We are seeking a highly experienced Director of Construction & Development (OPM) to lead the execution of our growing development pipeline. Over the next 24 months and beyond, we will be delivering multiple new restaurant builds, restaurant renovations, retail projects, and select mixed-use developments.

This role is responsible for managing the full lifecycle of construction projects from feasibility and budgeting through design, permitting, construction, and closeout.

This is not a desk-only project management position, the ideal candidate understands construction deeply, is comfortable on active job sites, and can confidently manage construction managers, architects, engineers, and trade partners in real time. This role sits at the intersection of Finance, Design, and Field Execution.

Key Responsibilities

Portfolio & Pipeline Leadership

Oversee a rolling pipeline of new builds and renovations at various stages of development. Maintain visibility across all active projects, ensuring alignment with company growth strategy, capital planning, and operational timelines.

Construction Manager & Consultant Oversight

Manage construction managers, general contractors, architects, engineers, and consultants. Lead contractor procurement, prequalification, bid leveling, and scope reviews. Hold partners accountable to schedule, budget, and quality standards.

Design Oversight & Owner Representation

Act as the owner’s representative during programming and design phases. Review drawings and specifications to ensure alignment with brand standards, operational requirements, constructability, and cost targets. Manage and coordinate architectural and engineering teams through design development and permitting.

Budget Development in Partnership with Finance

Work directly with the CFO and Finance team to develop accurate project budgets from early conceptual estimates through GMP. Provide cost modeling, value engineering options, and risk analysis. Track historical project data to inform future forecasting and capital planning.

Field Leadership & Jobsite Presence

Conduct regular site visits and actively monitor field progress. Identify issues early, solve problems in collaboration with project teams, and ensure construction is executed according to approved documents and specifications.

The ideal candidate understands sequencing, materials, and field coordination, and can spot issues before they become expensive problems.

Renovations & Operational Coordination

Lead renovation and refresh projects at existing locations with minimal disruption to ongoing operations. Coordinate phased work and off-hours construction when necessary.

FF&E, Turnover & Closeout

Oversee FF&E coordination and installation. Manage punch lists, closeout documentation, inspections, and certificates of occupancy to support timely openings and smooth operational turnover.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s Degree in Construction Management, Architecture, Engineering, or related field preferred
• 7+ years of progressive construction or owner’s project management experience
• Extensive retail and/or restaurant construction experience strongly preferred
• Demonstrated experience managing construction managers and design teams
• Proven experience building project budgets in collaboration with finance teams
• Strong understanding of construction drawings, permitting processes, and field operations
• Ability to manage multiple concurrent projects in different phases
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills
• Strong analytical and organizational capabilities

Role Description

This is a full-time on-site role for a Cafe Manager located in Santa Monica, CA. The Cafe Manager will oversee daily operations, ensuring smooth and efficient functioning of the café. This includes managing staff, creating schedules, supervising food and beverage services, ensuring excellent customer service, managing inventory, and maintaining a clean, welcoming environment. Additional duties involve staff training, maintaining health and safety standards, and driving sales growth through innovative strategies.

Qualifications

• Strong Customer Service and Communication skills, with the ability to lead a team effectively and address customer needs professionally
• Expertise in Food & Beverage and Food Service operations, including managing quality standards and ensuring an excellent dining experience
• Sales skills, focusing on meeting revenue targets and implementing strategies to increase customer loyalty and satisfaction
• Proven leadership and organizational skills, with experience in staff training and effective delegation
• Knowledge and application of health and safety standards in food service
• Previous experience in café or restaurant management is highly desirable

About Us:
Starboard Side Cafe is a growing, made-to-order brunch business that I personally opened in January 2024. We focus on fresh, healthy, locally sourced ingredients and serve our community at farmers markets, events, and festivals on and near Galveston Island. We currently operate a fully equipped commercial food trailer that allows us to expand our menu and serve more customers.  Most of our operations take place at our regular location on the West Beach of Galveston Island in Jamaica Beach, with additional service at markets and special events. Our long-term vision is to open a brick-and-mortar caf, and were looking for team members who share our passion and want to help us grow in that direction.

Position Overview:
Were seeking a Mobile Caf Crew Member who will take an active role in food preparation, kitchen and food safety, customer service, and brand promotion. The ideal candidate will help foster a warm, welcoming atmosphere that keeps customers returning while consistently upholding the quality, service, and values that we want Starboard Side Cafe to be known for.

Key Responsibilities:

• Maintain kitchen and food safety standards at all times
• Prep and serve fresh, locally sourced menu items
• Operate within our commercial food trailer during service
• Communicate effectively with team members and customers
• Take orders, process payments, and promote our brand/products
• Provide a welcoming, positive atmosphere for guests
• Assist with setup and breakdown, along with cleaning

Qualifications:

• Must be 18 years or older
• Prior food service or hospitality experience preferred, but not required were willing to train the right person

Hours & Pay:

• Starting pay: $10$12/hour plus tips, with opportunities for raises as we grow
• Part-time operations currently take place FridaysSundays, with more operational days expected as the business grows
