Staff Mechanical Engineer- Piping
Job Description
The Staff Mechanical Engineer will work with the project team to create world-class designs for new projects, alterations, and redevelopments on a variety of natural gas facilities, including compressor stations, meter and regulator stations, and renewable natural gas facilities. The Staff Mechanical Engineer will work with the project team throughout the design and construction process, adapting mechanical plans according to budget constraints, design factors, or client needs.
- Execution of mechanical engineering design and analysis for natural gas facilities and pipeline-related projects.
- Mechanical design of stations and facilities including piping systems and material specifications.
- Preparation of calculations, studies, and technical reports including pipe stress, pressure relief, and equipment sizing.
- Development of P&IDs, piping plans, isometrics, equipment layouts, and associated bill of materials.
- Selection and specification of mechanical equipment including compressors, regulators, valves, meters, and relief devices.
- Coordination with other disciplines (Pipeline, Civil/Structural, Electrical, Instrumentation & Controls, Environmental).
- Review of vendor submittals and technical bid evaluations.
- Support construction activities, including responses to RFIs, field visits, and as-built documentation.
- Assist in the preparation of proposals, scopes of work, cost estimates, and schedules.
- Ensure compliance with applicable codes and standards, including ASME, API, and CFR requirements.
- Participate in client meetings and coordinate with owners, contractors, and vendors.
- Support process improvement, standard development, and quality control initiatives.
- Support Business Development and Marketing initiatives.
- All other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering or related degree from an ABET-accredited program and 3 years of mechanical engineering experience required. Consulting preferred.
- Or Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical or related Engineering Technology from an ABET-accredited program, successful completion of the Fundamentals of Engineering (FE) exam, and 3 years of mechanical engineering experience required. Consulting preferred.
- Or Master's Degree in Mechanical Engineering and 2 years of mechanical engineering experience required. Consulting preferred.
- Working knowledge of applicable codes and standards, such as ASME B31.3, B31.4, B31.8, API 520/521, and 49 CFR Part 192, is preferred.
- Experience with mechanical design software and engineering tools.
- Strong knowledge of standard engineering techniques and procedures.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to work methodically and analytically in a quantitative problem-solving environment and demonstrated critical thinking skills.
- Proficient in standard engineering techniques and procedures.
- Strong computer skills (e.g., Microsoft Office Suite).
- Strong computer skills include AutoCAD, BIM (Revit), 3D Rendering Programs, hydraulic analysis, and HVAC analysis programs.
- Strong attention to detail, facilitation, team building, collaboration, organization, and problem-solving skills.
- Engineers in Training-EIT Certification preferred.
