We offer adults and adolescents both outpatient and inpatient care at specialized facilities located in southwest Virginia. Carilion Clinic Psychiatric facilities include 61 adult beds (across two facilities) and 16 adolescent beds and multiple ambulatory sites.

Our department has implemented state-of-the-art treatment for opioid use disorder including our ED Bridge program and our inpatient Pathways program for patients with substance use disorders and infectious complications such as endocarditis and sepsis. Our department continues to evolve evidence-based treatment for multiple substance use disorders. We incorporate peer recovery specialists and a range of technology and innovative techniques in collaboration with addiction researchers at Virginia Tech and the Fralin Biomedical Research Institute. Our faculty includes psychiatrists who are board-certified in both addiction psychiatry and addiction medicine certified physicians from across Carilion, including Emergency Medicine and Ob/Gyn. We have an established Fellowship in Addiction Medicine that is part of this organizational structure. We work closely with research collaborators at the Fralin Biomedical Research Institute and the Virginia Tech Carilion School of Medicine in growing of many initiatives. We are also partnered with the Virginia Department of Health, Virginia Department of Behavioral Health and Developmental Services, and many community agencies to expand and evaluate care delivery models.

The Department of Surgery at Carilion Clinic – Virginia Tech Carilion School of Medicine (CC-VTCSOM) in Roanoke, Virginia is currently recruiting a Board Certified Vascular Surgeon to lead the Section of Vascular Surgery. Offering an exceptional opportunity, we are searching for a Chief of the Section and a Director of the Aortic Center to lead our growing team of six surgeons and seven advanced practice providers in a clinic-based academic program with remarkable prospects in teaching, research, and clinical surgery. The ideal candidate would possess both complex endovascular and open surgical skills, will have an excellent track record in the management of advanced aortic pathology, and will have a collaborative approach to patient care.

The clinical practice is located at Carilion Roanoke Memorial Hospital, Carilion Clinic’s flagship facility with a dedicated Cardiovascular Institute (CVI) and will include opportunities to participate in all aspects of direct patient care including reading noninvasive vascular labs, outpatient visits, procedures and inpatient consultations. In July 2025, the Crystal Spring Tower, new home of the Carilion CVI opened. Virginia Tech Carilion School of Medicine

The Virginia Tech Carilion School of Medicine (VTCSOM) is a unique partnership between a public research university (Virginia Tech) and a private health care organization (Carilion Clinic) and is a fully LCME accredited, four-year allopathic medical school. The school is among the first of the new generation of medical schools in the United States. While VTCSOM opened as a private school in 2010, the school became part of Virginia Tech as its ninth college on July 1, 2018. The school’s charter class entered in August 2010, and each class averaged 42 students, with recent incremental increases to 49, 51, and 56 students with plans to increase the class size to 96 in a new building in 2028-29. The innovative curriculum is divided into four domains: basic science, clinical science, research, and interprofessionalism. Learning revolves around real patient cases studied by small groups of students under the guidance of facilitators. The school’s students have earned outstanding USMLE Step 1 and Step 2 scores. Carilion Clinic (CC), Virginia Tech Carilion School of Medicine (VTCSOM), and the Department of Medicine, Section of Dermatology & Mohs Surgery in Roanoke, Virginia are searching for a Chief of the Section to lead an established team of 14 physicians and Advance Practice Providers in an academic, multisite practice. The Carilion Clinic – Virginia Tech Carilion Dermatology Residency welcomes 2 residents each year, has a 100% board pass rate since its inception, and boasts a uniquely robust dermatopathology curriculum. Teaching, research, and mentorship opportunities abound. Faculty appointments are through the Virginia Tech Carilion School of Medicine, a college of Virginia Tech. Job Title: Director of Mechanical Engineering

Location: Roanoke, VA (On-site, with regular travel to multiple U.S. plants)

About the Role

Virginia Transformer Corporation is seeking a hands-on Director of Mechanical Engineering to lead the mechanical design and development function across six manufacturing plants. The ideal candidate will bring deep technical expertise in mechanical systems, metallurgy, and polymers, along with strong leadership experience in custom electromechanical equipment design.

This role will be responsible for standardizing design practices, improving manufacturability, and ensuring all mechanical designs meet rigorous standards of quality, performance, and safety. You will collaborate closely with plant-level engineering teams, corporate R&D, sourcing, and vendor quality to drive innovation, consistency, and cost optimization across the organization.

Key Responsibilities

Leadership & Strategy

• Lead, mentor, and develop a team of mechanical design engineers across multiple sites, fostering a culture of excellence, accountability, and continuous improvement.
• Ensure consistent application of the mechanical design manual and design standards across all six plants.
• Partner with corporate R&D to advance new mechanical design initiatives and introduce innovative materials, features, and product enhancements.
• Define and track key performance indicators (KPIs) for the design teams, driving measurable improvement in design quality, efficiency, and throughput.

Design & Engineering Execution

• Oversee the design and development of mechanical assemblies, ensuring manufacturability, reliability, and cost-effectiveness.
• Provide direct, hands-on technical support when needed — including concept development, modeling, and problem-solving for complex design challenges.
• Apply deep understanding of metallurgy, polymers, and material properties to improve product performance, longevity, and thermal characteristics.
• Establish, update, and enforce design automation and process assurance systems to maintain consistency and reduce variability in mechanical design outputs.
• Review and approve detailed mechanical drawings, design calculations, and documentation for accuracy and compliance with internal and industry standards.

Cross-Functional Collaboration

• Partner with Sourcing and Vendor Quality Assurance to qualify suppliers and evaluate materials or components for new or alternative sourcing.
• Participate in design reviews, non-conformance investigations (NCRs), and root cause/corrective action efforts to resolve mechanical and manufacturing issues.
• Work closely with plant management and production teams to ensure mechanical designs support operational goals and manufacturability.
• Collaborate with Safety and Compliance functions to ensure adherence to industry, regulatory, and environmental standards.

Qualifications

• Bachelors degree in mechanical engineering, Master’s degree in mechanical engineering preferred. PE is a plus.
• Minimum 15-20 years of experience in thermo-mechanical design of custom electromechanical equipment, with at least 5 years in a senior management or multi-site leadership role.
• Proven background in metallurgy, polymers, material science, or industrial product design from manufacturing, energy, aerospace, rail, or related industries.
• Strong knowledge of FEA/FEM analytical tools, CAD systems, and 3D design platforms (SolidWorks, Creo, or equivalent).
• Demonstrated success leading engineering teams in a plant, multi plant or global manufacturing environment.

• Expert-level proficiency in CAD design practices, finite element modeling, and mechanical systems analysis.
• Deep technical understanding of materials, thermal performance, stress analysis, and mechanical reliability.
• Hands-on problem solver with a proactive, floor-level approach to engineering challenges.
• Exceptional communication and collaboration skills, able to influence across engineering, operations, and executive leadership.
• Strong organizational ability to lead large engineering teams (100+ engineers) across multiple sites.
• Strategic mindset with operational discipline — balancing innovation with manufacturability and cost control.
