Southern Development & Construction, Inc was established in 1994 and is a growing private contractor concentrating on complete site development services (underground utility, earthwork, and paving) in the Central Florida area for subdivisions, apartments, commercial and public projects. We are looking for an experienced Civil Construction Project Manager to direct our Construction Projects.
Position Summary
The Civil Construction Project Manager is responsible for planning, coordinating, and overseeing all phases of heavy civil/site construction projects. This role ensures projects are delivered safely, on schedule, within budget, and in accordance with contract requirements and company standards.
Key Responsibilities
Project Management
- Manage multiple civil construction projects simultaneously from award through completion
- Develop and maintain project schedules, budgets, and cost forecasts
- Coordinate with superintendents, subcontractors, suppliers, and internal teams
- Lead project meetings and maintain clear communication with stakeholders
Financial Oversight
- Prepare and manage project budgets, cost tracking, and reporting
- Review and approve subcontractor invoices, change orders, and pay applications
- Identify risks and opportunities to protect project profitability
Contract Administration
- Review plans, specifications, and contracts for scope, risk, and compliance
- Manage RFIs, submittals, change orders, and documentation
- Ensure adherence to client, regulatory, and safety requirements
Field & Team Coordination
- Work closely with field staff to support productivity and safety
- Provide leadership and direction to project engineers and support staff
- Maintain strong relationships with clients, inspectors, and subcontractors
Safety & Quality
- Promote a culture of safety and accountability on all projects
- Ensure work meets quality standards and project specifications
Qualifications
Required
- Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering, Construction Management, or related field (or equivalent experience)
- 5+ years of experience managing civil/site construction projects
- Strong knowledge of earthwork, utilities, roadway, and site development practices
- Experience with project scheduling and cost control
- Ability to read and interpret construction drawings and specifications
- Excellent leadership, communication, and organizational skills
Preferred
- Experience with public sector/municipal projects
- Knowledge of local and state regulations (e.g., DOT, environmental, utility standards)
- Proficiency in construction software (e.g., Procore, Bluebeam, HCSS, Primavera, MS Project)
