Overview
The Clinical Staff Pharmacist provides direct patient care related to medication prescribing, administration, and monitoring for patients of Carle Foundation Hospital. This individual also participates in decentralized care and focused drug studies, and will provide clinical expertise to assist the other staff pharmacists in completion of their duties.

Responsibilities
Assist in focused studies and drug usage evaluations as assigned. Assist in the development of clinical guidelines and order sets as related to appropriate drug therapy. Participate in decentralized care interacting with physician groups such as family practice, hospitalists, and critical care. Provide direct patient care by intervening as appropriate to improve prescribing, administration, and monitoring practices in the facility as related to medications. Represent the pharmacy on committees or work groups as assigned. Interpret physician medication orders and send the appropriate medication in a timely and accurate manner. Screen medication orders for potential interactions with other medications, diet orders, disease state, or stated allergies. Supervise the technicians in the preparation and dispensing of medications and parenterals. Make dose recommendations based on age, weight and clearance function. Assist in the training and orientation of all new employees as assigned. Provide accurate and complete accounting of all controlled substances. Provide Medication Therapy Management Services as defined in the Illinois Pharmacy Practice Act. Performs utilization management reviews. Serves as drug information resource for other departments. Conduct medication reconciliation, perform clinical interventions, uncover adverse drug reactions, and refer patients to pertinent clinics (i.e. anticoagulation).

Position Highlights: NT4 Ortho-Urology Surgical Unit
- Number of beds on unit: 41
- Patient population (age, diagnosis, specifics about unit): NT4 is 41- bed unit specializing in the care of acute ortho and urology surgical patients. We are DNV certified for our hip and knee replacement surgeries. Surgical patients on this unit includes limb trauma patients, as well low acuity medical patients. With Carle being a level trauma center most regional trauma patients will be admitted to this unit.

- Department culture and resources: North Tower 4 is a fast paced throughput unit that highly collaborates with physical and occupational therapists. The average length of stay for most patients is a max of three days, so staff can experience the entire recovery process of the patient. Unit relies on strong communication skills between all team members, especially with the Heart and Vascular Institute procedural area. Collects data on assigned patients as directed by the RN and the unit based performance standards.
Performs accurate documentation duties on the nursing unit and in patient records as directed by unit based performance standards and guidelines.
Transcribes physician orders accurately and in a timely manner. Schedules appointments, consults, diagnostic tests and examinations for patients on nursing unit. Initiates, compiles and maintains patient charts.

The Child Life Specialist works to meet the psychosocial needs of patients and families by providing education, preparation, procedural support, and therapeutic play to reduce stress and enable pediatric patients to cope more effectively with their medical experiences. Provides safe, developmentally appropriate play and peer interactions to patients to aid in the normalization of the hospital environment
Supports families through the initial stages of grief and bereavement in regards to the death of a parent, sibling, or the child's own impeding death
Documents patient information pertaining to Child Life services provided
Assists with pediatric unit programs and events to provide activities and entertainment to patients and families through community engagement
Develops educational resources for staff, patients, and the community.
Participates in training and mentoring students pursuing clinical preparation within the Child Life department.
Oversees the inventory of medical and developmental play items throughout the hospital.
Functions as a mandated reporter, reporting suspicions of child abuse and/or neglect to the Department of Children and Family Services
Perform other duties as assigned.

Compensation and Benefits
The compensation range for this position is $22.82per hour - $38.11per hour. This represents a good faith minimum and maximum range for the role at the time of posting by Carle Health. The actual compensation offered a candidate will be dependent on a variety of factors including, but not limited to, the candidate’s experience, qualifications, location, training, licenses, shifts worked and compensation model. The Child Life Specialist works to meet the psychosocial needs of patients and families by providing education, preparation, procedural support, and therapeutic play to reduce stress and enable pediatric patients to cope more effectively with their medical experiences. The Child Life Specialist will act as a resource for nursing staff by aiding in their understanding of the psychosocial effects of hospitalization of children and adolescents according to both their chronological age as well as their developmental level. The Child Life Specialist will be responsible for assisting families through the initial stages of the grieving process.
Candidates must have the completed 10 required courses as outlined by Association of Child Life Professionals along with a completed 600-hour Child Life Specialist internship completed & listed on the submitted resume/application to be considered.
