Job Summary and Qualifications

Under the general direction of the Clinical Manager/Director, coordinates and provides preoperative testing and education. Responsible for gathering health histories, appropriate orders, results and medication lists. Nursing care is provided in accordance with hospital policies and procedures, applicable state Nursing Practice Acts, ANA Standards of Practice, the generic and unit structure standards and/or ASPAN Standards of care if appropriate.

Position Details: 

• Self/preferential scheduling posted four weeks in advance for you to have predictability in your schedule 
• 4–10 hour shifts

• Continuous investment in equipment including surgical instruments, devices and patient positioning for you to do your best work with patient safety and workflow efficiency in the Operating Room 
• Rounding with unit leaders, including charge nurses, to ensure your voice is heard on suggestions for patient care and surgical workflow improvement 
• On-call is required during select non-business hours 

What you will do in this role: 

• Evaluate patients prior to surgery 
• Provide patient and family education surrounding the procedure and peri-operative process
• Assume responsibility for patient preparation, including intravenous therapy, preoperative medications, and surgical site verification 
• Participate in surgical site verification, including briefing, time out, debriefing, and universal protocols, according to hospital policy 
• Recognize and respond to patient emergencies 
• Deliver high-quality, patient-centered care while managing evidence-based practices and continuous improvement initiatives 
• Be an integral member of a dynamic interdisciplinary team – consisting of the provider(s), surgeons, surgical technologists and more 
• Consistently apply the nursing process, critical thinking skills, scientific judgment, technical skills and leadership to independently deliver safe nursing care to patients
• Assess patient condition, monitor throughout your shift, and document changes in patient condition along with the care provided thoroughly 
• Educate patients and families/caregivers about the patient’s medical condition, treatment and follow-up measures

About this unit:

Cardiac Telemetry nurses assess acute changes in patients. They monitor and analyze the heart rhythm of patients, interpret ECGs, note arrhythmias, and intervene in emergency situations. They have high-level critical thinking skills, vast clinical knowledge, and are able to stay calm under pressure. Our Cardiac Telemetry unit is unique in that our nurses take care of patients recovering from open heart surgeries, heart catheterization with stent placement, ablations, pace maker/AICD placement, cardiovascular surgeries and we are a comprehensive stoke/stemi facility.

 Who are we

• Two separate 29-bed units, specializing in the care of cardiac patients

Types of patients we care for

• Acute and chronic heart failure
• Electrophysiology (pacemaker, ablation)
• Structural heart (mitral clip, TAVR, TMVR, watchmen, valve angioplasty)
• Post operative day one open heart surgery patients
• Post cardiac catheterization

Working in the cardiac progressive care units is a great way to build your critical thinking and skills. Nurses from our departments grow into areas such as ICU, cardiac cath lab, EP lab, or leadership. We work collaboratively with other departments in the facility to ease any transition you are interested in making. Requirements:

• Graduation from an accredited School of Nursing
• Current state of Missouri RN licensure required.
• Excellent oral/written communication, interpersonal, organizational and leadership skills required.
• BLS certification required at hire and maintained.
• ACLS required within 6 months.
• Previous clinical experience preferred.
• Basic computer skills

• Under the general direction of the Director, coordinates and provides patient care and assumes individual responsibility and accountability for the provision of nursing care. Nursing care is provided in accordance with hospital policies and procedures, applicable state Nursing Practice Acts, ANA Standards of Practice, and the generic and unit structure standards. Pediatric patients between birth through 17 years of age.
• Schedule: Full-time Nights (7p-7a) plus rotating weekends.
• Unit: close-knit, collaborative environment; skill growth opportunities leading into NICU; supportive leadership.

What Qualifications You Will Need: 

• Graduate of school of nursing required. BSN required. 
• Currently licensed as a registered professional nurse in the state(s) of practice and/or has an active compact license, in accordance with law and regulation. 
• BLS (American Heart Association) on hire PALS, ACLS, and ENPC certifications within 6 months of hire TNCC certification within 12 months of hire 
• 1 year (minimum) experience required. Previous clinical experience in area of specialty preferred.
