The Opportunity

You’ll handle all phases of litigation (intake through trial) and work closely with sophisticated clients, developing strategy, driving case progress, and building real courtroom-ready skill. The firm’s matters span insurance defense, employment, personal injury, government entity representation (cities/counties/police practices), bad faith, and related disputes (including neighbor disputes under insurance).

What You’ll Do

• Manage files from intake through trial: pleadings, discovery, motion practice, depositions, mediations/arbitrations, and trial preparation

• Communicate with clients and carriers; develop litigation strategy and case plans

• Take and defend depositions; prepare witnesses and experts

• Support a collaborative team culture, including mentoring junior attorneys where appropriate

• Maintain high ethical standards and strong professional judgment

Must-Haves

• Active California Bar license + JD from an ABA-accredited law school

• 4+ years of California civil litigation defense experience (sweet spot: 4–7 years; open to roughly 3–12+ for standout candidates)

• Strong, transferable litigation skills (this is not a transactional role)

• Willingness to work primarily in-person (at least initially)

Nice-to-Haves

• Experience in one or more of: insurance defense, employment, personal injury, government entities, bad faith

• Demonstrated trial experience (first/second chair on meaningful matters)

• Plaintiff-side, DA, or public defender background (with the desire to transition into civil defense)

• Leadership/mentoring capability and client-facing maturity
