JOB SUMMARY

The Area Chemical Sales Manager contacts prospective customers to sell water treatment services for water in boilers, cooling towers, and waste water systems. Schedules appointments to: explain products and services available, inspect customer water system equipment, and prepare service estimates. Obtain water samples for field analysis, or to send to home office for further analysis when needed. Creates analysis write-ups, and contacts customers to recommend treatment to control levels of substances in water. Explains merits of treatment programs to educate customer on benefits of purchasing them. Attempts to resolve problems encountered with customer's water-treatment process. Sells water-treatment chemicals to customer. Performs follow-up test on water in customer water system, utilizing test kit, knowledge of chemical treatment, and reference manual. Explains test results to customers. Observes changes in customers’ water analyses and recommends amount, and type, of chemical additives necessary for water treatment.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS

• Promotes and sells water chemical products to potential customers.
• Explains water treatment package benefits to customer and sells chemicals to treat and resolve water process problems.
• Estimates and advises customer of service costs to correct water-treatment process problems.
• Monitor customer preferences to determine focus of sales efforts.
• Answer customers' questions about products, prices, availability, product uses, and credit terms.
• Emphasize product features based on analyses of customers' needs, and on technical knowledge of product capabilities and limitations.
• Resolve customer complaints regarding sales and service.
• Maintain customer records, using automated systems.
• Monitor customer preferences and utilization to determine focus of sales efforts and appropriate stock levels.
• Inspects, tests, and observes chemical changes in water system equipment, utilizing test kit, reference manual, and knowledge of chemical treatment.
• Prepare sales contracts for orders obtained, and submit orders for processing.
• Identify prospective customers by using business directories, following leads from existing clients, participating in organizations and clubs, and attending trade shows and conferences.
• Completes special projects upon requests, and other duties may be assigned.

POSITION REQUIREMENTS:

Required: Must possess strong customer service focus, social and interpersonal skills, active listening skills, and effective communication skills. Must be able to excel in a fast paced environment and meet time-sensitive deadlines.

Preferred: Beneficial to have strong critical thinking, persuasion, and comprehension skills. Mechanical aptitude highly desirable. Knowledge of the composition, structure, and properties of substances and of the chemical processes and transformations that they undergo. This includes uses of chemicals and their interactions, danger signs, production techniques, and disposal methods.

EDUCATION:

Preferred: Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent in experience and education

EXPERIENCE:

Required: 2-3 years of experience in water treatment required

Preferred: 3-5 years of experience preferred, working knowledge of Microsoft Outlook, Word, and Excel highly preferred.

PAY AND BENEFITS:

Join the JAMA team as an Intern. This is a hybrid position reporting into our Chicago, IL office, requiring 1 day a week in the office.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Preference is for an individual who is underrepresented in the medical writing/editing community (see American Medical Writers Association 2022 DEI survey).
• This person would train with senior manuscript editors, working with the AMA Manual of Style, reading sections and completing quizzes on style topics.
• They would observe and participate in the daily activities of JNO and specialty journal manuscript editors to get a sense of what the job is like.
• They would meet with Graphics, Production, Proofreading, and other teams with whom manuscript editors collaborate.
• Under the supervision of the Managing Editor and Assistant Deputy Managing Editor, they would edit commentaries with the eventual goal of editing a Research Letter.

1. The intern should be a 3rd or 4th year student at 4-year college, majoring in English, journalism, or life sciences who is interested in pursuing a career in medical editing.

We have an opportunity at our corporate offices in Chicago for a Digital Content Specialist II on our Digital Marketing team. This is a hybrid position reporting into our Chicago, IL office, requiring 3 days a week in the office.

As a Digital Content Specialist II, you will support UX copywriting and content
across AMA's digital platforms, with a primary focus on FREIDA, a platform that
helps medical students search for and evaluate residency programs. The role contributes
to the creation of specialty-specific informational content, user-facing copy,
and messaging that helps guide medical students, residents, and physicians
through critical career decisions. Working under established UX and content
standards, this role applies UX writing best practices to improve clarity,
engagement, and usability. The position works closely with product, UX, and
marketing teams to ensure content is consistent, effective, and aligned with
the overall member experience.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

Writing and Content Development

• Write comprehensive Q&A content for individual medical specialties within the FREIDA Specialty Guide
• Develop and maintain informational content across FREIDA resources, including the Residency Guide and student-facing guidance materials
• Develop copy for the Program Director Portal, including guidance, instructions, and resource content
• Create push notifications, alert banners, and promotional messaging to support engagement and highlight key deadlines and seasonal activities
• Collaborate with medical education stakeholders to ensure content accuracy and clinical appropriateness

FREIDA Content

• Create clear, concise, and user-centered copy for FREIDA and AMA digital properties that support the FREIDA experience, including AMAone and related join/renew and sign-in flows
• Write and optimize UX copy for onboarding sequences, navigation, error states, and transactional touchpoints
• Work on landing page and member-facing content that supports usability and conversion goals
• Collaborate with UX designers to integrate copy early in the design process and support effective content-design collaboration
• Conduct content audits and contribute recommendations to improve clarity and usability

User Insight and Industry Awareness

• Develop an understanding of medical student, resident, and physician behaviors to inform content strategy and UX copy decisions
• Apply user insight and evolving UX and healthcare education trends to support product, design, and marketing initiatives
• Refine content based on user feedback, observed behavior, and performance data

REQUIREMENTS:

1. Bachelor's degree in English, Communications, Journalism, Marketing, or a related field required
2. Ability to translate complex or regulated information into clear, user-centered language
3. Experience collaborating with product, design, and marketing teams through content contributions
4. Experience supporting content standards, including voice, tone, and style guidelines
5. Comfort presenting recommendations and incorporating stakeholder feedback

The Role

As an Applied AI Engineer, you will play a key role in integrating AI across internal systems and a customer facing SaaS platform. You will work hands on with large language models (LLMs) and modern AI tooling to automate processes, build internal tools, and deliver intelligent product features.

This is a production focused role operating at the intersection of engineering, product, and business operations, with close collaboration across teams in a hybrid/onsite environment. (3-days per week onsite in Greater Kansas City Metro Area, 2-days remote work.)

Key Responsibilities

• Design and build scalable AI powered services and tools to streamline internal workflows across multiple teams (e.g., operations, content, sales, support).
• Develop and deliver intelligent features within a proprietary SaaS platform.
• Integrate, manage, and optimize multiple LLMs and AI APIs (e.g., OpenAI style, Anthropic style, or comparable providers).
• Provide technical leadership and mentorship to other engineers, including guidance on architecture, best practices, and performance.
• Build and maintain backend systems and APIs that support AI functionality across products and services.
• Design infrastructure for model serving, orchestration, monitoring, and lifecycle management.
• Implement fallback strategies, model routing, and cost performance optimization.
• Partner cross functionally with engineering, product, and business stakeholders to identify high impact AI opportunities.
• Apply best practices related to data privacy, security, compliance, and responsible AI use.
• Stay current with advancements in AI, LLMs, and MLOps, introducing new approaches where appropriate.

Qualifications

• 6+ years of engineering experience with multiple years of experience in a production environment deploying AI/ML applications or infrastructure.
• Proven experience applying LLMs or similar AI models to real business or product challenges.
• Strong backend engineering skills (Python and/or TypeScript preferred).
• Experience with AI/ML orchestration and deployment tools (e.g., LangGraph style frameworks, Airflow like systems, Kubeflow, Ray, or workflow automation tools).
• Hands on experience with cloud platforms (AWS, GCP, or Azure) and containerization (Docker, Kubernetes).
• Front end development experience in areas like React, Node.js, Web Development, front end web product design
• Solid understanding of MLOps practices, including deployment, monitoring, logging, and evaluation.
• Knowledge of data privacy, security, and ethical AI considerations.
• Experience supporting SaaS platforms or technology driven products is a plus.
• Strong communication skills and the ability to collaborate across technical and non-technical teams.
• Passion for applying AI in practical, high impact ways.
