experience reviewing RFIs, submittals, and pay applications
- Strong attention to detail with the ability to manage multiple priorities
- Clear and effective communicator with contractors and consultants
- Comfortable working in a fast-paced, schedule-driven environment
- Proactive, coachable, and motivated to grow within a project delivery environment
- Solid understanding of cost, schedule, and risk management principles
