Location: Chicago, IL (Onsite – Downtown near Millennium Park)
Schedule: Monday–Friday, 8:00 AM – 5:00 PM
Employment Type: Full-Time, Direct Hire
Compensation Range: $85,000 – $95,000 / year

About the Organization
A well-established Chicago-based commercial law firm is seeking an experienced Commercial Finance Legal Assistant to support a busy and sophisticated finance practice. The firm is known for its collaborative environment, strong reputation in commercial finance and business litigation, and modern office space located in the heart of downtown Chicago.
Due to increased deal activity within the practice, the team is looking to add additional administrative and transactional support.
Position Summary
The Commercial Finance Legal Assistant will provide high-level administrative and transactional support to a group of attorneys and partners within the Commercial Finance practice. This role will assist with the preparation and coordination of finance-related legal documents, track deal progress, and support attorneys with scheduling, billing, and client communication.
The position requires strong attention to detail, the ability to manage multiple priorities, and experience supporting complex commercial finance transactions.
Responsibilities
• Assist with commercial finance transactions including drafting and editing legal documents
• Compile signature pages and assist in preparing and organizing closing sets
• Track deal progress and follow up on outstanding items
• Coordinate the new matter intake process including conflicts checks and engagement documentation
• Prepare letters and correspondence for attorneys
• Manage calendars, schedule meetings, and coordinate conferences and travel
• Enter and edit attorney time and assist with billing processes and pro forma reviews
• Process expense reports and maintain documentation within the firm's document management system
• Communicate with clients, co-counsel, and internal departments regarding active matters
• Maintain deal tracking spreadsheets and support closing documentation processes
Required Qualifications
• Associate's or Bachelor's degree
• Minimum 3 years of experience as a Legal Assistant within Commercial Finance
• Experience supporting multiple attorneys and partners in a fast-paced legal environment
• Strong experience drafting and editing legal documents related to finance transactions
• Experience with new matter intake processes and conflicts procedures
• Strong Microsoft Office skills, particularly Microsoft Word and Excel
• Ability to quickly learn and utilize document management systems
• Strong organizational, communication, and time management skills
Preferred Qualifications
• Experience supporting 4–5 attorneys or partners simultaneously
• Prior experience working within a commercial law firm environment
• Experience coordinating complex deal closings and transaction documentation
Compensation & Benefits
The expected salary range for this role is $85,000 – $95,000 annually, depending on experience and qualifications.
