About the Role

The Water Quality Association (WQA) is hiring a Materials Technical Reviewer to support the Gold Seal Product Certification Program. This research-focused position emphasizes precise technical analysis, cross‑functional collaboration, and clear documentation. You’ll evaluate product information, identify test requirements, interpret results, and verify alignment with applicable standards and accreditation criteria.

Key Responsibilities

Technical Evaluation & Support

  • Perform material safety and lead content evaluations for initial certifications, recertifications, and project revisions within the Gold Seal Product Certification Program.
  • Review and interpret product data; identify required testing; and perform normalization work related to material extraction testing in accordance with Drinking Water Additives (DWA) standards.
  • Provide technical guidance to the Product Certification team to enhance customer experience and keep projects on track.
  • Analyze technical nonconformances, assess impact, and recommend effective corrective actions.
  • Partner with WQA Laboratory staff and internal stakeholders on product failures, testing challenges, and standards interpretations.


Training & Documentation

  • Deliver targeted technical training for internal and external audiences on standards, processes, and evaluation methods.
  • Create, maintain, and improve technical documents, forms, and tools that support accurate records and database development.


Operational & Customer Support

  • Help teams meet timelines, budgets, and quality expectations across active certification projects.
  • Assist with assigned project tasks to address workload fluctuations and program priorities.
  • Support clear, timely communication with customers during periods of higher demand or technical inquiry.


Process Improvement

  • Collaborate to streamline product review and normalization workflows.
  • Identify opportunities to strengthen efficiency, consistency, and clarity in technical review practices.


What You’ll Bring

  • Bachelor’s degree in a scientific discipline such as chemistry, materials science, biology, biochemistry, mechanical engineering, environmental science, or a related field.
  • Foundational understanding of inorganic and organic chemistry, including basic chemical structures, reactions, and material composition.
  • Ability to review and interpret technical documents such as test reports, study summaries, and supplier data for completeness, consistency, and clarity.
  • Strong attention to detail and a commitment to following established procedures while checking work for accuracy.
  • Effective time‑management and organizational skills, with the ability to balance multiple reviews and meet deadlines.
  • Clear written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to document findings, relay technical information, and ask clarifying questions when needed.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and familiarity with common document‑handling tools such as PDF/Adobe.
