The Medical Assistant is the first contact for patient care. Responsible for administrative tasks in addition to patient care. Performs Pharmacy calculations, such as days supply for insulins, etc. Refers physicians' calls and any medical questions to pharmacist. May operate a cash register. Decisions are typically focus on interpretation of area/department policy and methods for completing assignments. Works within defined parameters to identify work expectations and quality standards, but has some latitude over prioritization/timing, and works under minimal direction.
