Product Design Engineering Manager

Company & Role Overview

Located in Waco, TX, we are seeking a dynamic Product Design Engineering Manager to lead a high-performing, multidisciplinary engineering team. This role is instrumental in the design and production of our Electric Power Generation (EPG) packages and Spray King product lines.

The successful candidate will be a champion of technical excellence and a practitioner of Values-Based Leadership (VBL), ensuring that engineering deliverables are precise, manufacturable, and aligned with our commitment to \"Legendary Customer Service.\"

Key Responsibilities

Leadership & Team Development

  • Direct Supervision: Lead, mentor, and evaluate a team of mechanical, electrical, and design engineers, drafters, and supervisors.
  • Talent Management: Oversee hiring, performance management, and professional development planning to build a culture of high ownership and teamwork.
  • Operational Alignment: Model and promote company mission and core values daily, utilizing VBL tools to ensure organizational alignment.

Engineering & Design Excellence

  • Technical Integrity: Ensure all engineering documentation, CAD models, and Bills of Materials (BOMs) are accurate, timely, and optimized for production.
  • Standards & Compliance: Champion ISO 9001, ISO 15288, and Design for Manufacturing (DfM) practices to improve quality and minimize rework.
  • Change Management: Own the engineering change process, including ECOs, technical documentation, and deviations.
  • Innovation & Efficiency: Drive design standardization and reuse while identifying opportunities for engineering process improvements.

Cross-Functional Collaboration

  • Production Support: Provide responsive on-floor support to address real-time engineering issues and facilitate rapid decision-making.
  • Strategic Integration: Collaborate closely with Sales Engineering and Project Delivery to validate customer specifications and ensure engineering output meets project requirements throughout the \"quote-to-cash\" cycle.
  • Problem Solving: Lead root cause analysis (RCA) and corrective actions for internal and field-related issues, integrating lessons learned into future product iterations.

Qualifications & Skills

  • Education: Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related technical field is required.
  • Experience: * Minimum of five years of engineering experience in a manufacturing environment.
  • Minimum of three years of leadership experience managing multidisciplinary teams and budgetary responsibilities.
  • Technical Proficiency: * Advanced knowledge of SolidWorks, PDM systems, and ERP tools (e.g., Epicor).
  • Demonstrated experience in designing production-ready solutions for custom-engineered equipment.
  • Familiarity with Caterpillar equipment as it relates to Spray King systems is highly preferred.
  • Regulatory Knowledge: Solid understanding of ISO 9001 and systems engineering principles (ISO 15288).
